I think Joe would be satisfied if the ongoing membership of the Key Play matches the ongoing number of days that Tech has been in possession of the Commonwealth Cup.... currently at 4324..... and yes, infinity is the number we shoot for there too..... I'm not sayin ..... but just sayin.

So I watched Pitt vs UNC last night. I will be doing a detailed preview of UNC next week, however here is a teaser on both teams.

1) Pitt is a phenomenal run stopping team, yet their nickel guys and safeties can't cover a lick. Pitt also scored every possession they had until the middle of the 4th quarter. Pitt is much more diverse offensively than last year. While they don't have a wide receiver like Tyler Boyd, they have a kid named Quadry Henderson who is a PLAYER. He is a Super Mario version of the scatback Zaccheaus that gave the Hokies a hard time from UVA last season. He gets 20+ touches a game and every one is dangerous.

2) UNC struggled stopping the run, however their front was pretty good against Pitt. Conner didn't get a whole lot of room. Where Pitt got yardage was through misdirection and getting Henderson and some other scat guys going against the flow. That bodes well given the strength of Fuente's offense right now. This is a game where Hodges, Carroll, Rogers, and Cunningham have to have big games. UNC's outside corners are excellent. Their nickel and safeties are not as good.

3) UNC's slot receivers decimated whoever Pitt had covering inside. Switzer, Proehl, and the TE all had big days. Between the dynamic play of those guys, coupled with the stress that the read option puts on the edge, it will be a huge challenge for Terrell Edmunds, Mook Reynolds, Chuck Clark, and the linebackers.

I too may be biased, but I think FifthFuller's notion from above suits my feelings on this:

I like that they are showing a huge commitment to a burgeoning field, and I hope Tech can focus on lending some credibility and rigorous process to the profession.

Emphasis on credibility. Don't become a degree farm that attracts students of all interests because of an easy path and the potential starting salary. Get involved in research in emerging tech, put out good quality graduates and build the reputation of the program by the additions you make to the industry. Lots of empty suits and minds that chase the paycheck IMO.

Whiskey is put in rotting trees, which may or may not have been burnt, until it looks and tastes more like a tree. Unless you get white whiskey (unaged). A lot of those can be really tasty and have some super interesting flavors.

Bye week makes me think about what other teams I should root for to help the Hokies.

Then I remember I don't want to root for any other team.

I've had my eye on Vinny this year and he certainly hadn't disappointed. In the Liberty game he looked like the best player on the D-Line, and they had no answer for him (other than to false start.)
In particular I was worried he wasn't fast enough. After just the first quarter of the Liberty game it was clear he's plenty fast.

A bye week is when your wife whispers in your ear that after dinner, you are getting some cherry pie.
Then, right after dinner, she hands you a slice of cherry pie and a glass of milk.

This week is a tough slate to pick on...
