I would like to direct you to Guitarman's post on this last week (of which I recommend you read in its entirety):

trust me when I say that all of the upper admin realizes the importance of football to the economy of the entire NRV and the effect it has on the morale at VT. If anyone thinks that the president, provost, and other administrators don't care about football or are too aloof about it, they are flat wrong. I'm literally in the room when these things are being discussed. As I said, some details have been told to me in confidence and I will not betray that confidence, but we are being as proactive as is possible. There are budgetary and legal constraints on what we're trying to do (or being essentially forced to by the changing landscape of NIL), but our leaders aren't stupid.

Either give him a meaningless job since he wont retire

This was literally done 5 years ago. He has nothing to do with football anymore. He referred Pry and got his interview process started. He didn't cajole Whit into hiring Pry.

I agree with you 1000%

I just don't believe our administration sees it that way

That's what I am talking about!!! Show up, spike the punch bowl and grab a trophy on your way out! Way to go Hokies XC!

But a simple stroll down memory lane should be all it takes to convince them otherwise. Applications soared on the back of the 1995 and 1999 football seasons. Having top tier athletics is like having a free marketing campaign especially when you get nationally televised games. Whether the BOV likes it or not. having top notch sports teams helps legitimize the University as a big time school and change the perception from just an engineering school in the hills. You think anyone outside the state of Alabama would be trying to get in to either Auburn or Bama if they didn't have the sports notoriety that they do?? Hell no. Also I would be interested to see if overall donations and/or licensing take go up when the athletic department is successful. I would think people find more pride in their University when the successes are so public as they are with sports. They buy more shirts, car stickers, license plate holders, flags, etc. This should be an easy sell to the BOV.

Drones out might not be such a bad thing. Tuten out hurts tho.

In any case, Bowen showed against cuse that he can still find points without those guys. What we really need is for the defense to show up in a big way. Maybe Pry spent a little more time on that side of the ball with the extra prep time. Maybe, just maybe, our defense will be able to make a couple stops.

I think you're absolutely right. Overhauling the AD is a decision that could only be made if the larger institution is committed to athletic excellence and I don't believe ours is.

In other words, I think our administration and BOV would need to be interested in having a serious football program in order to overhaul the AD - and overhauling the AD will be a years long commitment that will be necessary and painful to do in order to establish a top tier football program.

Sadly, I think that is a pipedream. I just don't believe that the people who really matter are that invested in football.

That's why I think we need to reset our expectations. VT is what it is. A middling program in a middling conference. We're probably lucky to have a .500 football team over the last 5 to 10 years. It's going to get worse before it gets better. And I see very few signs indicating that it's going to get better any time soon. Probably not until I'm retired, at best.

💯

I don't pay for shit. I only watch VT. Most of my weekend media consumption is EPL.

HOKIES aside, I'm basically completely checked out on college football. The product is ruined, imo. I don't think there's any saving it at this point. Eventually the only people watching will be sec and big10 fans and when that happens the networks won't be able to afford paying the huge sums of money those leagues will demand and the house of cards will collapse. I just don't know when that will be. Could be 50 years from now.

They intentionally made conference championship victory NOT a requirement because there were too many years where a strong contender was the loser in the SEC between Bama and Georgia and Big10 with Ohio State and Michigan.

The BCS wasn't far superior. There were always questions about how good certain teams were. I, for one, would have loved to see how that undefeated UCF team would have done in a playoff setting. Then there was, is the #3 or even #4 team possibly better than the #1, especially if there were large scoring differences in the 1vs2 and 3vs4 games.

Yes. I'm not a big Jersey Mike's fan. Nothing against it. Think it is pretty good. But just about anything PE gets its tentacles into it screws up and ruins.

I had posted on LinkedIn, what's the over-under on how long it will take them to drive Jersey Mike's into bankruptcy? 18 months, 2 years, 5 years?

I think it is even bigger than the Athletic Department. The whole administration and Board of Visitors does not value athletic success. It's why we didn't fire Fuente a year earlier. The mega donors are courted to contribute to academics, not athletics.

There has to be change at the very top, which I don't think will happen.

I'm totally done with anything non ACC or G5. They're not even hiding it anymore, it's a total cabal. The rankings are completely devoid of logic or consistency. I refuse to watch any Big 10 SEC only matchups (with the possible exception of Indiana vs an SEC team this year).

I cancelled all TV subscriptions last year and will not re-up (higher percentage of the money goes to the Big 10/SEC networks basically no matter where you live). I've been relying on free streams and it's been fine, will drop links for anyone who wants to do the same (not on TKP ofc).

If a large enough bloc of ACC Big 12 and G5 fans just refuse to participate, maybe, maybe it will have some effect on this complete destruction of the sport we all once loved. Either way I'm out they're not getting a cent of my money pulling this bs.

My wife asked me why she didn't take the open threes.

Suffren then attacked the rim, drew the hoop and the harm, and sank the FT.

I said, "because she gets the 3, plus the foul on the other team"
