Looks like Mike needs a...

Don't sweat the incidentals.
Although now I see this one got DV'd so so knock it the hell off, people.
Probably a lot of people are sick of this absolutely useless thread getting bumped back to the top of the tracker. Just leave it alone, everyone.
Worked for me
Agree, Andy's always been a class act when Ive interacted with him and he seemed to get along with Beamer really well, so if Beamer likes/liked (sad face) I like him.
I dont really understand the bitter-ness. Ill see myself out...

# | Justin Fuente and Staff Embark on Series of Coaching Clinics to Build a Brand in Virginia When I think of someone as a bullshitter, I think of someone who has no idea what they are talking about and are pretending to know something so others don't realize they don't know. That wasn't Stiney. Just because he could talk, enjoyed doing so, and shared stories often, it doesn't mean he's a bullshitter. He's not a guy to blow smoke up a coach's ass like it seems you might have been insinuating in your initial post. That's what I'm trying to say. Stiney's recruiting ability is the biggest hole between the previous staff and our current staff that was never properly filled. And we see that at least one coach has taken notice of that. We'll see who steps up, but I don't know right now who would be our biggest salesman with our staff at the moment and every staff needs one.
I will disagree with you that Stiney wasn't a bullshitter. He had a story for just about any situation or topic of conversation. He certainly had the gift of gab, and it suited him very well on the recruiting trail.
If I were there, Id want to listen to Wiggins, one of his interviews got me fired up, I bet he'll be a big recruiter for us, and Id go sit in with Cornelson...
but still, the first person Id want to listen in on is Bud, Id sprint to that booth, even though the past year was down a bit, I just love Virginia Tech's aggressiveness on defense. I distinctly remember time after time being excited when our defense hit the field, even when Tyrod was there.
Who's yalls go to coach booth?

this is all terrific!!!! Great writing! Great news! Great efforts by Fuente and his staff! Great reception by the HS coaches!
I also learned that the idiom is "Brass Tacks" and not "Brass Tax" so I learned something new today! That means I get to go home now, right?
I've been randomly getting ads in Portuguese the last few days on here.
What in this post warranted a down vote?
I've been draggin ass on signing up Joe, but this read of Alex's work put me over the top. I'm heading over to sign up now!
I love Frank, but I agree hearing he didnt venture into the 757 as much saddened me.
On the Burden front, I wouldnt be too concerned, its one persons view, who seemed to have a Stiney draw towards loud, salesmany characters. Burden has the ability to relate to kids and has showed that with a lot of his endorsements. I guess time will tell how well he does in that area, I just think the overall perception of the program is on another level of excitement right now. Im hyped for the spring game, I cant wait to see the Hokies on the field.
As long as Burden relates to the kids, I'm happy.
(For the most part)

# | Recruiting and the Changing Role of Virginia Tech's Defensive End and Backer The first link doesn't seem to work for me. Is it working for anyone else?

# | Justin Fuente and Staff Embark on Series of Coaching Clinics to Build a Brand in Virginia I would like to add that my belief is Foster feels he has unfinished business in Blacksburg and is hungry to make sure the College Football Nation is reminded of what VT football is all about!
I say this is in reference to the bruised ego comment which could be interpreted many different ways that I don't think is worth speculating further in my opinion.
Regarding point 3, I imagine it went something like this:
Fuente: "Galen, I want you to come with me, but you're going to have to take a demotion from DC to a position coach."
Scott: "Why would I ever agree to that?"
Fuente: "You'll be working directly under Bud Foster."
Scott: "I can be packed in an hour."
Fuente reigniting the 757....

# | Justin Fuente and Staff Embark on Series of Coaching Clinics to Build a Brand in Virginia Stiney is the friendliest guy you could meet but a no-bullshit guy. He just knew what he was trying to sell in terms of what VT has to offer and was very confident in it. Burden seems to speak softer and be more concerned with maintaining a more intimate relationship rather than being flashy. Not to say Stiney was flashy, but he was a loud guy with a big smile. Not sure I agree with saying Stiney was someone who would just take you out to dinner and spend 4 hours bullshitting. A salesman is often the best recruiter and we often say we want someone who can sell the VT brand and close on recruits. Some folks don't have to work as hard to get you to buy what they are selling, such as FSU, Clemson, and many SEC schools. Others work tirelessly to know what they are doing and how to get you to buy in. Stiney was the latter.

# | Justin Fuente and Staff Embark on Series of Coaching Clinics to Build a Brand in Virginia I had the same feeling but I do not know the man but assume if he is a head coach he has something going for him. That being said, I feel like being able to relate to the kids directly is equally if not more important.
I thought that too until I sat back and considered what was the purpose of the event.
It was a clinic for a set of college coaches to pass along information on how their experiences and lessons learned with regards to x's and o's. It wasn't a clinic on VT's offense or defense per se.
When I looked at it like that, it made complete sense. You wouldn't expect someone who has 2 months experience (and no practical experience) in a system to present that system to others. Nor should you when its not the system that is the focus; its passing along knowledge while making a positive impression on the audience.

# | Recruiting and the Changing Role of Virginia Tech's Defensive End and Backer Apparently Foster and company will be (or have already) meeting with Gary Patterson at TCU.
Here are links to a couple of Patterson-authored articles from years ago.

This isn't an easy question, but if you get a chance to read the articles, I'd be interested to see if you see anything in it Foster might find useful in tweaking his 4-2-5.

# | Justin Fuente and Staff Embark on Series of Coaching Clinics to Build a Brand in Virginia Excellent article, and the insight was extremely detailed! I don't know if i've read any other article that had this much candid information in it re: Tech and recruiting.
I'll parrot what other posters have essentially said.
1. Concerning that Beamer stopped coming down to certain areas - and this is from the mouth of a former Hokie too!
2. Also a bit nervous on the comparison of Stiney to Burden, though to his point, it remains to be seen if it's an issue or not.
3. The point about bruised egos - that might just be his opinion, but hopefully that's not the case either.
I'm too scared to search quality ass while at work to attempt to get a worthwhile gif.

I also think TKP brings a juicy-ness that cant withstand professional journalism, in the sense of the forums.
ie, crazy coach Torrain Gray stories, or which players are 'reportedly' in the dog house, or class act Ford/Rogers stories...
