TBH I put the trouble there mostly on where Jim Weaver was by that point. I don't fault him for trying to work as long as he could work, but earlier-tenure JW drops that axe sooner and has a good replacement lined up.
I will never understand this basic lack of strategy in college basketball.
In late game situations, there is no scenario where you should ever, ever, ever guard the inbounder when pressing.
This has been a Mike Young favorite, and Florida just did it to give a wide open three to Iowa and lose in the final seconds.
After a dead ball, the inbounder can run the Baseline--having somebody there does literally nothing other than take a potential Defender and leave them way in the back court where they can watch from 50+ feet away.
Drop that player back to Halfcourt... it prevents the breakout pass like Iowa got, and gives you a guy to trap if they try and dribble up the sideline.
Welcome to the off-season, Hoos

Met a gentleman in January who was his bodyguard for 25-years.
The Lone Wolf ranch is about 30-mins from here. All the stories you heard about him being a solid dude, are true. RIP.
Zero perfect brackets left on ESPN
It's nice to actually be optimistic about the program.
Sure - there is zero guarantee that Franklin can re-establish VT Football.
But I feel like there's ample evidence that he can recruit, and he can recruit to VT.
F UVA. That is all.
Suck it hoos.
Texas just beat oregon by 42
I think there is also the issue of, with the entire free agent system we live under, no one is confident that many of the players signed out of high school will be with the team long enough to have a meaningful impact. Of course, some will - assuming that the coaching staff stays here for more than 2 years. It's just that 1 good recruiting off-season if not enough to wash off what we have all lived through the past 15 years. It is good, don't get me wrong. Just some people are going to take the 'let's see what happens on the field before we get too hyped-up' attitude.
We would only need that for one more season...
Around $350k per year to the conference. What would VT see out of it? Maybe a new popcorn machine.
I will get excited when a new and different pattern emerges.
Did you see the last class?
A dozen years of disappointment on our recruiting abilities makes this so hard to believe. Prove me wrong, coach!
3-1 week
12-10 now
Interesting that 197 is pretty young and 285 is so old. I wonder how many of those guys will bump up in the future.
Grube Walkoff Bases Loaded Single in bottom of 10th.
Win 7-6
First ACC series win in almost a year
First time winning a series against Duke in 4 years
At this point, I'm team ACC. Each win is worth $2 million a year for the ACC for five years, no?
This team is as stupid as their head coach
Now Hokies blow a perfect chance to score in 9th. Ethan Ball led off with double. Locurto deep shot to center and Ethan Ball tagged up but left early.
Goes from easy 1 out runner on third to two outs no one on.
Hokies blow it in the 9th to let Duke tie. Simple ground ball to short becomes a two base error. Sac fly moved him to 3rd.
Two consecutive base hits with two outs.
6-6 with runners on 1st/2nd.
Ugh play by play guy just reminded us its been almost a year since the Hokies have won an ACC series

Buzz and Brands were hired with everyone involved knowing they'd leave the moment they got the job they wanted somewhere else. Dresser is the wrestling coach worth being disappointed about -- he'd built actual Virginia roots.
Won't rehash the Kenny stuff. And Hughes, given the challenge Blacksburg weather puts on running a competitive baseball program, it's hard to get super upset about any baseball coach getting out when the getting's that good.
