VT voting to add Stanford, Cal and SMU was the point where it seemed clear to me that the administration wasn't serious about football
Adding those three schools to the league did nothing to help football, long term
As a fan of college football, I hate the idea of those teams in the ACC because I believe conferences should be regional. As a fan of Virginia Tech, I don't see anyway that it's detrimental to football?
I do see potential upsides:
- I'm at most 50% confident the ACC will be in tact in 7 years - If this is the case, the downside is basically zero, and VT steals a few mil.
- Those schools (and the cable network money they bring) will increase conference revenue by a not significant, but also not negligible amount. If we assume each school brings in $30m (under the ACC avg), then we're looking at an extra $6m/school/year - I know the 'real' number is smaller since SMU is the only one taking $0 for an extended period of time, and there's also travel expenses... but it's effectively a 2-5% percent raise for the next 6+ years
- AAU access seems like something that will matter for a bubble-P2 team like VT. I buy the notion that there is some politicking here that may help us (or not hurt us).

. Also subway owns the market on "I'm gonna punish myself with a low quality sandwich".
Something we can agree on
I guess we need to coordinate in the future when he stops watching; so I can start watching.

Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see
I want to believe Guitarman. Really, I do. But I just don't see evidence to support the claim. I think, for me, VT voting to add Stanford, Cal and SMU was the point where it seemed clear to me that the administration wasn't serious about football. Maybe they want football to be good. Maybe they understand the importance of having a good football program. That move makes it pretty clear that they don't understand how to have a good football program.
Adding those three schools to the league did nothing to help football, long term. Maybe for the next 7 years it means a few extra pennies in our pockets but we also just added huge travel expenses so.... And eventually those teams will start splitting an ever shrinking pie more ways, meaning less resources for VT. Additionally, the move effectively destroyed any semblance of hope VT (and other possible high profile targets) had for an exit strategy from a dying league. The ACC is sinking fast. Adding those teams just wrapped the anchor around our own necks.
Adding those teams to the league was a shortsighted, scared, chickenshit move with absolutely 0 long term benefit for VT football. People who make that kind of choice might say they care about football but they have no clue how to deliver.
Is it completely wild to think that this Men's team could gel and become a scrappy team that does damage in the ACC? I've only watched 1.5 games this season, but the turnovers appear to me to be a symptom of a team that just hasn't played together than much. There wasn't any one player who looked like he could take over a game, but there also wasn't a player who I dreaded touching the ball.
Or maybe I'm just blissfully ignorant how bad we could be?
I mean while I like Jersey Mike's they are just another sandwich shop and the MBAs are going to look for ways to save pennies so do they not cut the meat in front of you? What changes? The biggest benefit of Jersey Mike's is they cuts the meat and has cheesesteaks. If they use precut meat, then why not firehouse or potbelly or a number of options. Also subway owns the market on "I'm gonna punish myself with a low quality sandwich".

Churchill has been attributed many great quotes
I believe it was Churchill that said Anericabs will always do the right thing, after exhausting all other possibilities.
