time is money, man. With games like CoC, I have to draw the line when I find myself spending more time playing than I would any other leisure activity. What makes these games awesome is the little trail of crumbs they lay that keep you play obsessively. What sucks about these games is the fact that they're only fun if you play them obsessively. Well, that and the fact that pay-to-players will always kick your butt.

Cochrane was open to anyone. I knew non-athletes that went there frequently back in the early to mid-90s. I believe most people didn't go because they assumed it was athletes-only.

Win or lose what I'll remember most about Beamer's last season is the celebration on the sideline immediately after the interception at UVa. At this point, this game is just a victory lap and the outcome is generally meaningless in the grand scheme, especially with a new staff already announced.

The thing is, Zach LeDay (6'7", 235) checked Miles (6'7", 216) for the majority of the game. That's not a (physical) mismatch.

Kerry Blackshear (much bigger than Miles) and Chris Clarke (an inch shorter than Miles) each guarded him in spurts, and sure, there was an occasional switch. But Isaiah Miles just worked us, plain and simple.

It's definitely not going to be what the military bowl was for me last year: salvaging the season (as much as it could be) and making for a preview of the following one. That said, I'm really excited to see our boys suit up one more time and to get another chance to observe the players that will be the heart of the offense next year, even with the inevitable (and welcome) changes. We get to see Isaiah Ford try to become the second Hokie receiver to break 1K yards. We get to see T-Mac post his first of, I hope, many 1K yard rushing seasons. We get to see Cam and Malleck be clutch when everyone is blanketing Ford and Bucky (yes, I know Malleck will not be here next year, but it seemed to fit).

In short, I know things will change and there will be limited continuity between the bowl game and spring ball, but I'm not entirely throwing out this game.

When I was at Tech from 1975-79, Hillcrest was definitely known as an athlete's-only dorm, with its own dining hall. I seem to remember it being football-only, but I could be wrong. It was known that the Hillcrest dining hall served different and better food than what was offered in Owens and other regular dining halls. The athletes got served steak once/week, while it was offered once/quarter to the rest of us (yes, we were on the quarter system back then). And, "steak night" was not all-you-can-eat; to ensure we received only one leathery, overcooked Ponderosa-quality ration of beef, our student ID's were checked off by dining hall staff when you went through the line. But oh, how we looked forward to "steak night".

Back then, the dining halls actually sucked, cycling through food over a period of days (e.g., hamburgers one day became Salisbury steak the next day, which became chili or spaghetti the next day, etc.).

Outside of sending Beamer off with a win and not being the first class since 1992 to have a losing season, the game means next to nothing. Foster gets a couple extra practices to evaluate guys who will be needed to play next season (Mihota, Hill, Gaines, Settle, Walker, Alleyne, Edmunds, Moss, and Lydon.)

Offensively, you could argue it is counter productive. Fuente, if he has spent any time observing practice, could be doing some evaluation. But, the offense will be working through the growing pains of a new system (despite Loeffler's comments about the similarity of the structure) in the spring.

I would really like to see Frank coach this as he coached all bowl games, as a reward for the players. I want them to have fun, win, and do it the right way like Frank always has. I'd prefer not to lose to Tulsa in Shreveport of all places (been there, I have family living there) but, if we do go down I hope it doesn't get too many people down.

But heading into the game day of with a nice buzz this will be my mindset:

I think you are going to be surprised how much the offensive plays next year will look like ones from this year just with better end results.

As for th game I'm interested in the outcome for several reasons 1) Frank gets an even number of wins( it will look better on his plaque in the hall of fame) 2) boost the self confidence of the younger guys to get another win 3) perception of VT football matter when it comes to OOC scheduling , game times and unfortunately recruiting

I absolutely want us to win this last game. Frank deserves it and I would hate to see him go out on a sour note. However, I agree with your thoughts about moving on. I think I have been ready to move on for years and to be able to do so with a seemingly excellent offensive coach, and BUD, is really exciting and has consumed most of my attention.

We had a black plastic wall phone into the early 90s, and I also grew up with a party line. Used to hate trying to talk to a girlfriend and hearing the neighbors pick up the phone and listen in.

I understand at the change was drastic for many. But it certainly makes sense. According to one of the developers, TH snipes were over 80% of attacks. (I've had my townhall outside my base since th6 probably).

I've typically used giants+wbs+healer+barbs+archers for my loot raids. I wouldn't consider that a power army, but it's certainly more expensive than throwing all barbs, archers, and gobs. I can still effectively use that army after the update. The biggest difference I've seen is the amount of loot available. It used to be really difficult to find 200k+ (I'm a TH9 now in crystal league). Now that's available on almost every other base, and you can frequently find 400k+ without much effort. So while it's true that people have to spend more resources to make armies, they should be winning a lot more loot when they do attack.

I did notice a ton of people dropping trophies - since I'm upgrading walls now, almost 30 attacks in a row were just dropping.

Something I forgot to mention on original post regarding War Battle Time - I think they should decrease the time back down to the original 3 mins for townhalls 1-7, maybe 3:15 for 8 & 9, and 3:30 for 10 & 11.

I am not a fan of the pace and space offense they are trying to run for exactly the reason you cited. They don't have the personnel for it. Even with Eddie they need to go back to the system from last season. They need to get back to a focused core defense where they keep opponents under 100 points a game and utilize Gortat and Wall to run the pick and roll offense that did so well for them last season. Having Beal and Porter out with injury and Nene creaking along in his last season in the league absolutely doesn't help. I had expected them to get more out of Dudley, Temple and Oubre at this point but those three have been sporadic at best to deliver. Last season the Wizards only allowed opponents over 100 points in only 32 games, and their record in those games was a dreadful 7-25. The rest of last season was 39-11 when keeping opponents under 100 points. So far this season the Wizards are 5-13 when their opponents reach the century mark. They are 7-1 when keeping opponents under that mark.

That was the difference between the old stormtroopers and new. The old stormtrooper army was just a bunch of clones. The new army is supposed to be a trained-from-birth army of military expertise. They made a quick statement about how these new guys were not clones of old. That makes a huge difference in the interpretation. Though I did say the same thing to my wife as we left, "I know the real reason Finn defected. He was too good of a shot to stay a stormtrooper!"

its believeable that he would be a badass with a blaster, as he has trained as a stormtrooper his entire life.

Did you see the first 6 movies? The only thing in sci-fi more predictable than a stormtrooper missing his target is a red shirt dying in Star Trek. I thought it was kinda funny that the only stormtrooper in history to be a good shot ends up being a defector.

And the whole bit about the stormtroopers being kidnapped as children and training their whole lives just didn't do it for me. They've never seemed competent enough for that. I've always assumed that those guys were conscripted and brainwashed into doing the Empire's bidding.

Nothing annoys me more about yesterday's game than how the entire team rewound the clock on their development and maturation so far this season. Seeing the individuals make the same mistakes that Buzz had put emphasis on to correct in earlier games just crushes my hopes against these last few OOC opponents and conference play.

But even still, I just try to hold onto the fact that is a relatively new team, and maturity doesn't develop overnight. Hopefully the embarassment yesterday sticks in their side and they play with the same agression they did against Radford when they play WVU.
