I do agree that there are better candidates in the pool, but these days I don't think conferences care as much about schools being close geographically. I think it can actually be the opposite because conferences want to capitalize on new TV markets. North Carolina is the 9th most populous state, so I thought ECU had a decent chance there. ECU also has the second biggest stadium outside of the Power 5. I was personally rooting for them because that would have given us an annual Big 12 matchup for the rest of eternity.

They had their Athletic Director and President come out publicly through press conferences and releases, as well as utilizing their social media presence to essentially beg for entry.
So yeah... I don't blame the Big 12 for publicly shaming them in kind.

More odd they are 1st rejected, whereas UCONN, Colorado State, Northern Illinois and Arkansas State haven't been publicly rejected that I can find.

Ignore the fact that the Big 12 doesn't want them, if you listen to their extremely vocal and in your face fans, they're an absolute shoe-in for the SEC and really, its better that the Big 12 passed anyway, because this just makes that an absolute certainty. Or, and this one is arguably even more laughable, they're going to be in the ACC. Period, they're going to be in there. They'll be able to get UNC, NCSU, Wake, and Duke to cave to their will like the Commonwealth got UVa to cave for VT. Ignore the fact that there is unanimous opinion within the conference that the ACC was already too NC-centric, and any proposal to add another NC school (and UNC-system school) would be met with unanimous opposition, but there's not even any desire from any of the current NC schools to have ECU in here.
They're boned. They're on the permanent outside looking in. The Big 12 was their only shot and they lost out. Sucks for them, but there were always going to be winners and losers in the Conference expansion and consolidation of Power schools. VT is coming out a winner. ECU, a loser. Sucks, but what are ya gonna do.
As I woke up this morning and put on my 2009 Peach bowl shirt to get ready for the upcoming season, I thought to myself - I hope we get a Foe Rensics - I love those things!!! Get to the office and make a quick check, and BOOM!!!!! The season is off to a great start!!!!! Thank you!!!!!! (and I can see why you enjoy unlimited exclamation points!)

This isn't about Stranger Things, but I figured since this is a thread on a TV show it wasn't too off topic. Has anyone seen the previews for the new HBO show Westworld? I had no idea what it was when I saw the first preview so I googled it. Seems like it could be pretty good. A mix of Jurassic Park (sans Dinos) and Deadwood. Certainly intrigued.
The fact that we played them within two touchdowns a few years back looks even better when you look at their star ratings
