Pry had the hard conversation with Coaches and held them accountable. Nice to see Pry can make HC decisions and not just keep his buddies in a job.
I mean, it's not like pro players don't have huge egos and unreasonable expectations. SF had a LB refuse to play in the third quarter against the Rams. "He didn't want to play".
I'm about ready to check out on college sports
And just like that Pry gives me the slightest sliver of hope and reels me back in
Thank gawd - because I was over here like:

Belichek used to work for Robert Kraft, so there's that.
TBF to LT, he did lose the top receivers in school history going from 2011 to 2012. That is going to impact anyone.
No way Vice comes back to Blacksburg.
Zero chance.
Welcome
Coach Vice is on his way to Purdue with the UNLV staff that was hired. His daughter just committed to play volleyball there. (Top 10 volleyball program).
I've semi-joked on TKP before that we should throw a mil each at the Penn St wrestling squad. Just rent them for a year to get a title, only ten weight classes so it'd be cheaper than a football title.
I think Pry knows enough ball to see what's on the field. He basically called Marve out in the presser after Syracuse.
I am not an 'actual football peep' so my answer may be ignorant...
I think Our defensive philosophy, system, and scheme has to match what we want to do on offense/special teams (aka complimentary ball) and has to match talent that we can reasonably land (so what are high schoolers in our recruiting radius, what concepts are similar bs completely different, what body types are we/can we recruiting at each position, etc)
If Pry believes that the Gap/Fill/Spill philosophy is the best way for us to win based on the guys we can expect to land, the teams we play, and the way the offense wants to play, then I'm here for it.
Well, now maybe he can stay and get that.
Or, one that at least stops mediocre (and good) teams from scoring at will.
Every time you create a system, there are immediately lawyers crawling on it to find the loopholes.
If you can think of half of them, you're a genius. The NCAA isn't a genius. And is in reality an agent of the entities that seek to build in an advantage for the moneyed interests/blue bloods.
I'm pretty sure they've been making us leave dirt. They scrape the bottom of their cleats on the way out.
Change the system to fit the game, not the game to fit the system.
His system ... no
the type of defense he wants? .... yes, we need to play complimentary football sp our defense needs to fit the overall game plan and style of play VT wants implement and it had to be one that VT can recruit for.
I'm the odd man out of having a 100+ page manifesto on how to rub things at my jobs
This isn't going to end well. You may have a future in politics. STILL won't end well.
Hire a good DC. Let him build something new.
The first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. We've tried to work the current system for long enough.

Guess he really wanted to fit the crowd in Boone (from what I've heard)
Can confirm it was a joke
Pleasantly surprised and relieved to see all of the apparent biggest areas of need addressed at once (outside of possibly QB development) while maintaining some staff continuity. I'm still anxious that the replacement hires won't have enough experience to make an immediate difference on the field or help maintain excitement around the program for recruiting, but at least now there's some hope and Pry actually did what he needed to do.
"I appreciate the work Coach Marve, Coach Crook and Coach Galt have put into Virginia Tech football," said Pry. "They are great men who, alongside their families, have poured into our university and our student-athletes."
Taking a moment to acknowledge the work those coaches put into the program and the fact firing people you like based on performance could not have been easy for Pry. I think whether or not he's able to make good enough staff hires remains the biggest open question for Pry as the head coach and his willingness to make changes was a very positive indicator he could still be successful at VT.

It's not that he lost the top two guys, it's that our WR recruiting was so bad that we had No one. We had Wilfork, witten, and Johnson then Royal, Morgan, clowney, harper, hyman then coales/boykin to Marcus Davis and Fuller who hadn't played football in 3 years we then went to ford/Phillips. It's insane how many great recievers we've had and then just dropped to most physically imposing WR VT has ever seen who didn't want to play have the plays or more.
