I think UVA may have taken VT too lightly in this one
After the game we gave them in our house last year? If that's true they deserved this loss from the opening tip.
Seems to me the tweet is about VT beating UVA in both Basketball and Football.
They're going to get theirs anyway unless they suffer a total collapse. This is probably a net positive for the ACC. It lets us continue to promote our "SEC, but for Basketball" narrative of having the deepest league.
Buzz's mixed metaphor game is strong. The way he mixes sports, blending baseball and boxing, switching from his team being pitchers to batters to clean-up hitters to throwing body blows...next-level stuff.
Terribly sorry to hear this I hope one day you'll only remember the great times with him and be able to smile

Crap like this is why I regret not even applying to LOLUVa. I viewed it as a wasted application fee since I knew I was going to do engineering and their department was way behind all the schools I considered. Had I applied and gotten in, I could throw it in the face of arguments like this. Oh well.
One comment I keep hearing is that the ratings were also down because "the games weren't competitive." I thought the OU-Clemson game was more competitive in the 1st half and turned into a blowout slower than the FSU-Oregon game last year.
And the OU-Clemson game was still down 36% from that FSU-Oregon game.

Some thoughts on this one:
- Great win, period. UVA is a great program under Tony Bennett and their top 5 ranking is well-deserved.
- I think UVA may have taken VT too lightly in this one, and we certainly punched them in the mouth in the first half. Having watched a decent amount of UVA basketball, they looked lethargic and did not play up to their standard. Part of that was excellent defense by the Hokies, but UVA was sloppy with the ball in both halves. Lots of miscommunication between their guys, which VT exploited well.
- I was really proud of how this Hokie team did not fold under pressure in the second half once UVA took the lead. It gives me more hope for this season that we'll be a much improved team. Perrantes was killing us for a stretch there, but we kept pace and didn't let the game get away from us when it seemed they were gaining momentum. Buzz's comments about apologizing to his guys for not taking a timeout when that was occuring were interesting... in the long run, I think it benefits this team knowing they don't have to be bailed out by Coach Buzz to stop the bleeding when the other team is making a run.
- Also, some caution. While this is a wonderful statement win, there are still some issues that may rear their ugly head with this VT team. They've been Jekyll & Hyde this season, and I don't know that it's completely gone just yet. As Buzz said, there's no consistent go-to scorer on this team. That could hurt us at times when you just need a basket when the team is struggling. The fact that we've had several guys step up with big games is awesome, but it's a double-edged sword since it means some guys will just go cold on any given night.
Playing as a team and not relying on any one person can help alleviate that, and that's how they played last night. Unselfish play was readily apparent last night, as you could tell every guy was just looking for the best shot on almost every possession. It paid off, and I hope to see a lot more of that as ACC play continues.
For you youngsters out there......
Lets not jump ahead. Lets worry about Duke and then approach those other games. Wake Forest, as bad as they were in recent years, is a dramatically improved team this year, with wins over Arkansas, LSU, UCLA, #14 Indiana, and Rutgers. Three of their four losses are to #19 Vanderbilt, #18 Louisville and #6 Xavier.
Georgia Tech has wins over Tennessee, Arkansas, VCU, and Duquesne. Three of their four losses are to #8 Villanova, Georgia, and #7 UNC. They also will bring with them a certain three point sharp shooter who would probably love nothing more than to put a W on Tech. Adam Smith is averaging 13.6 PPG as the #2 scorer for the Yellow Jackets. He is currently shooting 45% from outside.
The sense of entitlement from the media is astounding right now.
They are not a priority in the grand scheme of things. The obligation is that the coach and players will be made available to you after games, but there is no stipulation on when that has to occur. If the coaching staff feels something is more pressing than addressing the media immediately following the game, tough shit. They should be grateful they have the jobs they do, which allow them to cover what they do while being comp'd for the expenses.
They think they're rockstars and part of the band when in reality, they're the groupies.
Not sure but there is a definite resemblance.
Good call on the survey. I actually enjoyed the games being on NYE because it gave me an excuse to not have to spend a ton of money on a ticket to some shitty bar, in order to stand in line all night to get my all you can drink watered down crap... I sound like an angry old man.
Any who, kind of off topic, but I don't know about you, I also have many degenerate friends who enjoy gambling with the best of them. I'm not a gambler, but the benefit of having them as friends is that you watch all big sporting events like someone's life is on the line, or in this case loads of cash. I honestly watched most of, it not all of both games. Gambling makes everything important...the spread, the over/under, prop bets on who is going to score the first points of the 3rd quarter and by what means??? My friends have issues, but it is really fun watching them live and die over a fourth quarter TD scored in a blow out, it's the real life game within the game!

I have no sympathies. They get paid and comp'd to cover games. If they have to wait a little while here and there while the coach addresses issues he feels is more important, so be it. They are the media, they report the news. They aren't the news, nor should they be creating it.
In fact, with the ongoing death of the regional reporter with newspapers going belly-up and regional sports columnists being replaced by specialized beat reporters for the national sites, they should just be thankful to still be employed. They're basically paid groupies. The school has zero obligation to them because they're replaceable, and in the grand scheme of things, they're completely irrelevant.

# | OT: Star Wars Episode VII (SPOILERS. SO. MANY. SPOILERS.) It's somewhat clear from the original trilogy that removing the Sith would bring balance to the force. This is probably the best explanation as equal numbers of light/dark doesn't make sense and they give so little detail on what that actually entails or what the prophecy actually said in the prequels. These ideas weren't very thought out, as I've mentioned before, as they would have been in Harry Potter or the Tolkien universe. One of the best/worst things about Star Wars was how Lucas pretty much made it up as he went. So we have to live with some poorly explained/vague/even contradictory at times ideas.
Let's also be fair, there are some posters on the sabre that are giving Buzz and our team credit for a good game and a hard fought win.
I didn't see a whole lot of delusional posters recently, but some, like this gem:
When I was a student 30 years ago, I was taken aback by their animosity toward us. I could only attribute it to anger over having not been accepted to UVA. In NoVA, tech was typically a backup option - mine as well. As a first year, we were somewhat indifferent to them and the rivalry. I only began to despise them in response to their spite for us.

Right now his injury prevents him from putting down at least one of his heels. Still havent seen anything official on what the injury is but apparently he will play on it throughout the season and have it fixed in the off season with surgery. That said, he does run the floor much differently than most big men because of how many years he spent playing in Europe while his dad was playing basketball over there.
Buzz should do what he wants, but continued community rage over a few reporter's tweets seems a bit overblown as well.
