Hokies had NO depth at wide receiver, running back and QB for the past 4 years. Of course Beamer played young guys. There was NOBODY else.
That video was horrible. I could barely hear and whoever was holding the camera had the shakes or something.
Anyone got a transcript?
Oh, I would say the opposite. I would extend the upper tier to 17 with Clemson. Those teams between 10 and 17 are fantastic.
I would prefer the top 6 thru USC, then the next tier through Clemson.
well...this kind of undermines the little project I was working on. No matter. This turned out better than anything I would have come up with. Great stats!
I had already determined TOP was a garbage stat. I'm looking at punts/drive and 3-and-outs/drive as well. VT basically averaged about 12 possessions per game. I think Memphis' average (which I haven't finalized) is closer to 13 or 14 possessions/game. The astounding figure is that VT went 3-and-out something close to 21% of their possessions. Memphis is closer to 9% I think. VT's average 3-and-out drive was around 1 min and 30 seconds. So TOP is worthless and people who are worried about our defense getting tired from the fast paced offense not giving our defense enough of a break shouldn't be worried.
EDIT:
Memphis Drives/Game - 13.25
VT Drives/Game - 13
Memphis 3-and-out% - 14%
VT 3-and-out% - 23%
Memphis 3-and-out avg drive time - 0:53
VT 3-and-out avg drive time - 1:31
Memphis Punt % - 32%
VT Punt % - 41%
Memphis PPP - 0.49
VT PPP - 0.35
Memphis PPD - 3.01
VT PPD - 1.92
John Heisman? The Cumberland beat down? A National title? Only school to ever up and leave the SEC?
Sure, justifiable.
Delends on the age of the writer(s). I was born in 1990. For some/most of them, those are the good old days upon which they look back fondly.
Arkansas beget Jerry Jones who beget the biggest damn video screen ever. They got that at least.
(I thought they won a NC back then)
Georgia Tech is not a better program than us. Period.
I think you're kind of splitting hairs a little comparing PPP to PPD. It's just another level of detail, really. PPG is really rough, PPD is more accurate, PPP is most accurate.
But I think PPD is easiest to normalize. If you're trying to predict how two teams will do against each other and there is no history between them PPD will give you the best idea, IMO, of what to expect because almost every game will have about the same number of drives for each team. Different games won't necessarily have the same number of plays. For instance, VT might average 60 plays per game where Memphis might average 80 plays per game. But if the two teams played each other you wouldn't know how many plays each team would have but you could guess that they would each get about 12-14 possessions. If you know roughly what a team scores per possession you don't need to know how many plays they might run to predict scores.
in 2015 VT had a PPP of 0.35 and a PPD of 1.92
in 2015 Mem had a PPP of 0.49 and a PPD of 3.01
Assuming 13 possessions for each team I would predict a final score of Mem - 40, VT - 25
I wouldn't be able to come up with that projection based on PPP...but PPP would tell me that I could expect Memphis to win...I just don't know by what margin
There were a couple things like that mentioned. Interested to see who's actually gonna play the first few weeks, even only on special teams (and yes, it matters. Ask Bama from 2013).
Disappointing.
Teller needs to get it going. I like that the staff is giving opportunities to hard working kids.
Side note: it sounds like Marshawn is suspended the first two games.
A good reason to post this story about Evans family again from the Dallas newspaper.
Super likeable kid and family. It's worth your 4 mins to read this.
Frosty and not jittery would be ideal. Want your QB to be pushed to his potential, but not looking over his shoulder so much he forgets to actually go out and make plays.
TSL had an interesting bit about Shegog as the whip today, and in it CC mentioned he's just the victim of bad timing. Not something I've thought about much, but the point was raised that the '99 Hokies team would have handled either the '98 or 2000 champ, but just had the misfortune to be good just in time to run into the buzzsaw that was the 1999 FSU Seminoles. It'd be interesting to see where we'd be (in so many ways) if that FSU team had been a year ahead or behind.
Ranking blue bloods past around 10 is pointless. At that point they aren't really blue bloods.
I was imagining all of the beeps as bleeps. Droids can be rather foul mouthed.
Glad a decision was made, but I am guessing he will be looking over both shoulders with how close this went to the wire. Hopefully it keeps him frosty...
Or if Evans goes out for a drive to two, Motley would play, but if a multi-game thing Jackson would go. Could be motivational, but I doubt it. You need your to be ready to go at the drop of a flag. Or he was so focused on a started the first time he thought about the back-up start was when asked the question, so he just stalled.
Probably a situation where both guys are ready to be #2. If Evans is injured long-term against Liberty (think Brewer last year), in goes JJ. If Evans stubs his toe or loses his helmet, or gets injured late in the year and we're out of the conference race, Motley it is.
29 is about right. I would prefer to think of us as low 20's but no complaints.
Wait a minute, talent over seniority, 1 vs 2 QBs, AND no TEs? A different era indeed.

I mail them on Saturdays. However, while putting together this weekend's shipment I realized I ran out of keychain bottle openers. I do apologize. More are in production, and the final product is well worth the wait.

Redshirts for talented QBs is a thing of the past.
