Dad jokes?

I'll try not to disappoint, although my wife says my dad jokes are the worst she's ever heard. She about left me stranded at the grocery store while looking for Naan.
I was in High school '94/95 - '98/99. I didn't fail, at the time we started HS in 8th grade, were called thetamores and could only participate on the JV teams. I didn't play HS football, just wrestled but PE was mandatory until 10th grade so that's how I interacted with him.
After I graduated we moved from AA to A and won the state in '04 I believe, I think he had already left by then though.
It was the part where Alex wrote a great article about her and people's replies were about her looks. That shit happens to women all the time in professional fields as a tactic to demean and undermine them, as laid out very nicely in a couple of posts above.
I find it interesting that there appears to be a double-standard in this regard, though. The comments in the articles regarding the hires of Hilgard and Vice were filled with comments about their appearance (many unflattering) that didn't elicit a negative response from the commentariat. Now, I didn't see the coments that sparked the current shitstorm. They were deleted before I joined the fray. Perhaps they really were demeaning or crude. However, a simple observation of "Oh my, she's pretty", if that was the case, does not, IMHO, rise to the threshold of rudeness or boorishness.
I sincerely appreciate the feedback (even though most of it is negative).
I did not see where anyone demeaned her or implied that she wasn't extremely qualified for this position.
I removed that comment. Trust me, it was there.
Hell, I've even seen well respected writers take jabs at TKP fans in the middle of their articles.
I read almost everything before it's published, and I can't think of an instance of that happening.
I don't know when, why, or how but this site went from an amazing place that provided insight into the program and excellent analysis to educate the fans to a place where posters apologize before they hit 'submit'. Maybe it's me, maybe I'm the problem. Maybe my opinion of this website and what I thought it was meant to be was over inflated. Maybe I'm getting older and cranky. I don't know, but something has changed. TKP comment sections are starting to remind me of ESPN comments from years ago....completely useless and a waste of time.
I still believe the content we publish as a staff is top of the line.
However, I do think the comments quality has degraded some. Don't get me wrong, I laugh at everything GUNTAR posts, enjoy pop-ins from Mike London, and petebuddywilson's bagman narrative was one of the best TKP memes ever, but it was inevitable as TKP grew the signal to noise ratio would decrease. However, I don't think the comments approach anything close to completely useless. I think the overwhelming majority of what's posted is either funny or insightful (which hits the mark). (Obviously others don't.)
All I know is that this place is starting to piss me off and there is nothing I can do about it, be it personally or on the website.
I disagree. There's plenty you can do.
Contribute and post more of the comments and threads you would like to read. I strongly believe TKP has such a high-level of discourse because the writers and community members have set a high threshold for content. If you feel things are lacking, post an insightful thread or comment. Tell other smart and witty Virginia Tech fans about TKP and invite them to do the same. You, along with other members of the community, have the ultimate power to raise or lower the quality conversations on TKP.
Tell him what...? We ARE going to the Final Four, after all.

And no matter how often or articulately the smart-ass teenage me tried to convince my parents that fat chance should not mean the same thing as slim chance, it never worked. My mom still, 20+ years later gives me grief over that.

# | Danielle Bartelstein Stresses "Business as Usual" Start to Hokie Career, Despite Groundbreaking Role I find it amusing that you can get down voted for saying the person in question is attractive, but cancel out those down votes with Emma Watson GIFs...Regardless, great article Alex and I'm sure Danielle Bartelstein is more than qualified for the job and will make Hokie football operations that much better.
I think this was needed. Plus I think the refs need more education on what the NCAA is trying to say what is and what is not targeting. Too many times the WR/RB/whoever would duck their head to embrace a hit leaving the defender with no chance but hitting helmet to helmet. I don't like seeing a kid getting thrown out of a game with it was clear it was unintentional or better yet, not a targeting at all
GoKart, you're on a roll. I have a few comic strips I read daily, but I can also count on you for at least one chuckle every day you show up. Thanks for that, bro!
Sure we are champ! Shhhh... nobody tell him...

