At this point we should just create an AI hologram of Bear Bryant or something and name it head coach. Maybe a hybrid with 4-5 all timers coalesced into one. The fans can name it and we will bow down to its supremacy.
Can't be worse than what we've had lately, no?

I laughed. The school should set up a sperm donor program for students with all proceeds going to the NIL budget.
We need to be more creative!
The BOV is supposedly ponying up an extra 50 million one time for athletics.

You say that, but Napier hasn't been able to recruit "well" at freaking Florida, how do you think he'd recruit here? And wasn't he getting sued because he promised some kid NIL money through a collective and the collective welched?
No thanks. And I seriously doubt Napier would have done any better than Pry.
Edit: changed 'we' to 'well' in first sentence. Effing autocorrect.

Baffling for sure. With Drone's second half performance, taking sacks, not throwing the ball away, etc. then Pop comes in and runs right into the lone defender, it honestly looked like they were throwing the game on purpose

Keller was trying to catch fireflies or something...

Well, if you'd like to believe some of the people on this Board, you need to have a man to man conversation with your son and tell him to stop being such a goddamn whiner.
We need some NIL to buy some LBs ASAP so he needs to buck the hell up and pay some more fees. Get a job, sell some plasma...stop with the excuses and make it work.
We need to win college football games!!! If he gets an ulcer from the stress or develops a sleep disorder so be it.
Obviously this is tongue-in-cheek. But this is exactly the example I am talking about. Your son deserves to get the education he is shouldering the cost of on his own and not be in debt til he is 50 so that VT can pay athletes in a vain attempt to be competitive in Athletics.
Best of luck to him.
Estimates are that we would need to up the commitment from the planned $144M to around $200M, which means that about $56M that was not previously earmarked for athletics would need to be transferred from other programs.
This is misleading... We need $56M more, but the university can't - under state law - just transfer this money from main campus (as I understand it at least).
Many of the proposals shared were focused on new revenue streams (driving up donations, moving to a new conference, increasing student fees, etc)
Are we chasing an ever-increasing bar to competitiveness?
Yes
Do we think that this additional funding will put us back to levels we enjoyed under Beamer?
Not unless we get into a conference that has competitive pay (SEC/B10) - a big piece of the argument for better funding athletics is that it's now or never, so we should shoot our shot.
And most importantly, is it worth the opportunity cost lost from funding other education programs?
Is major college athletics such a core part of the university that VT should sacrifice part of its academic pursuits in order to fund it? 10 years ago, 20 years ago, I would have been 100% behind it, but with the recent changes to major college football, I'm no longer so sure.
Virginia Tech pulled in $100m in new gifts in 2015/2016, and that number has almost 2.5x'd to $242m in new gifts in 2024/2025.
In that same time period, Athletics gifts have grown from $16m to almost $32m (2x). Total athletics revenue is up from $80m to $140m (a 75% increase). Athletics gifts just have not grown at the same rate as the rest of the university.
So, yes, money is fungible, but new money isn't going to Athletics at the same rate as other parts of the university. So, I think the question is, are you okay with college athletics being less of a core part of the university than it was a decade ago? Because that's what's happening over the last decade.

It's a really tough problem: we don't have enough megadonors to be able to piss any of the ones we have off.
The notion that Clemson has always been this fundraising juggernaut is just not true. VT out-raised Clemson every year we have data for until FY 2013 (July 2012-June 2013). Clemson didn't separate themselves until 2015.

Source for data is the Knight Commission.
Clemson was there before and just made a mess of themselves for a couple decades running until the Dabo hire hit.
If Clemson can make a mess of themselves for a couple decades (I'd argue 3-4) then we shouldn't be worried about VT.
My son is a junior ME student now. He cringed when I mentioned the higher fees of course as he is paying for school and we pay for housing and food. He pays for his own season tickets which were raised this year and some $11 beers in the stadium, after pre gaming of course. At some point, these students will be future donors hopefully, but if forced to pay a bunch more on their loans, will they give in the future? I think VT misses the boat tremendously in the time it takes to get food or drinks during the game. How much more money would they take in if you didn't miss half a quarter just going for a refill? Just wondering out loud...
Meh give me a 5 of the best OL money can buy
