After thinking about this more, I tend to believe it. We can beat UT, then we have back-to-back home games with BC and ECU. These teams have been major trouble for us the last few years. Lefty's Revenge and Pirates!

We could easily be 2-2 with 2 home losses. Sounds rough but I could see a letdown or injury bug creep in after a big Bristol win.

That could require 6 to 7 conference wins. That is a tall order while breaking in a new starting QB running a new scheme.

Speaking of which, who was it that gave us the #1 vote for just about the entire '99 season? I bet that guy was feeling like a genius.

On a related note, holy shit is that going to be an awesome first weekend of the season. In addition to #EnFuente's debut, we've got:

Oklahoma vs. Houston (@NRG)
LSU vs. Wisconsin (@Lambeau!)
Georgia vs. UNCheat (@GA Dome)
USCw vs. Alabama (@Jerry World)
Clemson @ Auburn
Notre Dame @ Texas
Ole Miss vs. F$U

There are six teams in the top 10 that could easily have their first loss of the year, never mind the Vols going down in week 2. It's going to be tough to make it back to work on Tuesday. Oh, and GO SPIDERS!!

Coaches need time to get their guys when there is little talent after a coach is fired.

Frank retired, and we are a team that went 7-6.

I'm not saying we're going 15-0, but if we go 6-6 I will be somewhat disappointed. 7-5 I'd be content, and then I would be very happy with 8 wins or more. This team has talent, it just wasn't being coached very well last season. Plain and simple.

The defense will improve a lot too.

I have my eyes set on 8

It's alright: here are my score predictions for the season

VT 100 - Liberty 0
VT 28 - Tennessee 0
VT 35 - BC 0
VT 42 - ECU 0
VT 28 - UNC 0
VT 49 - Syracuse 0
VT 21 - Miami 0
VT 24 - Pitt 0
VT 28 - Duke 0
VT 35 - GT 0
VT 21 - ND 0
VT 1000000 - UVA 0

sorry, what happened... I blacked out...

Good, we shouldn't be ranked. Maybe no votes is a little excessive, but they don't matter at all anyways. Overall I feel expectations are too high on this site. We have one hell of a schedule this season and every game besides Liberty is losable (all games are winnable). I don't think we should be too disappointed if we end up with a 6-6 or 7-5 season. Fuente's going to need time to get in his guys

Thoughts? Well, we're simply not in a position to complain. Any respect we get will be because we EARNED that respect. The reputation will need to be rebuilt, but that's not entirely a bad thing.

Boy would I love to see VT beat Tennessee at the Battle of Bristol, though.

By air it's only 1:15, looks like Southwest has multiple daily nonstops for around $100. I just priced a hypothetical itinerary from NoVA as if the game were this year, and the entire package (IAD-LAS, LAS-TUS, TUS-IAD) can be had for under $500 if you're willing to live with an early flight or two. No clue what will or won't exist in 2029, of course...

God it would be amazing to be on the other end of a huge letdown at the beginning of what looks like a promising season after all the preseason hype

High five for the analysis :D I don't follow fencing too closely, especially since I haven't picked up any of my blades in a couple of years, but I've always had a soft spot for the first woman to ever win Olympic gold in sabre! (It's only been an event since 2004, for those who don't know)
