I don't think you can compare any coaching transition to that one. Penn State fans essentially deified Paterno. I have never seen anything like it and hope I never do again.
We're going to make the Wahoos pay for it.
Ahh. I did not pay enough attention, I see. I thought he was inviting all those schools to one big camp.
I'm pretty conflicted over this. On the one hand I always really appreciated how cost conscious supporting Virginia Tech athletics could be. With a $100 donation and pretty reasonably priced season tickets, my wife and I could make it to every game and support the team. I kind of took pride in that in comparison to family members belonging to blue-blood schools who donated insane amounts of money for over a decade just for a shot at season tickets. That model seemed exclusionary, and we pride ourselves on being anything but. At the same time, to attain the kind of success we want, and really just to continue being a program that isn't losing money something had to change.
On one hand, I think I see where we're going with this. There were wrinkles that needed to be worked out, ie. the best seats going to people who weren't donating. The focus on cumulative giving to accrue points was long overdue. There's now a legitimate reason to give to the HokieClub even when you don't plan on buying season tickets, as you can be gathering points for the future.
What I think is a big mistake is how high the minimum seat levels got so quickly. This should have been tapered in, and are probably too high ultimately. My main problem with this model, I think, is that while it's what works for the most successful schools, it doesn't seem tailored to what Virginia Tech really is. The upper crust at those blue bloods are doctors and lawyers and politicians. Our upper crust is engineers and scientists and in agriculture. There's not a lot of Hokies I know (maybe I'm projecting here) interested in throwing around huge amounts of money for exclusive access. There are COUNTLESS Hokies with immense pride in their school and their team.
Ultimately, I see these changes as a necessary step in the right direction that may have gone too far. A more fitting model for this school would be one that tries to engage every member of Hokie Nation first and foremost, whether they can give $10,000 or $50. Whether they can make it to every game, want to start contributing for the future, or just want to support the school and team they love. One that ultimately rewards loyalty, people doing what they can over long periods of time, as much as splashing around with a lot of money at once. I think we all want to see our team be as successful as possible, but just like how our football team didn't reach the levels it has by playing by other people's rules, I think our fundraising needs to work with a similar level of innovation and dedication to the values of it's alumni base.
(sheesh, way more soap-boxy then I intended,)
You had me at
I'm involved offensively, involved in planning and the scheme and direction.
But... but those are the crappy seats where nobody wants to sit!
I mean seriously, if you want to be treated like a high dollar donor and get those premier seats that a high dollar donor gets with the experience that comes with that, then its time to become a high dollar donor. And if you can't... well... Welcome to the world of big boy college athletics.
That's the thing there are whole sections with ZERO dollar required donations under the new plan.
they're essentially becoming a symbol of the downward trajectory
you might be right here. I still think that if we win 12 games this season we need to change the uniforms to get rid of the stripes. Or change the stripes so it looks like they were part of the original design for the uniforms. They just look so forced. The uniform design just doesn't seem tied together at all with them. It's, as Joe so accurately stated, disjointed.
these might be my favorite jerseys
I mean, for the cheapest seats we have with the forced donation comes out to less than $10 per ticket per home game. If this is enough to break the bank for you to come to a game, then you maybe really couldn't afford season tickets to begin with. And if you're talking about tickets in a section that has the $600 or $800 per ticket requirement, and that's too much, perhaps its time to consider getting tickets that make more financial sense for you.
I think there would have been a lot less squabbling by alumni if they had put the seat tier at $500 instead of $600. That would have allowed people to give the same and keep their tickets for the most part.
I think the big thing they needed to fix was the $100,000 and no more donations or even paying for tickets??? I can see potentially skipping the required donation, but they should have at least had to pay for tickets.
It is, but I view sacrificing Needle as a conscious choice that can be made but does speak to her larger apprehension of losing herself. Whether or not Arya can dissociate herself from intrinsic magical abilities is another matter entirely.
This thread just makes me feel old and sad. All of these kids are as young as my youngest... with the exception of the 2018 grad; he's even younger.

Dude has some hella strong photoshop game.
Having seen what was done, with the open field and the players who wanted to stay hanging around instead of everyone going to the locker room and then having to come back on the field, I retract the above. It was well done and made for a good fan experience.
I'll never tell someone how to budget their money. But it can't be the case that all the VT fans don't have money. They pay to come to the games, tailgate, etc etc. even if a fan can't make it to games why can't they drop 100 on the Hokie Club to be part of the movement forward? That's 8.34 a month.
I've got a feeling one of the important parts for Fuente's plan to work will be sending the invites tothe players and not their coaches. Some coaches might not like this approach. But if it's handled correctly, Fuente and co. can have multiple small camps to see just about as many players and never leave anyone out. I think they'll probably organize it regionally and not by their interest in certain players so some of the guys who might have been told they couldn't come will be there and then the next camp will have a different region attending the camp.
I don't mind them at all... but at this point, they're essentially becoming a symbol of the downward trajectory at the end of the Beamer era. From now on, when you see one of these uniforms you're going to correlate them with a disappointing season. We need to get away from that as soon as we can.
It just occurred to me that we analyze color/uniform combos in the same way French analyzes football plays and schemes. Never change you beautiful bastards.
6'7" 345lb 3* 18th player in VA and 67th OT
6'5" 280lbs 3* 70th TE
These don't make any sense. Maybe that means everyone will forget about them and we can get them both...and make them our quarterbacks

Looks maroon and white to me
Yeah I was watching that thread play out.
It is frustrating to see how large a fanbase we truly have, only to see how frugal we are into providing the support needed to reach our potential. If we're not going to have people willingly give money to the HC and yet still take in all the benefits of the events the HC supports, then I don't blame those in charge from making them do it. Our fans have had it far too good for far too long and its about damn time we started footing the bill for the services we're provided.

Closeup of the other shirt shows a blend of maroon and grey.

I think this is the smartest way to do it. Target a few HS at a time so you know the max number ahead of time and work from there. You could actually use it to strengthen relationships with HS coaches since you will get to spend more time on the clinic part with the kids since there will be fewer of them.
