They're all over the spectrum. Great college town though and would be well worth the visit. I would highly recommend the trip down there if we ever play them.
I don't think anyone would argue Wilson was more athletic than Suggs, but ranking someone's natural talent or athleticism isn't the same as ranking their ability at a position. Certainly there is a correlation-- the more athletic you are, the higher your ceiling is for performance. But there are all kinds of examples throughout sports of guys "doing more with less". Taking another example, Marcus Vick was far more talented and athletic than Bryan Randall, but I doubt many people would rank him as a better QB (in fact, he wasn't even included on the voting list).
I think this is the best we're going to get.

Ox was awesome his first 2 years then seemed to inexplicably lose speed as a Junior and Senior.
What an important recruit he was for VT.
In the fall of '92 I ran into both Vaughn and Dwayne Thomas in Squires while (I believe) registering for classes. I knew of Vaughn already and I recall him saying that Dwayne was going to be just as good by the time he was done at VT. Thinking back to that timeframe, I have to mention that it was a shame we never got to see two more running back fulfill their potential due to issues. I played against both "Touchdown" Tommy Edwards (Radford) and Marcus Parker (Salem) in high school. Tommy had it all...he was the strongest guy on the field, as well as being the fastest guy on the field in just about every game in played in. Marcus Parker, though, was probably the best high school running back I ever saw when we played Salem in his Soph. year. By the time he got to VT, though, he had went though a significant injury late in his high school career (knee? ACL? I can't remember) that slowed him down. He was still good enough to contribute to the team and even made it to the NFL when he was drafted as a fullback for the Bengals.

I agree. Wilson is my overall favorite players but wouldn't rate him above Suggs in a list of RB rankings. I went Suggs, Wilson, Jones, Williams, Ox, Evans.
Suggs didn't have the best 40 time but he was a smart runner and FAR & AWAY the best short yardage RB we've had. He was virtually unstoppable on those plays. I love DWil (my favorite Tech player to date), but I wouldn't rank him above Suggs as a better RB. DWil was a really exciting player to watch, but let's not kid ourselves- he was not very good at all on tough, short yardage plays. Never have I ever seen a player run so quickly in the opposite direction of his own endzone as Wilson did against Michigan.

The RB results surprised me a little. While I certainly voted for him, I was not expecting to see Ken Oxendine holding on the #6 spot in the poll. I'm surprised that enough Hokies who took the poll remember the Diesel.
I'm also a bit surprised to see Vaughn Hebron, one of the few RBs on the list who had much of an NFL career, and got 2 Super Bowl rings in the process, polling so poorly. But then again, even I'm not old enough to remember him in a Hokie uniform.
Me too. I think the fact that he's trailing Darren Evans (only slightly, though) shows a bit of recency bias and/or youth in the poll respondents. I mean no disrespect to DE, of whom I'm also a fan, but Oxendine was an absolute beast back in the mid-90s.

We still had the ability to win that game. It was a possibility for us to get an additional win because we played the game.
We did NOT have the ability to win the extra game from an ACCCG because there was no such thing prior to it being created.

As part of the reason that it went into the rabbit hole I feel obligated to say that I always did predictions based on the games you know are scheduled going into the season. You count the total number of wins at the end of the season but predict off of what you have scheduled if that makes sense. Last thread got out of hand because no one was clear what 8 wins meant haha
The way I justify the official standings is that by all rights, we should have lost that bowl game the following year against Rutgers, so we're still 1-1 over those two years regardless.
Although winning the last couple of years have really skewed the record back to the good side. I just remember getting a t-shirt with a list of all of our bowls (I think it was before one of the Orange Bowls), and most of them were losses.
