Maryland actually offered Ty Pigrome (sp) and a low 4* guy who decomitted from Arizona. A little worried about Ty, he was very high on us but he has a much better chance at playing QB at Maryland than here

... and what is the "normal" case when a new HC retains some of the previous HC's assistants. Is it "normal" to consider them all new hires, or is it "normal" to assume the old guard will continue making what they used to make?
I know in my place of employment we have some old timers who earn more than they're worth just because they are old timers. If we had a whole new regime (which is nearly impossible in our setting), a new CEO who failed to correct that problem would be viewed as "meet the new boss, same as the old boss." After all, Coach Gray's salary was only cut by about 5%. Coach Wiles was the only one who took a substantial pay cut. Is it conceivable that Fuente didn't really want to retain Wiles, but did so as a favor to Bud? If so, could that have been part of the bargain? ("OK, I'll keep your guy, but I won't pay him more than the other coaches.")
In defense of both schools, their history of success is shorter than ours, which is not long in the scheme of college football.

Back in my day, we had search for bottles & beer cans to trade in for a few coins we could take down to the local arcade.
And the Arcades! Row upon row of choices, and all of them cost money. None of this "I'm bored with my Madden Hitman Sonic Witchers, I'll just put a new cartridge thingamajiggy in the hoozit and play something else for a while". Noooo, we had to budget our coins, too poor to ever become really good at a game... unless you happened to figure out the old quarter on a string trick.
At least we had to interact with flesh and blood people, and that's the way we liked it!

My only worry on this hire is that he has been at a number of places already. I like when we have long term great hires. Hopefully he puts down roots and doesn't move on after 3-4 years.
One thing he did really well was keeping everything within budget.
What I found most interesting is how far down the list some of our guys who made it to the NFL are on this list.

It just goes to show, I think, how much of a crapshoot those recruiting rankings can be.
Yeah I think the vocals mostly comes down to taste. I don't listen to a lot of metal, so I'm partial to the new stuff but I don't think it's radically different from Blue Record. I actually got into the band because a clerk at Crossroads (formerly of Blacksburg, in case it wasn't there when you were) who I talked to a lot knew them personally and recommended then brand-new Blue Record when I was buying a Clutch cd.
Totally agree on the production. They brick-walled the hell out of it in the mastering, making it yet another victim to the loudness war. On top of that, I think Fridmann doesn't produce a lot of heavy bands, and this felt like him trying out stuff he'd done with the Flaming Lips on Embryonic that makes sense for a psych band, but not a metal band. Specifically where he pushed the drums all the way into the red to give them a super-compressed sound. It's kind of cool at first but wears on your ears, and just comes off as harsh where the rhythm section needs to have a lot more warmth and dynamicism to support all these guitar-heavy arrangements.

I think you're both right. Bucky could have done a much better job of blocking, but he did enough to create a lane. Ford was looking the other direction, though.
