I'm going to have to re-watch that about three more times before I absorb it all.

Spot on agreement. Put Suggs at #1 simply because you must be pretty damn good when you hold not the school, not the conference, but the National record for running back touchdowns in a season at the time. We used to recruit earth movers for offensive line (there was no twinkle toe foot movement theory for spread offensive linemen then), so I also agree that Kevin Jones or David Wilson or Ryan Williams might have actually been better than Suggs if they had a little better offensive line blocking for them. At that time (Suggs), we had a power I offensive identity that just ran over many teams and defied them to do anything about it (which is still Alabama's philosophy even now, it's just easier to make it work with top talent). Bear Bryant said something to the effect "when you pass the ball two of the three things that can happen are bad", so they ran the ball until they were forced to pass (which wasn't often). I personally refer to this as the "Neanderthal" era of football, your offensive line either went big or went home. This long era was only briefly interrupted by something of interest from Oklahoma called the triple option (insert Georgia Tech joke here). Thank God for spread offenses ... It's made the game so much more exciting.
