Hokies get extremely lucky. A ball called foul by ump isnt reviewed and it clearly hit the line and Clemson had scored on it. Mazzarone gets strike out on next pitch.

Welp Mazzarone botches a ground ball right to her and that snowballed into a 3 run homerun.

Saw in an article today that UConn spent $34M on its men's and women's bball teams (including coaches salaries). And "only" $20M on football.

I haven't seen any #'s, but willing to bet the budget for our two bball teams is a third of UConn's. But they have both teams in the final 4, so at least we know what it takes....

Hokies get a couple on but don't score

RIGHT?!?! I first had it out fishing with my buddy and wouldn't shut up about how much better it was than I expected. He said "dude, calm down, it's the Miller lite of Mexico" and I got offended on Modelo's behalf. Always have some in the garage fridge.

What program do you think is clearly going to improve more from 2025? I see a few possibilities, especially if you count "went from OK to great", but not many have a clear "could go from terrible to good".

Here is a perfect example of the difference in the budget Young gets vs UVA and many other ACC programs.

UVA hiring recently fired Syracuse Head Coach to be their 5th assistant coach.

Young meanwhile still only has 3 assistant coaches.

I enjoy this stuff because I always find the outsider view into our program interesting. My big takeaways:

  • They used the word 'desperation' a lot. And it's true. The fanbase is so desperate to just be relevant again.
  • It's kinda wild how much power we've given to James Franklin. He's going to basically do whatever he wants.
  • Really interesting listening to this juxtapose to the Tim Sands piece.

I liked that a lot of the discussion was centered around the clear plan that Franklin has his sights set on 2027 and 2028, and not just to give himself rope, but is observable by the majority of his squad building choices so far.

We all expect improvement this season, and I think we will get some, but 27 is definitely when expectations will rise considerably.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine from grad school that I used to play volleyball with all the time had a roommate that was a garbage man as his summer job. Guy told him it was the best job he ever had. Pays way, way more than most summer jobs. You have to get up early, but you are done by 10 or 11 AM, maybe 12 PM. The guy was a big golfer and he would just go out and play golf every afternoon he wanted to. 1 PM Tuesday afternoon - he'd be just about the only guy on the course. Said he loved the job.
