I think the major "X-factor" over the last 5 games has been Justin Robinson. Dude has been playing really well as of late. When he is playing well and Allen is running at the 2 spot, this team becomes much more difficult to defend. I think as long as this is the case the Hokies have a chance against anyone.
Yea I have to imagine we are a NIT lock as well.... just playing for seeding/home games. Just offhand, here is kind of how I see things playing out depending on our ACCT showing:
- Lose 1: NIT 5-6 Seed
- Win 1: NIT 4 seed
- Win 2: NIT 2-3 seed
- Win 3: NCAA bubble and likely NIT 1-2 seed
- Win 4: Dancin'
I have to keep reminding myself that a "sleeper" label is reserved for a lower seed team, and we do not qualify for that, so we are not being snubbed.
I see Pittsburgh squeaking by Syracuse in the noon matchup. Was much more impressed with Pitt over the course of the year than I was with Syracuse. Syracuse's one win in their last five was against NCST and one of those four losses was a drubbing to Pittsburgh.
With NCST coming off of a win last night I see them bringing some early momentum and energy against Duke, but eventually Duke will pull it away as it is less reliant on one player to handle most of the scoring. Close until halftime, Duke will pull away.
As the initial thread discussion said I also think GT is a sleeper for the tournament, I really haven't seen enough of these two teams to truly pick a winner though. Clemson is solid as it GT. Will most likely come down to the final two possessions. I feel that GT can pull it out, but also feel the same for Clemson. Tossup matchup..
Now what we all will be sitting around waiting for... I think that FSU is a young, solid team with great energy. I believe we are similar. FSU ended the year strong with two wins and got another win last night over BC (but everyone does). This will not be an easy game in anyway. We didn't exactly run them out of the arena last time the two played though the ten point advantage will say otherwise. I feel that our young Hokies have what it takes though. With FSU coming off a game yesterday, I can see us pulling this one out! Go Hokies!
AGREE! LET'S GO HOKIES!
I grew up in Arlington, and lived there over 30 years. A fun fact that some may not know: the land was seized from Robert E. Lee after the war between the states as a result of his choice of siding with his "country" (Virginia) in the conflict. Many of the victors found a degree of satisfaction that Union soldiers were to be buried there.
Personally, my first 21 gun salute funeral there was for my father in 1986 (which chokes me up a bit even now, as I write this). But I have been to others since, and expect more. The history and the conversation of this hallowed place are very healthy for our board, and our society as a whole, IMO, and we have Buzz to thank for that. The fine people buried there deserve our solemn reflection of who they were and what they stood for, and can serve even today, long after they are gone, to help the living improve on how they conduct their lives in the here and now.
FSU was able to spread significant minutes to the bench last night. I'm doubting that they will have tired legs at end of game based on the box score. Starting 5 had 43 points with Beasley leading FSU with 28 Minutes of playing time. The Bench put in 45 points, I hope they struggle tonight.

Somewhere, some young internet savvy filly is going

Just take it one game at a time. Focus on FSU tonight, and then be confident about Miami after we win tonight.
Interestingly, he had to move over because Bogut was lifting his hand in celebration and was going to block the shot
Stop the bleeding!
Buzz knows how to build and coach a TEAM. I hope he remains our Coach for a very long time.

