Yeah, that, and an OLED won't quite take the impact of a golf ball the way a projector screen will.

Honestly, we have a couple of those (not for the main TVs, though). They work fine, are inexpensive, and the Roku interface is native, so great UI.

One other thing that is nice about the Roku TVs is that if you lose the remote, you can always use the Roku app on your phone, which pairs with every Roku TV/box/stick on your wireless network. It's also fun to mess with the TV my kids are watching downstairs. ;^)

Is it possible to even find a non-smart TV these days?

Not really. You just focus on the TV attributes/capabilities that you want independent of the "smart" capabilities, and use your streaming device to stream.

Case in point: When I bought the basement TV, wow, 13 years ago, I got a 3D TV solely because it had a 4th HDMI port. At the time, I needed one for the Audio Return Channel for the soundbar, plus three others for a gaming system, a DVD player, and a streaming box.

Just get the TV for what you really need in it, and ignore the "smart" specs.

Back in 2024 I realized (i.e. finally admitted) my relationship with alcohol was not great and decided to be proactive about it. Ended up not drinking from May onward. I had set the goal of alcohol free for the rest of the year and made it through, which was both harder (but not that hard) and easier than I thought it would be. Anyway, I reflected a lot on how I wanted to involve alcohol in my life (if at all). Had a couple drinks on NYE and a beer at dinner the other night. Might be TMI or slightly off-topic to this thread, but I definitely feel healthier and its been quite a pleasant experience overall. Highly recommend.

As much as I hate to do this, I wholeheartedly agree with Alum07 regarding getting a TV to pair with a Roku or some other streaming box.

At some point, the upgrade support on your TV is going to sunset, and the more "smart" features it has, the sooner you're going to notice things getting out of date. Streaming boxes are much better for software updates to both the box and the apps. And the user interfaces on most "smart" TVs are utter crap, so you're going to find yourself using the streaming box much more often. I bought a smart TV years ago, and once I added on a Roku box, I almost never changed the input away from that.

So I would recommend looking for a TV that has the things you want in it, ignoring the "smart" TV capabilities. Things like picture quality, size, number of HDMI/USB inputs (this is key if you have gaming systems). Then get a Roku box (or an AppleTV box, or a FireTV box, but I've used them all and the Roku user interface is the best), not the stick but the box. Streaming boxes generally have better processors in them, so you're going to have less wait time when you fire up an app.

Once you setup the TV and streaming box, Alum's advice below to disconnect the internet from the TV is really good. You're going to want to stream through the streaming box anyways.

I even gave Alum a leg or two in this thread. That's how strongly I feel about "smart" TVs. Great. Now I feel dirty. ;^)

He was rumored to be in the mix for OC with Mike Bobo (damn we should have hired him), Pep Hamilton- bum, and Leoffler.. we went with Lefty, primarily because we are VT and he was unemployed (read cheap).

I had to google who Chuck Long was. He was an NFL QB.

I hereby nominate "Chuck Long" to be the greatest QB name in the history of football.

Nora Abromavage made the Softball America Freshman watch list along with Jayden Jones and Jordan Lynch.

Abromavage is an outfielder
Jones and Lynch are utility infielders.

I did it a few years ago with my dad. It was an amazing trip. We did 2 days in Cusco, Inca Trail, and then one more day in Cusco and flew out that night. I've heard Lima's great, but we don't have any FOMO really.

We did the Inca Trail with the company Salkantay Trekking. We went over Labor Day weekend and it was just us and one other couple in our group. Our guide was really knowledgeable and porters/chefs were great. What they they do is really impressive.

There's also a Salkantay trek they offer which is an alternative to the Inca Trail. My understanding is that some of the views and landscapes on Salkntay are better, but Inca Trail offers more ruins and settlements along the way. We did Inca because that's what we were more interested in, but there were still plenty of breathtaking (sometimes literally ZING) views along the way.

Best city in North America??? Wife and I have been twice and absolutely love it.

Some of these recommendations may not be the best for a work trip but I figured I'd just throw them all out there. You should really consider extending your trip to include a weekend if possible.

Food:
- General note on street foods/tacos. There are infinite amazing options. Go for a walk and don't be afraid to stop at whatever stands look good and popular with the locals. Tacos Los Juanes (stand) and Taqueria Orinoco (brick and mortar) are great in Roma Norte.
- Maximo. Excellent food in a really cool space. More affordable than the M-star places.
- Expendio de Maiz Sin Nombre. No reservations, no menu. Chefs make rounds of food for the whole restaurant and you decide if you want it or not. Corn-centric restaurant.

Bars (CDMX has tons of cool places to drink):
- Tlecan, Tierra Seca Mezcaleria (intimate spot to try some different agave spirits), Bar Felix, La Clandestina (get the guac con chapulines), Pulqueria Los Insurgentes if you want to try pulque (you should!)

To-do:
- Take a walk or a run around Bosque de Chapultepec (CDMX's Central Park). The anthropology museum. maybe my all-time fav museum, is located there (it's free... check out the Aztec/Mexica exhibit!!!). The contemporary art museum in the park is also excellent.
- Catch a Lucha Libre show at Arena Mexico. Absolute blast. Drink a michelada or two. Can buy tickets at the window, no need to buy ahead.
- Frida Kahlo Museum and Mercado Coyoacan (bustling market with plenty of cheap souvenirs and good food stands) in the Coyoacan neighborhood.
- El Bazar Sabado. Saturday-only bazaar with incredible original art and craft offerings. Stupid cheap. Worth extending your trip to Saturday for and leaving half of your suitcase empty on the way there.

Where to stay?
- Roma Norte or Condesa neighborhoods (if you have flexibility on where you can book accommodations). Super cool, walkable neighborhoods close to the center of the city and Chapultepec park.

I can sympathize with your wife. I gained 50 lbs with my pregnancy and the day I exceeded my husband's weight on the smart scale was a dark day. Keep in mind I kept up my 10000 step streak all the way through and wasn't gorging on ice cream or anything crazy. That was in addition to hearing about my geriatric pregnancy at the ripe old age of 36. We found out later that a lot of it was fluid due to preeclampsia which really spun up post partum. Another one of those things they don't tell you about pregnancy. Perk though was losing 30 pounds in two weeks when the fluid took itself off.

For your wife after she delivers, easy walks are your friend. Gets you all and the baby out of the house so it just becomes a normal thing. Just be careful with ab exercises after delivery diastasis recti is definitely a thing and trying to get the pelvic floor back into shape takes a while.

I'm currently watching a 15 year old pre-ultra HD TV - anything is likely to be an upgrade image-wise.

this has always been my mantra with phones -- upgrades from Pixel to Pixel 3a and then to Pixel 6a were like night and day different for me and felt incredible vs what i had, even though i had people in my life telling me the $300 i spent on the 6a was a worse purchase than getting the brand new 7 Pro or whatever it was at the time for $750

Nothing beats watching movies on a good projector.
