Upside to the temperature swing that came with this ice storm - two days ago I would have gotten frost bite chipping my car out. It's a balmy 28 this morning.

By most accounts, Tyrod Taylor's March 17 pro day workout at Virginia Tech did not go well. Whether that affected his draft destination – the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the sixth round – is uncertain.
But this is certain: There was rampant confusion about whether Hokies receivers Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin, both of whom have college eligibility remaining, could participate. Not to audition for the scouts, but to catch passes from Taylor.
John Ballein, Tech's associate athletic director for football operations, explained the confusion this way:
"I did not see the ESPN piece on Tyrod. However, we did have approval through our compliance office for Tyrod to throw to our underclassmen. I received written approval on January 31. I did not know there was an issue until an hour before the workout was to begin.

Just rubbed me the wrong way that no one followed up on this well enough to know 100% exactly what our players need to have to enable their best performance possible. Anyway, water under the bridge, I suppose but I always thought it was a disservice to one of my favorite Hokies. And I am just being grouchy.
I like the throwbacks, but I now associate it with the down years and it is a little stale. I loved the 04-07 look and I also liked the 08-09 look. We looked sharp as hell in the RMFW days, especially against Tennessee in the CFA bowl.
Morning update. There was no significant ice in Christiansburg maybe a light coating if anything. Or not that I noticed when I drove my little civic to work this morning. Btw our 10 inches was down to 6 by this morning... Long Valentines weekend.
What years were you there, I was there during 91-99 before I became a permanent resident in Blacksburg. I know a lot of the families out that way.
Always nice to be on the cutting edge on the evolution of sports.
Pretty ridiculous that women are just now really breaking the mold and getting important jobs in things like football, but hey... better late than never. Glad we're one of the first. Hopefully she is a great hire and we can start bringing in other top talent, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc,
Ah, that guy. I think they look similar. Thanks for clearing that up. I can proceed with my day now.
Something tells me that one day it will come out of retirement, and they'll put it on as much gear as they can and make truckloads of money off of us schmucks. They're basically going to McRib it.
Nope not Wil Wheaton - its from Always Sunny in Philadelphia
No, the very first post was nothing about her merits; only about her looks. Let's look at the other root posts.
2 - Then there is a link to the interview.
3 - Then a post about how Sands, Whit and all the hirings are impressive.
4 - Then a post excited about the direction VT is heading.
5 - Then a post asking what her job entails.
6 - Then a post about how great Buzz and Fuente.
7 - Then an excited gif.
8 - Then a post about how great the polo shirt looks.
9 - Then a post asking about more info of the job and her qualifications.
10 - Then a post on how she's Fuente's mistress.
That's when things blew up.
So 1 in 10 threads about her merits is what you mean by "a good thread about her merits"? Or did you mean the completely inappropriate root post of this particular thread is about her merits?
Maybe the first post wouldn't have been seen as so bad if the 10th hadn't been posted, I don't know.
I have a daughter. She's a sophomore at Tech in the Integrated Science Program - 1 of 13 students (down from 50 that were accepted last year). She's a double major in BioChemistry and Nanoscience; oh she'll also get a Chemistry minor. She is in the Honors program. She has already received undergraduate research credits (as a freshman). If I read her report correctly, she's ranked #4 of the sophomores in the College of Sciences. She's had 2 A-s her entire college career; one was a freshman year elective which annoys her still.
Oh and she was also the prom queen her senior year in high school.
Do you know what people say about her? "She is sooo pretty." Not "She is sooo smart." Or even "She's so smart and so pretty." That last is completely fine in my book - it acknowledges her hard work, and tips the hat to her (momma's it must be) genes. But hey I find I do the same thing about other people.
If the first post was further down (and #10 didn't exist) then we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Its about timing.
I can't figure out if this is W(h)il Wheaton or not.
Man! What happened?
Then she might get confused with President Sands' Chief of Staff.
Lol I actually looked at a post up-thread to make sure I spelled it correctly. Sorry about that, Grehg.
While it's exciting to be invited to the National Duels, I can't pretend I don't hate Michigan. I hope we curb-stomp those jokers. Anyone have any idea how we can get Danny Coale named honorary referee for this one?
If the goal was really to crown a Duals National Champion, it wouldn't be structured the way it is. Right now, Penn State and Iowa are in the same conference, both undefeated, and ranked #1 and #2. Between them, they've won something like 7 of the last 8 national championships. Conference scheduling did not pit them against each other, which happens about one year in every 3. Yet, the event is structured to prevent them from wrestling each other. If they really wanted a legitimate Duals champ, they'd let those two duke it out, don't you think?
Great write-up!
Didn't really remember Rogers from that season. Maybe if Coffey could have produced some defense, his teams could have been dangerous. Yep, Rogers was the man, QB, on that '75 team which went 8-3 and which some said was snubbed by the Bowls of the time. Interestingly enough, Bruce Arians ran Sharpe's wishbone in '74.
In 1973 (my Fr year) Rogers became the first 1000 yard rusher at VT. He and Barber rotated at tailback.
Sharpe eventually moved him to QB.

# | Danielle Bartelstein Stresses "Business as Usual" Start to Hokie Career, Despite Groundbreaking Role Perhaps Chief of Staff...authority/responsibility for making sure that everything that needs to be done gets done.
Nice to see this article revived. Dobbins was one of those larger than life guys for me since as a younger, local area guy I got to see him play in high school and college. I get the feeling many younger Tech fans have no sense of what came pre-1990's. You mention Alan Bristow. Did he graduate in 1972? I seem to remember him playing on Tech's NIT championship team (when that tournament meant something) in 1973. That tourney in itself was a real nail-biter for us Hokie fans as we went through it winning each game by no more than a basket before pulling the final out against Notre Dame in OT. The years after that moving into the 80's would be an interesting era to re-examine for roundball fans. We were competitive.
No but the weather update now includes like an inch of ice, but it's raining all day today and it'll get up to almost 40 so it should flood everyone nicely.
As a Virginia kid who grew up in the 1970s, I still like the fighting gobbler logo, I like keeping that around,
Yes. I hope we see more of the fighting gobbler. Hopefully it comes out of "retirement".
Not really though, I personally feel that every episode of Silicon Valley has a bad or sad ending...

"Our own Chicago Maroon"
Wouldn't it then be Hokie Maroon? ooooooh marketing possibility!
