The fact that the safety room is rebuilt could be an indication that the DC-to-be-hired may have some experience coaching top-end safeties. Or maybe it's just coincidence.

Yeah this is where my head's at too. There's just too much smoke around Dex and maybe JSJ joining him. How have we completely coincidentally rebuild the entire safety room with no DC? I think even some of the VT board insiders on other sites are just trying to throw out some misdirection and riddles now just because it's getting so obvious with PSU still in the playoffs.
We could probably get Tulsa's DC on the cheap, though I'm sure Whit would be happy with any of these in the "top" 10.

Pretty sure with Altuner we've now signed more P4 transfers than any other transfer class we've had at VT but that wouldn't fit your narrative as well so keep focusing on the couple FCS guys.

I agree. While I understand that one can occasionally benefit from or develop a "diamond in the rough", the real measurement of where you are as a program is in comparing metrics to your contemporaries and to the programs you wish to emulate. So yeah where we rank on those metrics provides the clearest (and most unbiased) view of the program.
Well you would think that transferring schools as much as you want, when you want would benefit someone? The players? very few, sure but hundreds never find a new home. The coaches? Pry benefits from Delane leaving? no. Pry benefits from having to recruit his entire team every year? No. The schools? again - a few, but no school has moved up the food chain considerably except maybe Indiana for one year. This nonsense benefits very very few. It has zero benefit to normal fans obviously. When there is so much lose/lose you hope that the system gets fixed sooner than later.

And NFL players are employees which in my experience change jobs for more money all the time.
PJ Fleck coaches Minnesota, who is 7th amoung current FBS programs in national titles and is two games below .500 in conferencr pkay and everyone thinks he's a good coach. For reference Pry is 3 games under .500 in conference games

Great friend of mine is a high end dentist (meaning does total reconstruction/cases- not cavities) in Charlotte. He has worked on several NFL players that either were on the Panthers or in their camp that then went to NASCAR to work. To a man they said NASCAR weight training and cardio was much tougher than the NFL. Those guys are beasts.