I can hit free throws with a basketball all day, really, all day. The big difference is could I do it in a D1 game with everything on the line?
Not the same thing, but I would imagine that a lot of people who could regularly hit 40-50 yard spirals on the practice field might not do so well in a live game situation with people looking to seriously f##k you up, and no room for "oops, shanked that one but I'll get the next one" mulligan available. Add to that, the positioning, control game that gets things downed where you need it, the hang time, etc., and I think you may be underestimating what we need on an ACC, National Championship chasing team.
The fans of losing teams usually unload tickets in droves - especially if they aren't local. I wouldn't try to buy before the tourney starts - unless you can get them at face value of course. By Friday evening/Sat morning maybe 25% of the weekend tickets are suddenly for sale. You shouldn't have much problem unless a local team or regional team with a rabid following are playing on Sat and/or Sunday.
Here's what I've done in the past and it's been successful:
1. Pick which city you want to go to - you can't worry about the teams, but you'll get a general idea of who is going to be in which region based on the bracket projections.
2. Once you've zeroed in, start looking for the actual costs for each ticket in the area in the arena you want to sit. Also make sure you know what a legit and non legit ticket look like before hand.
3. Start scouring Stubhub, ticket master, resell sites, etc. before selection Sunday, when demand will be lowest. If you find a price you can live with, go ahead and buy it.
In some select times, I've been fortunate. Couple years ago I found a guy in the parking lot with a 1/2 court ticket 10 rows up for $60. You will find a lot of singles in good spots in the arena for decent value, Doubles are more expensive. I try to stay away from the professional scalpers, they set their prices really high and then wont come down on them until the 2nd half of the first game has started, then you can get a deal for the 2nd one.
If you are buying on the street, I would come early and figure out the area where you'll see the most people coming to the stadium and just hold up your fingers.
Good luck - Raleigh is a good time and an easy arena to get in and out of, just be aware you're probably going to get Duke, UNC, or Virginia, or a combination of the two in that region.
haha. I don't have a staunch opinion on it. I don't think I've ever heard "fat chance" in a serious tone. It has always been sarcastic. I'm just bored too...not that I don't have work I could be doing..
OK, we can split those hairs if you want, but when was the last time, or the first time for that matter, that you encountered the term "fat chance" used in any way other than to invoke little or no chance at all? Can you tell it's an ugly day outside and I'm still bored? You are, of course, correct that the term is used sarcastically, but is it ever, ever not? Leg for your position, though. While I was aware of the distinction in a sub-conscious way, I had never really thought it through enough to actually come to your obvious conclusion. But not that that changes things.
Yeah, the show runners made a point to show Melisandre returning to Castle Black just prior to Jon's final scene. I'm not entirely sure what her role will be, but I have no doubt that she will have one. One thing that instantly popped into mind when first watching the scene was Beric Dondarrion who was brought back to life multiple times by a red priest.
Very very early projection, reserve the right to change them, already did, swapping Nye and Boykin at 197 to give NCSU 2 more points:
NCSU - 82
VT - 80
UNC - 40.5
DUKE - 37
UVA - 33.5
PITT - 27
Basic process is 1st place at each class earns 12 pts, 2nd place earns 9, 3rd place earns 5.5, 4th place earns 3.5.
Again this is the score based on expected seeding alon, not how i actually see it finishing.
I was going to comment on the mentality. I'm really hoping Fuente brings the underdog mentality to practice that he had at Memphis. Could you imagine having raw talent leaps and bounds ahead of what you were used to but still having them bust their ass like they were no name 0 stars with a chip on their shoulders?
You should wait till the VT office announces ticket sales BECAUSE WE'RE TOTALLY GOING TO THE FINAL FOUR.
Yeah, saw that. I'm a little leery of the Greyjoys as well, considering how badly giving the Dornish more time went last season.
But I guess we will have a whole lot of Stannis-sits-around-the-table-and-decides-to-wait scenes we need to fill.
Durkin working out with the WRs and TEs. Really hope we see him angrily run over some people this fall.
Evans looks very quick and fluid. Plus he looks built like a LB. Love how hard the QBs are going to be pushing each other.
Definitely can see the intensity and pace under the new staff. Fuente also very hands on. Like it.
Joey Slye knows he's gotta keep grinding so he can plow returners into the ground more often.

In your defense, it's pretty hard to get anywhere when you're on a treadmill.
