don't know if you're heading back via 26 but Stoney Knob Cafe in Weaverville has great food at a reasonable price and the place has an interesting atmosphere. I used to live just up the road and I loved taking people there for brunch when they visited. If you're heading out of Asheville that way I would say it's definitely worth stopping there to fuel up your gut before heading over the mountains.

I agree with the last piece there. We will run tempo but if we are effective, I think we will have longer drives in the end. Fuente has stated many times he wants to run the ball and he likes the quick hitter passes. If we are breaking long plays, I am fine with that but I think we will see more drives that are 10 plays or more that we move down the field. If our defense is playing with a lead, we can also get very aggressive and force the offenses into bad situations which will help us. Clemson is a no huddle team that likes to push the tempo and they had a top defense in the country. We just can't go 3 and out too often. 1 minute breaks for the defense will be bad.

"Alright, boys. We're gonna do our Beamer Chant and then head out of the Beamer Barn to do the Beamer Walk down Beamer Way until we get to the Beamer Gates and head into the Beamer Tunnel before we do the Beamer Jump to Enter Beamer."

I know that the athletics department owes Wes Worsham a debt of gratitude for all he has done, but I think it would be a wonderful gesture if Wes recommended renaming the playing surface in Lane Stadium to "Beamer Field." I just think it's appropriate that we play football on a field named after the man who built the program into a powerhouse.

From yesterday's practice it looked like Lawson was comfortable running the inverted veer. Additionally, Evans looked good on a designed run. Motley showed some poor pocket presence in his short clip making a throw. Cam makes a nice catch in the EZ, looked very comfortable. It's always fun watching the one on ones, but keep in mind that db's are at an extreme disadvantage in those one on one's, so don't freak out too much if they are getting beat.

Obviously, these were all short clips of video. Can't draw too much from them, but I thoroughly enjoy getting an inside look at practice like this.

I loved the old style offense when that was truly our identity. Smash mouth, wear you out offense with OL that were going to move you off of the ball every snap and we were going to make you feel like you'd been in a battle when the game was over. Sadly we lost that identity and our OL hasn't been the same for quite some time.

This brings back the 2002 Marshall game when we ran around 60 times and demolished them.

Possibly, however Coach Fuente has mentioned time and again that he loves "Tempo", but not at the expense of good defense. He has said that he will not hang the defense out to dry for tempo sake.

I'm not so certain that the D will really be on the field a LOT longer. In reality, if this offense is simply gaining 1st downs (regardless of the tempo), the D will already be on the field less than in the past.

I think we need to rotate in a different QB for every play through the "preseason" to make sure we know which QB plays best with no rhythm before we get into ACC play. And make sure we go Wild Turkey with Bucky or Durkin if we do get some rhythm going. /s

Here is a note from one of the receiving students:

Dear Hogs4Hokies,

Thank you very much for your support through the April 16 memorial scholarship I was a recipient of this year. I am a senior at Virginia Tech studying Biological Sciences and Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise hoping to attend medical school post graduation. The scholarship helped relieve the financial strain of attending college this year and I appreciate your interest in funding scholarships for students like me. I wish I could attend the event on April 22 but unfortunately previous commitments prevent me from doing so. Thank you again for your interest in helping students financially, the scholarship I received was a huge help.

Go Hokies!
Anna Gibson
