Agreed.
My preference ideal hire is a G5/FCS head whistle who used to be a DC. Give him $1.5m. He can be an AHC and DC (like Bama did when they hired Kane Wommack)
Well at least Pry is showing that he gets it.
Now his work is cut out for him, but he's taken the first step. I'm hoping he can fix this thing, and quick.
He's going to have to write some uncomfortably big checks this year.

Realistically, he needs someone who has a proven track record of running good defenses at the P5 or NFL level (guy who was a well respected coordinator, took a HC job that didn't work out kind of situation) and can get whatever he wants to run up and working fast.

I never understood the disrespect towards Sorenson from Hokie fans. Man was a jack of all trades and more than proved his worth. And as someone who is experiencing the emergence of shiny scalp where luxurious locks once grew, the man just has great hair to go with his sort of unique football talents.
Unless he transfers somewhere else and is subsequently not drafted. NOT getting him drafted seems like it means we can't get guys in the league, right?

It may cost a $100,000 fine per fight, but if we get more eyeballs on the league because people want to watch teams play that have bad blood. between them, that's a fee I'd gladly pay if it nets us millions in TV revenue.
Similar to Michael Jordan wearing his red shoes every game and just paying his fines.
I want games to be interesting again and I miss the vitriol we used to have for certain teams that I no longer see on campus when said teams come to town.

No coordinator currently coaching in the CFB playoffs is going to voluntarily leave after the season to take a step down to be DC at VT. If they were going to leave a playoff team it would be, at worst a lateral move to another playoff team that lost a coordinator or a to big name B1G/SEC team, or at best a step up to be a HC or an NFL job.

These days, I'm not sure high schools produce enough fundamentally sound, willing tacklers who can fill and consistently make tackles in space for us to play that kind of defense. They produce guys who fly toward...and then often by...the legs/feet of the ball carrier. Even NFL teams struggle to find enough DB's who can consistently break down and wrap up. That's one thing that the really good NFL teams do consistently well (and the middling to bottom teams do not).

I can't disagree. Been in ATL for over a decade now, and know nothing about the local HC chapter.
I also think there's a misalignment of giving/incentives. I have no incentive to increase my giving since I can't make it to games.
My buddy gives a grand per month to Tulane's NIL. For donating at this level, he gets an invite to a weekly conference call with John Summerall, and all the other donors at his level. I guess Summerall just spills all the tea on these calls. For example, when the upcoming quarterback put his name in the portal, Summerall explained how it went down how much he was making a two lane and how much he was gonna get at Duke. Summerall talks NIL, coach gossip, recruiting stuff, etc. it's basically like having a subscription to an insider I guess? But coming directly from the coach. Idk if I could swing $12k for that, but I'd gladly give 4 figures per year for that access.
I'm glad the staff shakeup happened, because frankly it was necessary and shows we are at least holding people accountable. But we have to see who the replacements are and how the staff reorganization plays out. Also I know this was a 6-6 team, but we have lost/are losing a ton of players to the portal. I know we have a chance to flip the roster and improve, but losing your whole starting OL basically is going to be a tall task to rebuild through the portal. Still not optimistic next year is any better (and could be worse). But have to see how the offseason and hires/transfers play out.

Yep. Pretty refreshing. The hardest part of the job is firing guys you've built a rapport with and trying to hire replacements who will do a better job.
It gives me hope but this is only a baby step in the right direction. It's good to know that Pry has identified our biggest areas of need and made the tough decision. It's evident he's not making the same huge glaring mistake his predecessor made. I was worried it was going to be the same old story again. The story just got different.

We had Wilfork, witten, and Johnson then Royal, Morgan, clowney, harper, hyman then coales/boykin to Marcus Davis and Fuller who hadn't played football in 3 years we then went to ford/Phillips. It's insane how many great recievers we've had and then just dropped to most physically imposing WR VT has ever seen who didn't want to play have the plays or more.
I guess they're going to have to write some pretty big checks.
