Assuming we may see Belfort leave with this news? I mean, it seems as if Drones starts next year, more development for Pop, and then Pop starts after Drones leaves.

I'm almost never happy, and don't want to celebrate, when people lose their job. But sometimes you just have to get rid of terrible employees, and these changes had to be made. Let's wish them the best as they work towards their future and that they can be more successful. Let's also be optimistic that this will lead to improvements with our team going forward.
I want to see Bowen's offense with a slightly serviceable OL.

Defensive transfers are going to be tough to get until a new DC is settled on. Lots of young guys are going to get a chance to step foward without that infusion of external talent.
Are we building a quality QB pipeline? Pop getting another year of training before starting isn't a bad thing. Drones getting another year to put on film what he can do is good too. Having 2 or 3 QBs behind Pop gives us at least one that will be ready to take over when Pop leaves.
Pry also talked about consulting with Bruce Arians. He has always won in the offseason with off-the-field things. The firings, the presser, and the things he said is a win. Would love if it could translate to winning one score games.
Color me nervous to have yet another OL coach
Well at least there will be yet another OL to go along with it.
I had a friend ask me if NIL or transfer portal is the bigger problem. To me it's transfer portal. I think it hurts the kids and teams. NIL was basically done under the table before and now it's in the open and kids are getting their value (or getting a reality check on how not-valuable they are).
For transfer portal,
It hurts the kids because
1. unless they are an out of the gate great talent, they likely wont know what they could have become because they don't dedicate themselves for years to become greater than they were.
2. related to the video, the kids that do go to the NFL used to have a built-in fanbase that gave a kid a shortcut to earning money after they graduate. Now, kids don't stay with teams long enough for a fanbase to care that much about them. This will eventually become a marketing problem.
It hurts teams for more obvious reasons like no roster consistency year-to-year, no multi-year build-up programs anymore (0 chance VT becomes what it became during the 90s and early 00s if the transfer portal existed), and requirement to spend gadzooks kind of money to pay for a mini NFL team (GMs, salaries, etc).
College Basketball will probably be fine because we got used to one-and-dones and one player can make a HUGE difference. VT could probably pay for a five star to come here and round out the roster with 3 & 4 star growth talent and field a pretty good team next year. That wouldn't work in football. Having said that, I really don't care about our basketball players because I anticipate them leaving. This will probably happen in football too.
If we could add restrictions to transfer portal like bringing back the one year sit UNLESS the team being transferred to compensates the team being transferred from with all costs poured into the kid from the school. I think that would make a good balance of pros/cons for transferring kids and for schools looking for transfers.
I assume with Drones' injury issues right now, that Pop will at least be the starting QB for the bowl game.
Things will get really interesting if Pop shows out big time in the bowl game. With the delta in remaining eligibility between the two, it feels like the #1 priority here should be to keep Pop in the boat. At the same time, I'm really hoping Drones can get right for 2025, he never looked 100% this season.

Lol nooooooooope it is not. And believe you me I have a lot of the same issues there as well, especially seeing how they tried their damnedest to keep Andretti out. Very happy McLaren won the WCC this year but I also know that came from ME investors saving the company from bankruptcy during COVID as well as Zak selling a sponsorship for every piece of carbon fiber on the car to get enough money to compete. Money is king in F1, though at least they are trying by limiting wind tunnel time and development spending for teams to try and level the playing field.

If this is the case, just makes our usage of him when he was clearly hurt this year problematic. How much did we worsen a bad situation by having him out there running read options behind a bad line when he was already hobbled? The Vandy game especially
I think it is but there is the most depth on this roster at the two forward spots as well so Young isn't forced to play him like he is Johnson and Hammond.

Yes. Whistles were quick but the Aggies were good at driving the ball into contact. We also played the whole bench a significant amount of the game.

He's bald and he's got a beard. He's got the S&C coach measurables down already.
dont think it's that simple -- there is a real chance that whoever loses the job splits, especially if it's drones simply because the staff cant try to sell him on being patient to wait his turn
Paul Johnson triple option tree.
I honestly thought after the offensive turnaround in 2023 and Brent Davis implementing some of his option run concepts that we were going to see our offense evolve into a pretty interesting hybrid spread read option attack. But a lot of those option looks disappeared from the offense at the beginning of this year and we reverted to Bowen's preferred inside zone. I still think by design we tried to limit Drones' in the run game and showcase his drop back passing early on, and then it became evident that he just wasn't effective and the OL wasn't executing. If Davis does get the job I would be intrigued on how it impacts our run game moving forward. We know the guy can coach, no doubt.
Pry gave a little insight into near term in his presser:
- Davis will coach OL for the bowl
- Quinn and Pry will coach defense and make decision on who calls defensive plays in the bowl closer to the game.
- Pry is "leaning on" Bud for some help through this transition
- Jarrett Ferguson will be interim S&C coach.
- There will be internal and external candidates for these positions.
Confidence picks on nearly 50 games is tough work
I highly doubt it. His scheme was one of the best in the B1G. Scheme isn't the issue, but it was pretty clear Marve didn't have a good pulse for when to call pressures and the linebackers never seemed to be comfortable (which isn't shocking- Tisdale, Lawson, and Keller were all HS safeties that didn't have to fit blockers, and Woodson played outside.)
Pry has to find high upside recruits at WILL linebacker, and corner, and be better at safety. Poindexter makes sense because he was the DB coach and could take over safeties as a position coach (the worst position on the defense but with a couple of high upside young players in the pipeline with Reddish and Robinson), and then bring in a LB coach with some recruiting chops.
