During the 8 year 10+ win streak I think many fans envisioned, whether seriously or as an enjoyable what if, that TG would become the DC under Bud Foster as HC and we would bring in some hotshot OC. Interesting how a few bad years can change so much.

I see what your saying in terms of a bigger stage, Florida is a top 10 program in the country, despite wins and losses. If he turns out 2 years worth of positive performance and recruiting, he is guaranteed a shot at an upper-tier DC job somewhere.
I guess I just thought that TG would leave VT for a defensive coordinator position at a comparable program, I never expected him leave his alma mater to move up in the p5 realm for another position coaching job. He is from Florida after all, but I can't help feeling that a paycut is what started this.
If not the money, or the imposed feeling of disrespect that comes with a paycut... is a few years at Florida really going to to improve his resume that much, is being a finalist for the nations top position coach, albeit at VT, worth that little? Maybe it was just the respect TG carries with Hokies fans, but I had really expected him to be a DC somewhere else, starting around 2010!
hargreaves was essentially a lock to be a top player this year, he's a kendall fuller type talent. not sure about the other player
plus I think Dhall while he may have came in a very selfish player has matured a lot over the years. would you take Deion sanders to be your DB coach?

Agreed. I seriously doubt Fu and Whit were not aware of Gray leaving before yesterday. It's not like he walked into Fu's office yesterday afternoon and said "well, since we got our class inked I'm going to peace out."

I don't know what direction this will go. I do know that if the primary focus is finding "an ace recruiter here in Virginia," then we are being short sighted.
I agree, but I also can't stand when people homer for former VT players who have little to no recruiting experience, after they complain about recruiting lately. That's not directed at you French, however.
We are actually as deep at QB as I can remember over the last twenty some years.
Knew this day would come, just didn't expect it to come so soon. We will surely miss his recruiting. This puts Babcock and Fuente on the hotseat to find a qualified candidate to replace Gray's production on field and off.
Hopefully Lawson can be redshirted. That has to help with his long-term development at QB. However, I am more intrigued by JJ. It will be interesting to see QB's Fu targets in the '17 class and is able to land.
The better question is do we want a 6'-4'' 230lb Brewer?
Hmmmm. Is this part spin or is it all the straight poop? Probably some spin in there in regards to the offers to stay - VT probably did but knew it was a done deal - so its optics to some degree.
Note the last sentence by Coach Foster. Fuente is deciding the new DB coach... (I acknowledge that may be a generalized statement, but Bud didn't say "Coach Fuente and I").
If you can't tell, Yes, I'm pissed off about TG leaving. He dovetailed extremely well into Bud's system - hard to find a solid replacement.
I would guess that people misspelling his name is probably why he left, you know, since it wasn't about money...
I surely hope NOT. I mean what does El Fuente see that is wrong, incorrect or needs fixing with the job Foster and Gray have done (other than crootin)? Does he honestly believe or even think there is/are superior coordinators coaches to them (other than crootin)??
Yep, with Bud staying on here, if TG wants to be a DC in the near future, he's gonna have to move on...seems like it wasn't handled the best though.
