we'll get a VT guy anyway, guy that actually wants to pl.... coach here.
A bunch of the reddit posts I was reading always lead back to TCL, I'd never even heard of them until beginning to do this research.
CofC is a good school certainly doesn't have the national recognition but it's still a solid school. Charleston is easy to fall in love with especially for people of college age. Definitely more known for their liberal arts programs but they have a few good science programs. The big thing as a parent to consider is housing costs in Charleston are absolutely insane.
Kinda the drawback of keeping this search as quiet as they have. Eventually it just looks bad.
^^^ this right here.
Whit has done nothing but fuck up coordinator hires since he's been in Blacksburg. Apart from retaining Bud, he has not overseen a single truly good coordinator hire. Why would we expect him to have figured it out now?
I'm all for patience and withholding judgement. But I have no more patience or benefit of doubt to give Whit Babcock, and a whole list of reasons to think that a month is just too long, and something has gone wrong or was whiffed behind the scenes.
We have a friend whose talent is picking out restaurants (he was a restaurant inspector which he eventually parlayed into a career with the FDA).
Mexico City was one of his all time favorite trips. Off the top of his head:
We visited Reforma shopping center, and there are plenty of great restaurants around that area, which is also very safe and most embassies are there.
We went to Contramar, and it was excellent. Fisher's is another fantastic option—it's a chain, and they serve amazing seafood.
For authentic Mexican food, they can try La Casa de Toño in Zona Rosa, though it's not the only good spot.
be a whole lot easier to do if they would hurry the hell on up. from the outside it looks like we've been left holding the bag for the eleventy-billionth time, you can't fault people for thinking that
Vizio used to be a solid go to budget brand around the late 2000s into the 2010s. Since then, they've lowered the relative quality and raised prices while trying to coast off of their perceived brand quality. It's gotten so bad that Walmart actually acquired Vizio about a year ago. They've been mentioned a lot in this thread, but Hisense and TCL are the go to budget brands at the moment as you've also noticed.
I buy the cheapest TVs and then block everything via pi hole and ip based on my router for that make and model and then I dont hook it into the internet because fuckem
I haven't read through all the comments so sorry if someone has already posted this: stay away from Vizio, even the more expensive models. I've had 3 crap out and each one was around 2 years old. Have replaced one with a TCL, one with a Hisense and the last one with another Vizio. No issues so far with the cheaper TCL or Hisense.
Edit: I thought for sure one of the replacements was a TCL but it's not, it's also a Hisense. So all-in-all in my house 1 Vizio, 3 Hisense and 1 Westinghouse. The Westinghouse was one of the very first 1080p flatscreens made, we bought it in 2006 when we bought our first house. Still works like a charm.
I'm trying to be patient until an announcement is made, but after a month it's awful hard not to jump to conclusions!

Copped a 5(?)" Hisense Roku from Costco 3 years ago. I think it's wonderful for the price point.
Username checks out...
Or maybe the guy who said last week that it wasn't Dex knew what he was talking about and Dex has just been who WE think is the most logical choice, but he wasn't ever Pry's choice. As mentioned above, we're all making loads of assumptions.

I think we would all be well served in being patient and seeing what happens rather than getting worked up over hypotheticals and assumptions.
I just meant more than what we already had. I understand everyone else had them, my point is we (at least from my understanding) didn't have money for them until Whit got more from the donors. Again, point is he came up with more money for the program, which I was contesting someone saying he was cheap. If he was cheap, we would have been staffing all those new positions with interns and other cheap as hell options.
I bought a 65" TCL Roku tv with UHD and QLED 3 years ago and have absolutely zero regrets. It's very feature-rich but also super easy to use (I don't use most of the bells and whistles it has). Looks like from a quick search you could nab a 50" or 55" for less than $300.
Thank you sir. I had heard about Lewis BBQ and Rodney Scott's as well. None of us really like seafood. I really like shrimp - which is like the exception that proves the rule in English - so we probably won't be going to places that feature seafood as their main thing, but we have so many good options suggested by the two of you.
By the way, do you have a feel for how good or bad College of Charleston is? Just looking at rankings and acceptance rates, it looks pretty so-so, but you should not put too much credence in these rankings as they all have their biases and 1 department can be good and another bad. It was not on our list of places to visit but maybe we should at least swing by there for her to see it if she likes the area.
Agree. Never go to a generic ATM, always go to one affiliated with a real bank.
Also, if an ATM (or vendor) gives you choice of converting dollars to Euro for you, refuse it. Always do your transactions in EURO, as debit/credit card rates are better than anyone offering to "help" with a conversion rate.
Wait until you get there, and go to a regular bank ATM (not at the airport). That'll give you the best rate.
Post-Covid, Europe is a LOT more contact-free credit card and ApplePay friendly, but having some cash helps with street vendors, markets, cafes, etc, and some restaurants and bars that prefer cash.
The rumors at the time were that Pry was actually trying to hire Dex as his DC the first time around before Marve. But then UVA caught wind and involved Dex in their HC search, ultimately slow played him, but caused Pry to move on and Dex just to go back to PSU and hold out there
Don't tell me that! I'm trying to keep some level of hope!

Dang I didn't know that. That's good to know I've had such good luck with them I recommend them cause my 70" from 2017ish is still awesome while I've run through a couple other brands in my bedroom.
