There's a lot more Sunday games than I expected. I'm only a few hours away from the burg, so that shouldn't be an issue (other than a few sleepy Monday mornings.) I'm glad we pulled Wake for senior night, although that falls on Spring Break. Starting ACC play with Duke on NYE is....different. Looks like I might be ringing in the new year in downtown Blacksburg.

I'm right there with you...his offenses showed flashes (few and far between..but still..flashes) and I think he was certainly well versed from an Xs and Os standpoint. He just wasn't effective as a teacher. I kept wanting things to click and for his offenses to start producing but it just never happened...I'm cautiously optimistic that the new staff will get much better results in short order
For his first season and part of the second I thought he would turn out to be a good hire. I feel a fool for defending him for as long as I did. To be fair, I still think he has a brilliant football mind, he just doesn't have the ability to translate that to on the field performance largely due to the fact that his plans were overly complex for college football.

No, not science.
On one end of the EE parking lot, the gate was closed for an hour, but after that hour they just opened the gate with nobody directing any traffic. Nobody was moving. Drivers couldn't really get out onto the Hwy 11 because there was already a good traffic flow there. I ended up abandoning it and driving to a different gate, and drove by the original gate which still had the same drivers there, stuck.
Would be better to just not let people out that gate if they're not going to monitor and control it, as there were just a bunch of stressed out drivers there who wanted to leave and didn't know why nothing was moving there when other gates were open, and all the cars in that section were all pointed towards that particular gate.
EDIT: I should add, though, that the traffic was moving extremely well where they had staff members directing it. It was just the one location/section without staff directing it that was a complete disaster.
the way we played against UT even with 5 fumbles is encouraging. If we can cut our fumbles in half I think we actually stand a pretty good chance of winning a lot of games with Bud Foster's defense.

I've never thought about that. I will staunchly refuse to believe that any team losing the football is just saying, "Oh well, screw it."
I can't recall the exact year, but I remember a season where the Hokies lost the opening coin toss for like, literally every game. I wonder if Norm asked Coach Beamer if that had to do with lack of effort.
Fumble allowance?
One thing is for sure. They've used up more than their allotment of fumbles for the entire year in the first two games.
So it sure deserves a bit of focus this week.

The next 4 games were going to be important for us regardless of the result against UT for this season, and ultimately in my mind national relevance. If we win our next 4, we head into nationally televised showdown with Miami at 5-1 (3-0) and in the drivers seat to win the division, giving us another chance to show people we can actually play.
My point is if we had won in Bristol and go 2-2 or even 3-1 in the following month, we're back where we were after OSU in 2014 (a nice win but not going to have an impact nationally). All those teams you listed as now being relevant have won their conference or at the very least won their division (and i think most people are waiting Iowa and UNC to repeat before giving them respect/relevance).
