I think the 6 years Fuente has on his contract is perfect. I don't think it will take that long to see noticeable improvements. I suspect our offense will be humming about midway through 2017 and if Foster sticks around that long (why wouldn't he?) we should be a pretty scary team for just about anybody in 3 years or so. There is a lot more talent in Blacksburg now than there was in Memphis when Fuente took the reins there. I think we're going to be just fine in the football world.
My knowledge of basketball is limited. I know each team has 5 players. I know the floor is wood. Put the ball through the basket for points. That's about all I know.

# | CLASH OF CLANS major update - dislike, like, hate, tolerate, or despise I paid some just because I played a long time and wanted to pay something for their time to develop it. It's only fair. I'm not going to pay much.
To be fair, Buzz Williams had to completely re-build VT basketball. Anybody who thought it would go more quickly was a bit overoptimistic. His recruiting has been really good, but I'd give it another year or two before assessing it too much.
I'd expect the football rebuild to go more quickly, because it's not a total rebuild.
Oh, and you don't need to wait. You can enjoy the transformation, even if it's not as fast as you'd like. Remember, it's the journey, not the destination.

EDITOR'S NOTE: When I said "look nothing like what we see in Shreveport," I wasn't just meaning a different scheme. I also meant fielding an offense that doesn't look like it forgets how to football every 2-3 drives. A sputtering offense in the bowl would usually make me worried about the state of our offensive scheme and/or coordinator. That won't happen to me on Saturday.
There is such a premium put on 'downhill' drives to draw fouls, that the pull up game is non-existent except for Bibbs. It results in blocked shots, out of control looking drives, just some really ugly basketball at times. I'm not a fan of the style at all.

Beamer is a guy who made a difference.
Except on a motorcycle. Also from the bike you get a pretty good view of the state and then you see why the govt was so willing to give the land to away to Indian tribes. The southwest corner is gorgeous though, with Mount Rushmore and Custer state park.
Houston is also about to jump Chicago on the largest cities list (by population)
I think the idea is that someone with thousands of legs has contributed enough to the boards in the past that unless some egregious offense occurs they don't get instantly banned for something relatively minor.
Don't ever go to South Dakota. I flew into some stupid town in the middle of nowhere for some training and as we were descending I saw maybe 3 trees... That place sucks!

It definitely would be great for Frank and the seniors to go out on a winning note, but I won't be incredibly upset if we happen to lose. The last few weeks of the season were great for remembering and celebrating Frank's career, but I've moved on now. While last season was also disappointing, I was more interested in the bowl to preserve Frank's winning streak and build momentum for what seemed like a potentially great season this year. Now, I'm just ready to turn the page.
I'm incredibly excited for the new staff to close out the recruiting class and get to work with spring football. This will definitely be the most exciting spring in recent memory. So much talent returning on both sides of the ball, a ton of impact freshmen enrolling early, and we will get a complete look at the QB battle with everyone on campus starting this January.

I think Fuente will want to use the element of surprise to get as many advantages as possible against UT. He'll probably show some pretty basic stuff throughout the game against Liberty and then I'm hoping he'll mix in all kinds of new wrinkles and maybe a trick play or two against UT.

As for the lasting effect? I don't think I will care about the outcome of this game in 2 weeks much less 2 years. Fuente is coming in and I think the excitement around that will be enough to push a potential loss out of my head come January.

True enough, but I'm just anticipating the "why are we running jet sweeps still????" being posted the first time it happens. We should be able to simply out-talent Liberty, but when the offense doesn't look radically different, there will probably be some grumbling. Maybe not too much if we win 63-0 or something, but I could see it.
Realistically, I think the Wizards are kind of stuck in the middle right now - they don't quite have the pieces yet to play small ball at a consistently high level, but they also can't really wind back the clock to last year. That would require a healthy Nene, who played 67 games last year (his highest total since the 2010-11 season). They don't really have a replacement for him this year, since Gooden, Humphries & Hollins aren't the same type of player.
Right now, I think their roster is much better constructed to play a four-out system with Gortat as the anchor (and he's proven relatively durable the last few years). The thing with small ball is that adjusting the system will come with growing pains. People forget this now, but Golden State was turning the ball over a ton at the beginning of last season as they implemented Kerr's new philosophies. The Wizards have experienced a similar issue, at least prior to the rash of injuries.
With regards to Dudley, I have no clue what Wittman is doing (a recurring thought, so at least it's nothing new). Until injuries forced Wittman to play him more, Dudley hadn't played 30 minutes in a game within the first month of the season.
I also think Temple is the type of guy who's going to lose an NBA job pretty soon if he can't shoot the 3 at the same clip as last year (37.5%). He'd only surpassed that once during a very small sample size in San Antonio and he's barely over 30% this year. Oubre is still a rookie, but he looks like a promising player who's just getting way more minutes than the team intended.
When (and if) they're fully healthy, I think the ideal starting lineup is Wall-Beal-Porter-Dudley-Gortat with Neal, Eddie, Oubre, and Humphries/Nene as the ones to spell them in the rotation.

Two, Foster is going to use this game to learn more about his young guys. Three, despite the fact that there is a change of guard on offense and expected growing pains, the new staff still needs this film for evaluation, and to some extent figure out which players are reliable and strong. The more film, the better. I think there are seniors, Beamer, other coaches (Shane?, Lefty, Brown), that want to go out on a winning note.

ehh..maybe not the first game..definitely the second game though. I think Liberty is pretty bad and we should be able to beat them just on talent alone. I'm pretty confident even a Loeffler offense would do more than enough to beat them so I think Fuente's offense will look as good as any offense we've seen in Blacksburg since Vick. I think when we play a good team with equal or better talent (UT) we will start to see those growing pains a lot more

It involves one semester of part-time (2 days a week) and one semester of full time student teaching. I think there is an alternate version of the program that is without the student teaching - might have been what Brewer took. I'd imagine there's something like that anyways for current teachers that are taking classes while already teaching professionally.

I agree. I think we will see vast improvements in our football team next season. I do understand that Buzz didn't come into a great situation either but Greeenberg at least had us ranked for the first time in forever and we had some talent, he just couldn't win with it. I know its only been a few seasons for Buzz, I like Buzz, I think he is changing the culture and the wins will come.
