I'm hearing rumors that we may not actually hire a DC at all and just let the guys wing it out there for one year with Bud Foster just giving them the death stare from the booth to see if we actually improve over whatever the fuck it was that Marve was trying to do.
I definitely was not wealthy. I worked a second job in fact. But it got me a lot of early experience. A place that otherwise says they don't have a position, will still take someone that offers to come every day and learn. Gotta outwork everyone else and usually I did.

Basically, the coaching hires are like being in line at a club. The VIPs cut the line. VT is not a VIP.
NC managed to make a hire in less than 3 weeks, and didn't have to 'wait in line'.

Yea, it's seen as something that only wealthy individuals can take advantage of. Not only that, but unpaid labor is generally frowned upon.

He could just as easily met the new hire for hype videos, or the new Associate Director of Ensuring Players Drink Their Protein Shakes.
To add to this, Oklahoma fired their DC around 1/4 and Notre Dame's DC just went to the Bengals. So that is an "SEC" blue-blood and ND in the list with PSU.
Basically, the coaching hires are like being in line at a club. The VIPs cut the line. VT is not a VIP. Everytime a VIP shows up (their DC job becomes available), we have to wait longer. VT may not be directly competing with blue-bloods and upper tier P2 teams for DCs, but their moves cause dominoes to fall whose effects cascade down to VT. I firmly believe that Clemson poaching PSU's DC basically reset our timeline. We could still realistically get someone like Dex or someone else who could turn out to be a good to great hire, but we have to wait for all of the dominoes above us to fall in place. It sucks, but it is what it is. It is just the result of where we currently stand in the hierarchy of CFB.

He mentioned meeting the new staff additions, so they may already be on campus just not announced for whatever reason.
Going off of his post, we can assume PJ and DJ are still on staff. Maybe some of the others aren't and what we're doing is trying to fill out the whole defensive staff before an announcement.
I think most unpaid internships have gone the way of the dodo bird (at least in architecture, I assume this to be true in ID as well)
This is why I get upset at basketball. Clemson is the better team. The refs shouldn't need to help them blatantly, but they did anyway.
A bit of both. Expect 75% travel. Busy season is August through January, expect 100 hour weeks. But only 60 hours/week the rest of the year.

Why make the video, how does this help us win?
Fan engagement - you give people a look behind the curtain, they become more emotionally invested in not only the team but as players as individual people. Each little video builds a little more of a connection.
Teams that are winning games don't need to do this for fans to buy-in. However, given the past few seasons, we're on the fast track to fan apathy. When the fans are apathetic, less people don't come to games and those who do aren't enthusiastic (e.g. UVa). Social media helps to temporarily stave that off - yes it's a band-aid, but a band-aid is better than nothing at all.
Pound for pound, we have one the best fanbases in college football. The program cannot take that for granted.
We want to keeps fans engaged to maintain our home field advantage. Players want to play somewhere where people care about the football team, both in the real and digital world.
