I love UVA fans. Talking about a LOLUVA loss this is their response.

LOL! All teams above pathetic get bowls now even teams like VT....

that went 5-6 vs. FBS opponents 3 years out of 4.
You're mediocre AT BEST.

What does that make LOLUVA football then?

Blackshear was a man on D last night. He was always there with help, but kept an eye on his man down low.

What a lovable but goofy player he is. 6'11 with the face of a 14 year old. He walks/runs on his tip toes, I feel like his heels rarely touch the ground. Once he polished up his outside game, he'll be a baby-faced force to be reckoned with in the ACC.

I caught the very end of the Clemson-OU game and bits and pieces of the Bama-MSU game. NYE is a terrible time to have important games. I was driving up to a friends place for a party during the Clemson game and was too busy to watch the Bama game.

At first I was pretty apathetic to having very important games being on NYE when NYD was the perfect time due to it being awesome to recover and watch football. This was due to it being different and it might be a good idea to have them going on in the background at a bar or party. Then I learned it's because of the the freaking Rose Bowl and my blood boiled. That stupid bowl game is up there with Notre Dame in my list of least favorite things about College Football....

Is Progress still around? I thought they got bought out by Duke Energy.

I worked with Progress in Florida on a professional level and they were the most inept group of people I've ever seen in my life. It's truly a wonder that anyone actually got electricity in their homes and stuff got repaired after it broke.

In the middle of the project Duke bought Progress and the Duke people came in and things got some better. There was one meeting where the Duke people met with us separate from the former Progress employees and basically told us they had no idea things were that bad with Progress and weren't sure how they functioned.

Fair point. I guess my overarching argument is, anything we pull out of the ground is finite.

Yup, that's what I was agreeing with you about. The point I was trying to illustrate is that it's misleading for the experts to state that we have enough of X resource to last Y years. It creates an illusion of scarcity that often leads to poor decision making. We should absolutely be looking for the next big thing (tidal energy and fusion reactors, please), but forsaking the readily available resources we already have in favor of wind turbines that require more energy to produce (by some estimates) than they can generate in their lifetimes seems foolish to me.
*steps off soapbox before this thread gets even further derailed

Because how a coach conducts himself or runs his Dept is bigger than any one win.

So you are damn right I am going to care more about how our coaches act than one win, any one win.

I dont think this will be a trend, I think Buzz himself showed he felt he treated the reporters poorly when he apologized for them waiting without any word at all after the NCST game. I think Buzz reflected on it and thought himself it could have been handled differently.

" "hold on guys. I have to go tell the media I won't be able to do my presser right now.. I'll be right back to start our talk." Doesn't work that way."

No you cannot objectively say that, just as Bitter couldnt objectively say it could have waited, there is no way to prove either, that it worked, or seems to have how he handled it does not make it the only way it could have.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Fuck UVa.

I was watching the first game until some people came over, I would have watched more of the Alabama game but we were out and only one of the places had it on.

I dont really know what they were thinking, I mean, the Alabama game was still going on basically up to the ball drop.

Im more surprised that they are surprised the numbers are down...its not like people all of a sudden stopped liking football, who are these teams that they are talking about that would have such greater national presence - it was Alabama, Oklahoma, Clemson, and Michigan State, its not like it was Kansas vs Boston College...its almost like having a bowl game in Shreveport, LA... the day after Christmas..........

Watching on TV last night, it was amazing to see, then just as amazing to hear the faint "JUST LIKE FOOTBALL" ringing out through Cassell

EDIT: too dang slow to the walk like an egyptian joke. Here's my consolation prize:

What face do you make when you're ranked #4 in the nation and get knocked off by your in state rival who you've been telling "wait til basketball season" since they hung 12 in a row on your football team? These

six missed free throws from the Hokies in the game's final minute

We are gonna need these against Duke. If we make even 4 of these the game isn't even close down the stretch. We were 77% from the line before these misses. I am sure Buzz will talk to his team about FTs down the stretch.

I have to say, we just beat two teams that should have dominated us down low in NC State and UVA. I honestly think NCSU's Abu and Anya may be the ACC's best (and heaviest) front court tandem and we handled them well. UVA, while they suck, is overall a tall physical team that has some tough inside players including Gill and Tobey.

We don't really have a physically dominant inside player as of right now beyond Johnny Hamilton, who plays sparingly. I hope I'm not getting ahead of myself, but it feels like we are seeing that harassing, turnover-creating basketball team similar to what Buzz had at Marquette. We have a ways to go, but I like the direction we are going.

Will Johnston, Christian Beyer have as much to do with this win as the kids that played tonight.

That my fellow Hokies is what Buzz means by building a winning culture! Awesome game!!

message doesn't ring the same if you say "hold on guys. I have to go tell the media I won't be able to do my presser right now.. I'll be right back to start our talk." Doesn't work that way. This entire thread you've done nothing but comment on this situation and bloviate about him being a high paid employee, etc. Have said nothing about the team or the big win that just took place. Good for you, pal.

Defense, of both teams, really surprised me. We got to the rim quite easily. The pick and roll was working great. LeDay's pump fakes 23' from the basket worked!

On the other side, they couldn't get a good shot, even though you could see their offense is impressive. They move the ball beautifully, they get their players in solid 1-on-1 positions, they are in position to crash the glass. But our D made life miserable for them.

Thanks for the breakdown!

I definitely got turned off to Basketball by the JJ years and still dont follow the team as closely as others so I for sure dont get as much exposure to Berman, so I can see and remember some of the incidents you do describe and can see how history here goes a long way to building perception. But at this point I dont think his day of tweets were anything to write home about, and his actual game article doesnt even really paint it negatively, just a thing that happened with Buzz trying to get to the team.

I think Bitter's "That only happens in movies" comment was the worse one personally, but even then lets be honest how many times have we seen "intense meetings or players only meetings fall flat". I just dont see how saying "man that sucks that my friends and co workers got handed a shitty day they werent really expecting and nobody kept them up to date about how long it will be, thats a change from the normally respectful and professional workings weve experienced" is stepping over a line that is an important discussion to have.

Buzz is an intense coach, and that means a lot of different things at different times, and he can be doing the right thing since it worked now, and it being a Jerk to others and thats fine. Hell if anything it jives with what we were told about by the Marquette fans when he first came here. But that doesnt mean we shouldnt acknowledge it.

6-10. That's what we need to finish .500 for the year. That's it, win 6 of our remaining 16 ACC games.

Maybe we should be thinking higher than .500, but to finish at .500 this year would be a great accomplishment. This team still has a lot of problems, still have 2 or maybe 3 of our best players in street clothes. And the schedule is unrelenting. With Wake and GT after Duke, there is a real chance to get to 4-1! then it's ND and UNC and Lville and Pitt and Syracuse and UVA and Miami and FSU.....it never stops!

6-10 the rest of the way would be huge.
