Right, I remember these statements. He was vocal about what a disaster he inherited.
I could see Buzz leaving in year 3-4, dependent solely on the fans. You can tell how much it means to him to pack the house. He understands winning will get asses in seats. But if he is putting out a good product in year 3 and 4 and not seeing the stadium packed for non-conference opponents, I can see him leaving.
jumping in here.. 100% correct above as the NCAA restricts on where kids can transfer and if they have to sit out. Coaches just have to approve and they rarely block a transfer and in most cases will even help you find the best place possible. The only reasons a kid would get blocked is if- school he is transferring to is on the next years schedule or if transferring from a FSU team to BAMA so title contender to title contender
If motley was good enough he would've been starting over Brewer and before that Logan - not coming in once Brewer got hurt. I'm not sure where all of this motley affinity and affection is coming from - but dude was a serviceable backup who had ups and downs with his play, couldn't effectively hit the deep ball, and isn't a starter.
Evans was handpicked by Fuente and has always been in the back of Fuentes mind even when he was at Memphis. He certainly sees something in him that would work in his offense.
For Fuente to invest in Motley for one year doesn't make a whole lot of sense, with Evans he has two years and Lawson three and Jackson four. Makes more sense for him to try to build around one of them than motley and also the fact that all three have considerable talent.
You guys are telling me you would be happy to see a mediocre motley lead our team this year? He would be good for a few wins, but don't see him winning against nd, tenn and the rest of the tougher opponents on our schedule.
Why wouldn't we put in an Evans or Lawson at that point?
I personally would rather go with an unknown who has a great talent upside than an unproven, basically career backup.
The argument that him and Brewers numbers were close speaks more to the weak talent level of our qbs last year rather than motleys ability to take us to the promise land. Brewer was a great kid, tough as nuts and smart as hell, but obviously wasn't the answer, but was the best option we had the past few years.
Not sure why some are practically lobbying for motley, when we have some highly touted new qb prospects waiting in the wing, but that's the point of a discussion board to discuss these ideas.
Love any mention of my boy Ron Mexico
In their defense, they do that to Big12 schools on the reg too.
Wow. Never thought I'd mention Baylor, Big12 and defense in the same sentence. Go me.
Did you go to PG High too? I have a love/hate relationship with the area, haha.
We just beat a top 15 team by 40 in our bowl. They sucked. Everyone knew what was coming and we did exactly what everyone excepted. We did the same thing to the same Iowa team that lost 1 game this year, last year. They had inflated records because they had cupcake schedules. I know you can't help who you play in conference, but its not hard to tell when a team is helped by the level of their opponents.
They play in the SEC. By default that means their worst programs are better than everyone elses' best
/sarcasm
As mentioned above, this type of thing happens at a lot of schools. Maybe the administrations aren't "enabling" in quite the same way, but coaches and people in Athletic Departments around the country know.
I think that, in the mind of many, it is easier to simply ignore situations like this rather than meet them head on.
Playing Vanderbelt in the SEC.
Okay, man. You very clearly said "sucked." Which is very clearly false.
Also, I believe winning does in fact make you good. What other measuring stick is there for being good?
Does the University of Phoenix have a D-1 team?
Your opponents in those games were t exactly world beaters, just because you won, doesn't mean you're good. Tennessee wasn't good and had a coach on the way out. What were the others? Cincinnati? Kansas? Tenneasee would have have some good records with those schedules and opponents too.
yeah I don't think that the VT offense is in dire straits like the Memphis offense was. I don't think it will take Fuente two full seasons to build a capable offense in Blacksburg. I also don't think we're going to come out of the gate firing on all cylinders. I think it will take most of the first season to get going. I expect our offense to be pretty good (top 50) going into 2017 and then hopefully closer to the top 10 or 20 by 2018. I don't think we're going to see a top 60 offense in September or October of 2016. Maybe towards the end of November we'll start to see an offense that we can rely on to score at least 4 or 5 times in a game. Maybe.
Defensively I still think we're going to struggle early in the year. That's just natural when you have to replace some stalwarts up front. Our Linebackers have struggled for a couple seasons and we're still relatively thin and extremely inexperienced in that group. That doesn't seem like a recipe for success to me.
I expect both our offense and defense to improve over the course of the season but I just don't think we are going to go into the season with a team capable of winning 9 or 10 games. I think 6 games is our absolute floor and I'm tentatively hoping to win 8. I think we lose to UT and ND. I think we lose two of Miami, UNC, Pitt. I hope we don't drop any stupid games otherwise. GT is always a tough out for us. We lucked out with our schedule, mostly. Aside from UT and annual headaches with ECU and BC most of our tough games come later in the year. That at least gives the coaching staff some time to coach up the players and iron out some kinks. I'm not expecting to roll into November with a well-oiled machine by any means but I do think we can 3 of 4 in the last month of the regular season.

Virginia Tech won a BCS bowl game in 2009 and went to a BCS Bowl 4 times between 2009 and 2012. The other year in that stretch Virginia Tech beat UT in the Chick-Fil-A bowl. We didn't win all of those bowls but we certainly didn't "suck"
Just one team was far worse than the other and certain people seem to forget that when making broad stroke comparisons. At least we ended up above .500 against Top 25 teams during a time that covers some of our worst seasons in the past 20 years.
They won a national championship in three different sports last year. It's their thing, they pick on us because of our 0 national championships. We pick on them because they haven't beat us in football since before Donald Trump started the Apprentice or before Zuckerberg stole Facebook.
To argue the 0 Natty's point is as hopeless as them arguing anything about football. They've got us on that one, not much we can do about it.
Yea we had a terrible 10 years, we also had Derek Dooley. Despite that were sill top 10 of all time wins. Both of those records show 1 thing, both of our teams sucked the last 10 years.
Edit: If you'd look at the 90s you'd find it completely the opposite. We just didn't lose then. (Except to Florida)
I am a strong believer in innocent until proven guilty. Could be a massive problem, or people seeking big money via settlement, or a grudge against someone. Not a UT fan, but will not pile on anyone without more to go on than "filed a suit".
but you saw what it gets you, an abysmal record against top 25 teams
This is very funny coming from a fan of a team who went 13-53 against Top 25 teams since 2002 while we went 27-25.
EDIT: For the record, 2002 was as far as I could go back on ESPN's schedule page and Tennessee doesn't have team rankings on their main football page for past results. Otherwise, I would have gone back to Frank's first years which would have included the 6 year stretch of 1-14 against top 10 teams at the beginning of his tenure. Still, pot, meet kettle.
Wilson is a really important part of this team. I was hoping the clarity for how he contributes in the Clemson game would end these types of "he can't shoot" comments for at least a while.
And certainly no "he should transfer" nonsense. I mean, c'mon.
I'm not saying it's an all out bidding war, but a recruit coming out to find an envelope on his windshield is certainly happening.

Yep....looks like Fedora got out of there just in time by going to UNC to avoid any impending discipline from the NCAA.
