We can turn dcwilson's outlook positive (ok, maybe that's a stretch).
dcwillson, I hope there is at least a small smile on your face based on the above.
Sometimes, we get sooo wrapped up in opinions, that folks can get a bit crazy on this site. This comment gives me hope that at the end of it all, we can be friends despite our differences.
I hear land mines are very effective but not very efficient whereas snipers are the reverse. perfect pairing tbh
With our inconsistency, I would not be totally shocked if we were the team that gave Miami their only ACC win.
Thing is, I'm not convinced we are actually that poor. Are we OSU? Absolutely not. But we have the budget to go toe to toe with most of the ACC. With fucking Duke at the very least.
We just don't open the checkbook, because Whit won't open the checkbook. We are convinced at an institutional level that we can somehow pay less than everyone else and still make home run hires. We think we can home-grow mediocre personnel into winners, because Frank was homegrown.
That's it. That's what it is. Utter refusal to modernize. Utter refusal to move forward. Utter refusal to succeed.
I don't know. I was at a party at a friend's in Foxridge. Met him and had enough liquid courage that it seemed like a good idea at the time. Arm is intact. Pride? Also still intact. C'mon, it was Jake Grove. Not ashamed of that L.
My "No!" came in the form of lacking any athletic ability whatsoever...coupled with delayed puberty. I was 4'10" my sophomore year of high school.
Many new DC's are hired every year. We aren't a "victim" this year. We aren't special. We think we are, but we aren't. This is not some one in a decade DC market. This happens literally every year.
"The right hire within the parameters he was given"- so fucking over this. So fucking tired. We should move to G5 if we have no fucking money. We continue to use extreme couponing techniques, we continue to lose. It's so fucking tiring how poor we seem to be.
Is it really insane when ND, PSU, OU, and UF all have openings at DC right now? Seems like it's simple supply and demand principle. DCs are in demand and will go to the best offer they get. None are signing on the dotted line if they are getting interest from other top institutions.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ivy-league educated, and currently the DC of the reigning National Champions. Maybe Oklahoma has something I don't know about (I've never been there to be completely honest), but I just can't imagine living in Oklahoma is that strong of a factor that would outweigh the other considerations. But, I really don't know.
It just seems to me that he's trying to get a raise. And good for him. He's considered one of the best DCs in the game right now and I would imagine he'll be a top candidate for HC next year.
There is an author listed, but yea I'm guessing it was AI generated.
Journalism as we used to know it is dead. The combination of the desire to hear the news you want to hear, calling legit journalists fake news, along with the rise of AI has created a firestorm of terrible journalism.
CZY over on 247 in the Mehul "Welp" non-paywall thread on this subject just chimed in and said:
Pry is trying to make the right hire within the parameters he was given, financially etc. But Jesus it's insane this isn't done yet.
Even the really reliable insiders like he and Mehul are starting to express frustration. Yeah I don't feel super optimistic about this at all. Signals to me that we still don't have a hire and Pry is struggling making a big decision like this. And Whit likely trying to put some financial constraints on this too isn't helping.
My personal odds on Quinn ending up being the hire just keep increasing by the day.
we might have saved enough to buy LED lights for Lane. Whit is playing serious 4D chess with finances right now
Lights light the same

I see the absolute crazy upset happening for at least one of Clemson, UNC, SMU, Louisville, or FSU. (Most likely FSU).
LMFAO... now you know why I put no stock in fucking anyone with a computer "reporting" on college football.
Not worthy of it's own thread but this is interesting. And crazy:
Top 5 Notre Dame defensive coordinator candidates for 2025
Chris Marve
Marve is one of the more intriguing "free agent" defensive coordinator candidates available as he was fired by Virginia Tech following the 2024 regular season. The Hokies' defense struggled down the stretch and ranked just 57th overall in the country. However, Marve proved successful as a defensive coordinator the year prior as the Hokies ranked in the top 20 nationally in total defense in 2023, producing 39 sacks which ranked second in the country. The former All-SEC linebacker at Vanderbilt began his coaching career in 2014 as an assistant at his alma mater before becoming a linebackers coach at Mississippi State and Florida State. The 35-year-old is young and relatively inexperienced, but his upside could make him an external candidate who the Fighting Irish pursue.
Imagine going from Golden to Marve. It's not going to happen, but WTF? How did Marve make a top 5 list? And I guess that's why I've never heard of Best Version Media until googling ND defensive coordinator to see if any of their candidates overlap with the names on the VT list.
Why the hell would you arm wrestle Jake Grove? I'm impressed you still have both arms.
Assuming, of course, that he didn't rip your arm off and beat you with it. In which case, my bad.
Yea, there is a lot of action with blue blood schools. It's going to take some time for things to shake out. Enjoy the ride. VT is probably one of the least desirable locations for a DC by comparison.
Sorry, the best game ever is Penny Can.
My first and only contest against a starter ended in a devastating arm wrestling defeat to Jake Grove. Don't know if that was much help, though.
And I think the chances of that are zero. The jobs of Pry and Whit are on the line (along along with everyone else in Merryman by association). I think the long extended search is a product of (1) there is a lot of DC movement with playoff teams that just ended their seasons and (2) not settling for underwhelming.
We're actively "competing" with ND, OSU, OU, UF, and PSU for a DC. While we are surely not in the same class as those teams, nobody that is a worthy candidate is signing on a dotted line until those schools say no. Guys like Poindexter and Guerrieri may not be top choices for those schools but they are candidates. And until they're not candidates, they're not going to sign on a dotted line for VT.
Against Whit's Men North of the Endzone?
Maybe it's a move to be closer to where he established his roots from his time as the Pokes DC. Just a guess

I love all of you guys man. It's all good. Of course I smiled.
