It's a lot of money, but not necessarily an overpayment if that's what the market dictates.
Washington was the market. They were the only ones willing to give him the money he wanted. I heard New Orleans was also in the running, but the price point wasn't what Washington was offering. They were truly setting the market on his price. I hardly call that proof that his price is what the market dictated, especially when he signed with a franchise notorious for doling out inflated contracts.
And while he was helped by being behind a great front 7, our front 7 was similarly nullified by not having a decent secondary. We've got a wealth of pass rushers, but without an upgrade in the secondary they were going to go to waste for a second consecutive season.
The Washington defense last year was 28th in getting pressure on opposing QBs. You don't have those kind of results with 'a wealth of pass rushers'.
Without Norman, I doubt we have a shot at the playoffs this year. Schedule is too hard and we face too many elite receivers. This signing very likely pushes us over the edge to be a serious playoff contender,
Oh boy... if you honestly think he's going to make that much of a difference, you might as well start drinking now. Seriously, the times he struggled the worst last year was when he was lined up man for man against a #1 receiver. More times than not, he was flat out torched, especially against elite WRs. OBJ and Julio Jones lit him up last year in the games when he went up against a #1 with a competent QB to throw to him (not counting the game against Dallas, because the Panthers knocked out Romo early, and the front 7 pinned their ears back after taking the WRs out of the game).
Look, as I said, I don't doubt he makes the defense better, but he's not going to be the difference between the defense you had last year and a great defense. And yet he's being paid like a guy who is going to do just that.
He is a 3 tech one gap defensive tackle. Yes, he is big and can eat blocks. But, his talent and his desire is focused on being a playmaking kid who can dominate, not just eat blocks.
Did Bosa fail a drug test? That might be the difference. They're also coached by Urban Meyer so laws don't really apply.
I think 1st offenses are deferred suspensions since 2010-2011. I tried looking it up on VT's student conduct page but they have "it depends" on the punishments.
This! If you can follow all the additional rules thrown on you when you join the football team, you can follow the rules that apply to everyone in the state.
Oh ffs. Come on guys.
Virginia Tech is much more harsh on weed possession than Ohio State.
I don't know what everyone is talking about UVa football players always go to a bowl. Sometimes multiple times a day if they eat at Moe's.
Don't they have to be enrolled in classes to be here for football?
What happened to the helmets that didn't get any bids? Was hoping to see a 2nd round of auctions for those at a lower price.
Consider this a small sample, if I had to bet, they are certainly not the only ones on the team that have done this. Hopefully its a gut check to them and the players below them who may need to step up.
Per VT's policy that I found online, drug possession "will likely result in suspension or dismissal from the university for a first offense"β Chris Coleman (@ChrisColemanTSL) April 26, 2016
If it happens on-campus, first timers generally get a semester suspension. Not sure specifics of this one. https://t.co/6hUChuS47Iβ Doug Bowman (@HHDougB) April 26, 2016
You may not want to hear "just decriminalize it," but what's the purpose of the law. I'm not disappointed or upset with either Alexander or Gaines. I'm disappointed that we live in a system that can ruin people's lives based on something so silly and trivial. I'm disappointed that many legislatures would rather create more laws to criminalize other trivial behavior, rather than fully assess the current criminal system. I'm disappointed that VT has to indefinitely suspend two young men from the football team and potentially suspend them from their education for something so meaningless.
It's a problem with the system, not the players.
Note: This is not trying to be political, but truly assessing a legal situation of the players. Please do not suggest that this comment is based in politics, but rather this comment is based on founding principles of legality and consequences thereof.
BYU, under his watch, was regarded as one of the dirtiest programs in FCS.
BYU is and has always been FBS. You're confusing Mendenhall's old job with his current one.
...unless it has to do with criminal charges.
Thanks for that Gaines and Alexander.
Side note: This is Fuente's first incident with his players not following the "laws"/ team rules. If he wants to set a precedent and be viewed as a good leader he will use this to set the tone for all the players to see and you know the Hokie Nation will be watching and comparing his actions to the past.
(NO FOLKS-TIM SETTLE IS NOT A NOSE GUARD EVEN THOUGH HE IS A BIG KID. You will hear this a bunch from me.)
of course not - he's a punt returner /s
What! Journell got arrested and caught with weed. I don't remember him missing any seasons? Am I wrong on this? I was relieved when I saw it was weed, I figured whatever. See y'all in the fall? Is this not so? Someone HELP!!!!!??
Bosa only had a one game suspension for this last year and that was self-imposed. Is there really a standard in college football?
Agree with following the law but it really needs to be legalized. In this context they totally deserve the suspension for breaking the law. But in the grand scheme the law is flawed in my opinion.
Dumb, just dumb. You're a college athlete, with the world at your feet, you've got to make better choices. Hopefully they learn from this and are allowed to continue their athletic careers. As a Hokie, I wish them the best and hope that they can rejoin the team at some point. As a fan of the football team, it's next man up. Until (if) they are reinstated, they're not on the team and the team has to keep moving forward.
It's illegal until they change it. Therefore follow the rules.
Absolutely disappointed in them both. This is always my argument when something like this happens. Just don't smoke it or possess it. Is it a stupid law? Probably. Is weed an overly dangerous drug? No. However, it is against the law so just stay away from it unless it is legalized.

For the fall, sure.
For the summer? Not certain. Someone else can confirm or deny.
