As a Virginia kid who grew up in the 1970s, I still like the fighting gobbler logo, I like keeping that around,

Yes. I hope we see more of the fighting gobbler. Hopefully it comes out of "retirement".

Not really though, I personally feel that every episode of Silicon Valley has a bad or sad ending...

Bartelstein is downplaying the importance of her doing this job, which makes me like her all the more and believe she is made up of all the warm fuzzies that Hokie's should be made up with. That's awesome.

Question though. Is Director of Operations in charge of player pro days? If so I sincerely hope she doesn't learn that lesson from Ballein. What happened on Tyrod's pro day was a debacle that should never happen again. Again I don't know if that was Ballein but whoever it was needed to own up to it at the time and didn't.

(minor soap box rant over)

Time to start recruiting in Loiusiana! We might not have a stadium that seats 100,000 but we so have Universities that are open!

Ok so we are getting our own Chicago Maroon! FINALLY! So tired of the different shades of gear at the bookstore. So when do we get our own burnt Orange to go with it?

Soooo stale. Not to mention they are just a different color scheme than LSU, Ole Miss, etc.

Currently tied 80 -80 in my advanced predictions. Will change before the actual tourney, but looks very much like a 2 horse race compared to VT UVA Pitt last year

It should warm up later this week that being said you have ice on top of snow which is a B***** to melt I'd give it a day

New York upstate checking in. Two days ago TWC says "rain on Tuesday". Of course eshiben5 says "not so fast, my friend", and lo and behold we've got 2+ inches of snow already with ice on the way. (-)5 F to (+)51 F in under 36 hours.

To make duals matter they want a Duals National Champion from the top match. They aren't going to pass on a team just to avoid a rematch. The rest of the matches they will avoid rematches but the title dual won't have that stipulation. It would be no different than when Alabama and LSU had a rematch in the National Championship game.

True. But when we were down they barely beat us. Either way, I don't guess it matters. I think we're a much better dual team than tournament team. The ACC tournament is not going to be a walk in the park.

Would be nice to be going to iowa instead as they are a tougher match-up but really this is just a warm up for the ACC tourney anyway in the grand scheme of things.

I knew John before he started at Radford High, by way of the "caddy shack" at Round Meadow Country Club in Christiansburg. They let white guys like me carry bags and make a few bucks and John was a regular in the old barn the caddies hung out in. We pitched pennies and generally had a great time in between the grunt work. John was a very friendly and bright guy. I remember when Radford High integrated, a few of my friends were nervous. It was a college town, with many Radford College professors and administrators from other areas of the country. Attitudes about integration were probably more enlightened than many small southern towns, but a few people still had questions, maybe because they had never had a chance to socialize with any blacks or maybe for "other reasons". Anyway, I told everyone who asked me that the guys I knew at the caddy shack were like "us". Those first black students at Radford were a brave bunch of kids, just like what played out at so many places across the country. Integration went without a hitch as far as I know. I remained friends with John until My family moved to Roanoke. Of course, he was my favorite Hokie for a long time, replacing Kenny Edwards on my list.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories!

Any ideas when it will be safe to drive in the area? I'm in South Carolina and am supposed to be headed to Blacksburg on a business trip tomorrow afternoon. I'm seeing rain tonight and slightly warmer weather forecasted...

And when we beat them 32-3 they were down several wrestlers as well. Really it is hard to argue the rankings when we've had some many guys that were either hurt or inconsistent the whole season.

And really for the National duals if you aren't the top non BIG10 team then it doesn't really matter where you are ranked. I'm sure Dresser just has them focused on gearing up for ACCs right now and the match against Michigan will be a good warm up for that.

That's what I'm talking about! I'm hoping for minimal use of the punter, and an occasional quick kick by our QB to pin the opposition back. Who knows, maybe one of the QBs has done some punting, ala Dan Pastorini.

Smitty checkin in. Cburg got about 10 inches, then the sleet started. We got a couple hour break which allowed me to catch up so I could complete shoveling so I could leave tomorrow am 4 Arlington. Wife is set too. Just before dark tonite it got really icy n we heard on scanner several big rigs wrecked on I81 near radford exit. It's really bad rite now. Rain later tonite should clear roads overnite (man I hope so). Be safe out there it's bad.

To each his own. I definitely don't like the majority of the Adidas/UA ultra-flashy stuff, but I just really don't like the shoulder stripes. I like what Whit has said about keeping the standard VT on all of the helmets for a really consistent look, and I also agree about adding some Hokie stone/gray looks into the colors. But I personally think the shoulder stripes have gotten a little stale at this point.

My bad. I should have known they were different, since I recall seeing the "Beamer Barn" recently, just didn't know it's name. Hitting the rafters of that baby would be tough. Rector's rafters probably aren't over 40-50 feet, but it did interrupt a pretty good punt.
