I actually disagree. I think Arya planned to be caught by the Waif. By allowing herself to get caught, she could then play the role of the crippled fawn, giving the Waif a false sense of superiority and security, luring her to a place Arya knew she would have the upper hand, which just so happened to be a trap she laid prior to throwing around said coin.
But what about the actress, you may ask. Arya's incompetence got her killed.... Actually, I think this was part of the plan. By getting the actress killed, Arya fulfills her contract with the Faceless Men, while also putting into motion the final chapter of her trap. Considering Arya's visible lack of injury at the end, it can definitely be assumed this was all part of the overall plan, which, if this is the case, makes Arya one of the most powerful forces remaining in the game, which I believe to be the case.
Bibbs is a pure 3. He isn't great with the ball, but he can put it on the ground and get to the basket if he has to. I know everyone loves Clarke because he's obviously insanely athletic, but he's as raw as an ACC basketball player can be. Once he gets the ball he looks completely lost. We'll see how much he progresses with a full offseason, but I'm willing to bet it'll be his Junior year before he's somebody we can trust.
The more I think about it, the more I think it was an elaborate trap set by Arya to kill the Waif. Remember earlier this season when Arya was reciting her list, and at the end the Waif asked if there was anyone else? Arya replied "what name would you have me say" or something to that effect. Many thought this was Arya now taking on the responsibility of the Faceless Men, but as I said at the time, that was Arya putting the Waif on the list, essentially saying "how do you want me to say your name". Essentially everything from that point on was setting the trap for the Waif. I mean, lets be honest, Arya knew exactly what she was doing when she started throwing coin around the docks, and this was after she had already recovered Needle, put it in a dim cave lit only by a single candle. The trap was laid, and all she had to do was lure the Waif out. And after it all, instead of punishing her again by taking her sight or anything else, Jaquen practically says her training is complete. The Waif was always going to be the final test, probably because the Faceless Men realized she really couldn't be trusted.
Arya is now an expertly trained assassin who is about to be unleashed into Westeros working for her family at a time when they're gathering troops to take back Winterfell from the Boltons. I'm going to assume this is going to play out very interestingly the next couple episodes.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time reconciling what happened. It may have been a little bit of thematic license to just let Arya survive and somehow endure the stabbing, but I think overall the point was that Arya was trying to set up a trap for the waif, but she's not as clever as the thinks she is. She was openly walking around Braavos, making her presence known, while the Faceless Men were obviously after her, so I think she was trying to draw the waif out. But then she lapsed and the waif actually got her, rather than Arya's intention of leading her on a chase at that moment.
Okay, let's return to the top of this thread. I stated 1) ACCCG, 2) Beat ND or UT, 3) recruits, 4) Beat UVA. I'm not arguing for a 2-10 season. We will need significantly more wins to get to an ACCCG. You're picking on the point that I mentioned last, and making it your primary argument. Let's return to step 1 and go from there.
It was nice to see Jalen at Benny's while I was there for a graduation last month, and spend some telling him how appreciative we were. It was also cool seeing Allen and Robinson hanging out together, although they were begging me for my slice of pizza.

yeah you're completely missing the point. Paxton Lynch wouldn't have even touched "middle of the pack in terms of acc play" in his first year. You're foolish if you think Fuente is going to turn a first year starting QB into a super star during summer camp. Whoever wins the starting QB job is going to struggle in their first year. I expect to see improvement over the course of the year and by the end of the season we MIGHT have a middle of the pack caliber QB. But it's not going to happen over night.

A Michigan Fan went to the one they had in the Houston area recently and did a solid breakdown of the day I think is worth the read. I don't really agree with the assertion that no kids are breaking through to be noticed at the camps, maybe for a S-Tier school like Big Blue, but there is always meat left on the bone for everyone, a that is a strong space VT can enter again. If you can see the kids coachability is super high even if he is rough, it colors how you watch his film and how you view his upside.
I do think he makes a spot on point right after though. Most recruits will be comfortable on some level with going to the closest "power" program. The camps then can do a lot to make that jump to going 100's of miles away more comfortable. Even getting them to visit campus becomes easier, because they have had that personal interaction with the coach. It isn't a voice on the phone asking, its the guy who helped your footwork or improved your swim move.
but beating uva and going 2-10 means more?
see, what irks me about this argument is that it's not an apples-apples comparison.
