Joe, FYI, the link is broken. Fixed link

Got a good laugh at this:

The Pinstripe in New York wanted Duke and its Wall Street alums.

Nothing quite says "Duke football" like "we're counting on Wall Street bankers to buy tickets to a game against Indiana."

I'd up vote the meat of your point, but I'm not so sure about your opening analogies (re HC Bud and Noah).

(I typed a bunch of stuff after that and said "never mind, just let it go," and hit backspace.)

You should also feel bad for Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, Gene Chizik, Pat Narduzi, that guy from BC, Pruitt, Odom, Luke Fickel, and Jon Tenuta. They were also successful coordinators at successful programs, many of them loyal to their team or HC. They also didn't get their "fair shot" at the VT job.

Sometimes people believe in a thing so strongly they rationalize a 'reality' that supports their belief. Like, dinosaurs on Noah's Ark. Or: certainly Bud has been offered P5 HC jobs, he just turned them down.

I knew Bud wouldn't be offered the VT job. I'm ecstatic Bud stayed as DC. Now we have exactly what we need: an offensive minded HC, a modern, spread based, offense-first program, and a strong defense. Our model is now OSU and Clemson.

The reason Bud is not an HC: he has not been willing to do what people like Fuente, Herman, and Morris did - take a non-P5 HC job, prove yourself, and be better positioned to take the P5 opportunity when it arises. Had he done this five years ago he might be VT's HC right now. But I think it was more important to him to be VT's DC, remain loyal to Frank, and hope for the best.

1) The closest university is Louisiana State University, Shreveport (LSU-S), which from what I understand is known for the medical programs. You will also find Louisiana Tech an hour east in Ruston, and University of Louisiana-Monroe is another 30 minutes past Ruston.

2) I am married, but I work with a ton of single dudes, so from what I have heard: the local female population is "meh" at best. You will probably find cougars at the casinos and a mixture of locals and Air Force women downtown in the bar scene: Chicago, The Boot, Sand Bar, Blind Tiger, Phoenix Underground -- all of which are within walking distance of each other in downtown Shreveport. There is also Larry Flint's Hustler Club downtown if you give up looking, you will see the sign from a mile away.

One more thing: you will be competing with tons of single Air Force guys, so expect poor gender ratios at most places.

It does seem a bit strange to me too... maybe they ain't as smart as me and you? Or it could be that yes, even in this age of cutthroat college athletics, Memphis is recognizing Fuente's contribution to the university and is helping to make the transition as smooth as possible for him. I dunno. Plus, let's not forget that the new coach, Norvell, is from ASU and will likely bring his own staff anyways, so it's not like they're letting Vice out of a long-term contract or anything.

Another part I forgot.

If this were a year that the Orange Bowl wasn't a semi-final, then things could have gotten real interesting. If the ACC opponent in the Orange Bowl was a Big Ten team, then the ACC gets the Big Ten slot in the Citrus Bowl. Then, the order of selection would be CFP/NY6, Citrus Bowl, RAB, Tier 1, Tier 2.

Also, the tier 2 bowls are ranked in a way, but only for eligibility purposes. If there are still 3 teams left after the Tier 1 bowls select, then the ACC will send teams to the Military, Independence, and Quick Lane Bowls. This year, there were only 2 teams left, which is why there is no ACC team in the Quick Lane Bowl. If there were only one team available, they would go to the Military Bowl.

Certainly. Good matchups really get players hyped. It's kind of like playing Pitt. It's a dangerous game because regardless of how good or bad Pitt is I just don't see our players getting psyched about playing them.
