I lived in the area for 26+ years and subscribed to the Roanoke Times the entire time I lived there. While I was generally a fan of the paper, there is no doubt that the sports section was neutral at best, negative at worse in its coverage of VT sports. From Brill to Bogaczck (sp?), they just didn't like us and made no bones about it. When we started winning, things started changing as the locals wanted more of VT, and the RT slowly came around, much to the vocal dismay of the fans of loluva and other non-local teams. I now live a good ways away, but I do read some of the RT almost every day, keeping up with where I lived and VT sports stuff. Andy Bitter covers football in an interesting and non-biased manner, and I enjoy his articles. I also read Aaron McFarling often, and I value the information and humor I get from them. I'll even read a Berman (I know, I know) thing once in a while. Like you, though, I also think the $17 tag is too much for what I get, even if I could afford it easily. I guess one day I'll have to think about the issue of getting something for nothing, but if I cave to thinking I'm doing wrong, the RT won't be any richer for it. I'll just do my 16 freebies and tune in again next month.

Maybe look at what he started with? How about some of the win's they've had over the years (at least four wins against Top 25 off the top of my head)?

The one thing to me that is going to separate Brooks from Wolfe is that he seems more nurturing. Wolfe should have stayed on the men's side of things, but I can't blame him from getting out from under Greenberg. Considering a lot of the bashing he is getting are from people that never went to a women's game or have any support for the women's team, it's no wonder he called people out.

Great post. Reminded me that I still have a chunk of the Berlin Wall that a friend who was there when it fell brought back for us.

You have to have 100 legs before 100K. By the way, I could use a couple to get to the century mark.
Leonard--Master of TKP would look good on your resume'.

My guess: Women's BB will get hammered. Football will get a little (one year post season ban, 4 or 5 scholarships lost). Mens BB will get next to nothing. Just a joke.

They'll say "Roy wasn't aware of it". 20+ years, 1500+ athletes...he should of known. Think he went to the Petino school of denial. He's a joke.

NCAA is a joke. If they don't hammer UNCheat, they should immediately disband.

Further UNC should loose their accreditation...but they won't.

It's an interesting book, but as someone who just entered the professional world within the past 5 years, it's crazy how different the landscape is now, compared to then. Circuit City (a good to great company) is no longer around. The book has not one mention of Apple products - crazy given that the iPhone is arguable the most revolutionary item to be created in the past 30 years.

Anyways... sorry for bringing us off topic

Perrantes has a place in the NBA, but it's a small niche. He'd be a perfect complement for a high usage 2 guard or wing (i.e. James Harden) - you need a PG who's unselfish, a good spot up 3-point shooter and someone who is a willing defender? Perrantes is your guy.

Now, I have questions about whether he has the athleticism to guard PGs in the NBA, but there are roles for him in the league.