It's.... what's on the outside that matters?
Gotta jump in here even if only to say that I've been a Bronco fan since the M&M connection (Craig Morton to Haven Moses). Saw that team get handled by the Cowboys in the Super Bowl, saw them get crushed by the Redskins, the Giants, the 49ers and most recently the Seahawks. Elway couldn't win early on because he didn't have much of a supporting cast but once Mr Bowlen got him some help, they handled the Packers & Falcons. In the Seahawks game, that fabulous D they ran up against took out a great offense. So, Mr Bowlen's deputy, that same Mr Elway, went out and got the D the Broncs needed and they prevailed against the Panthers. Peyton was never invincible even when piling up all the stats and losing to the eventual best team in the league in the SBs only because he couldn't perform in the post season. Even the best sometimes lose, even in the regular season. We were fortunate that Elway did go get the D we needed and they arguably took out the best this year in the playoffs. It did me fine to see them take out Big Ben, Mr Brady and Mr Newton one by one and add the Lombardi to the trophy case. As for Peyton, age, injuries and Kubiak's offense took its toll. I still don't like that O because it is predicated on being able to run the ball. Either that O sucks or he tried to implement it without having the players that could execute it. Once teams saw that, they made us one dimensional and made it difficult for Peyton all year. Osweiler's performances allowed us to sneak in until Peyton healed. Yes the D won us the trophy but that first drive by Peyton even though it was for only 3, it set the stage. For the first time, the Panthers were behind and looked like a deer in the headlights. Then the D gave Cam the what-for and they were behind 10-0. Game set match. Yeah Peyton's abilities were waning but we don't know what it would have been like if Kubiak's O had the players to execute it and Peyton's foot injury hadn't happened. In quick succession I saw what a less than adequate O line was like seeing #7, #12 and #1 sitting on their butts several times due to the Bronco D. Peyton was the winning QB in each of those games. I witnessed the best offensive performance by a NFL team in history in the 2013 season and Peyton was the QB. The lack of a D got us in 2014 against the Colts and Kubiak's O & injuries almost got us in 2015. As for Peyton's place in QB history and where you personally place him ranking wise is just that. If it's just rings, he's not number one, if it's SB appearances, he's not number one. If it's all the TDs, yardage, wins and all,of the other numbers that he owns, then he's certainly number one. I really don't care about it anyway. All I know is we were blessed to have 2 of the best ever in Elway and Manning & we have arguably some of the best fans - check out the consecutive sell-out record. But I digress - Go Hokies!!!!!!
My father is buried in Arlington Cemetary and everybody should go and see a burial with honors becuse it will take your breath away. I love our men and women in the military. Thank you all so much.
gotta agree with that. Been to three since 03, two of them were Hokies and classmates. Still get choked up thinking about it. I've been back there a couple times to see their gravesites, actually not that far from each other and I lose it every time. My grandpa, who served in the pacific in WWII is also there.
Buzz is just an awesome coach and teacher.

# | GIFTORY: Frame-by-Frame Highlight Reel of Virginia Tech's 77-62 win over No. 7 Miami As a 33-yr-old, 5'2", 155lb man, I can tell you for sure something like this can be said with love or it can be said in derogatory way, and sometimes it is hard to tell. When in doubt, default your reaction to the trend of your relationship with the person who said it. If Justin thinks it's cool, then I do too. Although I find it odd that someone who is 6'1" is being labeled with little man syndrome. Hell, he probably couldn't even conquer Finland at that height, much less all of Europe.
Yea, I've been correcting other posts on facebook that are linking to articles that are suggesting he was upset with our players by commenting with the facts. 6 degrees of communication....
Now on Fox Sports, too: "Apparently Williams hasn't been happy with how his Hokies behave during the anthem"

In addition to good beers, Ocelot also has Big Frank's Bacon & BBQ food truck there on the weekends. Big Frank's 50/50 burger (half ground beef, half ground bacon) is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten.
The same thought occurred to me, but then I remembered what he wears to games. I imagine he has favorite/comfortable workout gear that he's used to wearing.
Hopefully Buzz will be able to settle on a rotation earlier in the season (or off season).
I was confident about a rematch with Miami but now I'm getting nervous about this FSU team. Playing with a chip.

Damn. It looks like they have decided on the at-large bids to the NCAA tourney (seeding has not been announced) and neither Gustafson nor Mastriani were invited. I'm not terribly surprised about Mastriani, but I thought Gustafson would've made the cut. Still, having 8 wrestlers qualify is no small feat. Great season for the good guys!
