It opened it up for him in some regards because they were all fairly comparable skill-wise, meaning he didn't paint giant signs on the field for a pass or run depending on who was in the game. But he also didn't have anyone to key on either.
So one of these three? It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

I didn't realize the axe swung as far as Gentry, but I will say I have started to lose faith in him with all the injuries we have had in the last 3 years.

Burden is/was a new coach wanting to prove himself and none of these are his guys. So in his determination of the depth chart if none of these players are close to Ford or Cam then why would he play them for the sake of having a 3rd WR? Play the best you have and prove that you can elevate their game to even greater levels, then bring in your guys and repeat success.
not trying to say it is pointless to work with the other receivers in the group, because for sure he is, but again if the dropoff is significant then not shocking at all that no 3rd WR emerged. In fact seems wise that he focused on playing and elevating the game of 2 of the most dynamic WRs to ever attend VT.

I am not sure yet. I need to see the flow of several games to get a good feel. The only consistency I have found yet is that Fuente loves stick and curl routes to his slot guys. To me, he has way more talent to work with at VT, so I think he can take more shots down field.

Exactly. Fuente knows you need to keep the linemen from all sitting on one side of the train.

Just stopped by to wish you guys congratulations. A home run, there in Fuente! A great hire and seemingly a seamless fit with your culture. Just a note - when Urban Meyer was hired, he and our previous defensive coordinator & interim head coach for a year after Tressel was Luke Fickell. He & Meyer hit it off, Meyer retained him, and it was a huge plus for us. Fickell provided continuity on the defense & connections in recruiting. Keeping Foster could be just as huge for VT.
So, what do you say to a home & home again in 2018 & 2019? Or maybe let's just meet in the playoffs!