You need to compare going 2-10 and beating UVA vs going 2-10 and losing to UVA. I would MUCH rather go 2-10 and beat UVA than go 2-10 with a loss to them.
Certainly I would prefer to go 10-2 than 2-10 but that's not what we're talking about here. I would consider 2-10 to be a significant step backwards, which I'm arguing is more important to avoid. To me, losing to UVA is symbolic of a step backwards (or, a monumental leap forwards for them) whereas beating Tenn/ND would be a pretty big step forward for us. No body expects us to beat those two teams. Everybody (even most of UVA) expects us to beat UVA. If we lose games we're supposed to they're not as egregious as losing games we're supposed to win. In Fuente's first year, especially going against another first year coach at UVA, it is more important not to go backwards than it is to go forwards. Beat UVA. That should be near the top of his list of goals for the season. Beating Tenn/ND would be a nice bonus but it won't shake his foundation the way losing to the instate rival with a new coach would. If Bronco wins the first match-up that will breathe new life into the UVA program and make Fuente's building job more difficult. Losing to Tenn/ND are essentially insignificant occurrences in that regard.
Do I want to beat Tenn/ND? HELL YES I DO!!! Do I think it's more important in Fuente's first year to beat them than UVA? Absolutely not. Year 3? Maybe. By then, UVA might actually be respectable, hopefully Fuente will have established himself in his new position, and we should be ready for that next step. At that point I believe it could be argued that beating the big dogs becomes more important. But we're just not at that point yet. Stop the ship from sinking before trying to win the race.
In year one beating UVA is in line with shoring up the leaks and stopping the ship from sinking. Year 3 we can focus on beating the big dogs and winning the race.
pretty messed up if it was a trap, but then again I guess she saved the actresses life already. she seemed legitimately hurt, but if not and that was really acting she's going to be a game changer.
not expecting a first round pick. expecting something better than middle of the pack in terms of acc play. we also have more talent in terms of skill positions than any of the QBs we've had recently.
Paxton Lynch's first year wasn't all rainbows and gum drops either. It takes TIME to develop talent, especially at the QB position. I would not expect big things out of the QB in year one. That is a foolish expectation IMO
but beating uva and going 2-10 means more? Tenn is also at the beginning of the year which you could hopefully capitalize on the recruiting trail early and often.
again what has our win streak over uva gotten us? Have we dominated in state recruiting because of it? Last I checked it doesn't appear to have helped with much other than us being able to make fun of UVA even more.
Nigel and woody have both started. nigel started the whole year maddy was out. Definitely agree with LBs being a question mark and I don't think the secondary will be very good, but how they look is largely dependent on how the DL performs anyways.
we haven't had a qb for 4 years. Guy is supposed to be a qb guru he has talent to work with.
When I saw him tweet this, I seriously considered driving to Atlanta to play kickball with him. Unfortunately, I work until 5:30 and Atlanta is 2 hours away from my office.
Read a few articles on the Daley thing. He got it first because his mom is in the hospital with cancer. She told him she just wanted to see him raise the Cup. Sid remembered that in the moment and told Daley that he would get the Cup first.
I am happy that we have our future goalie in place, but I still think he is just the future. We won the Cup with him, but a healthy Flower probably wins the Cup with this team too. Murray is still a year or two from being consistent enough to play 50+ games in the regular season. He just has some plays that make you realize how young he is; a little tentative to come out and sweep one away, or fighting through screens to find the puck (Game 5 wasn't his best). I loved how he responded after losses, but I still think Fleury is our starter next year with a 60-40 split.
He didn't inherit a dumpster fire but I think decent experience is a strong description. There's currently no QB, a total of 4 skill position players that have proven production, and 4/5 on a line that was below average last season. We're replacing 3 starters on a defensive line that struggled last season. Linebackers are a question mark. The back end should be good again but will Fayscon be healthy? I think the potential is there for 8 wins but I'm not going to bet my house on it. Games against Tenn, ND, UNC, Pitt away from home are games we are sure under dogs in. We won't be big favorites over GT, Miami, Duke, or BC. Syracuse is installing an offense that took Bud's lunch money in the bowl game. I can look at the schedule and see anything from 5-7 to 9-3 and see how you could make a case for it. I personally think 6-6 and 7-5 are the two most likely outcomes but wouldn't criticize a 5-7 year if the breaks (i.e. horrible fumble luck, injuries, etc.) don't go our way
