The plan for VT was very good. But in watching this game you couldn't help but get the impression that one team was excited to play on that sloppy field, in driving rain, in that muck. They were excited to fly around and smash somebody, slide around a bit, and get up and do it again.

*SIGHS* Maybe we'll get back to this...

I think it makes it THAT much better that whit gave Fuente the option to keep bud rather than mandating it.

Im taking this as a sign that theyre going to get along great and conquer the world together.

WHERE ARE MY SUNGLASSES THE FUTURE IS TOO DAM BRIGHT!!!!

locksley has said he's leaving MD if he doesnt get the HC gig. He's not going elsewhere to coach TE. He's also not the type of guy I'd see Fuente hiring

Shane is not staying, it would be a miracle if he does stay

That would be a brown sauce...

I haven't had a chance to read through all the comments yet..but has Justin and the two assistants been asked the most important question yet...what's a Hokie?

Here's my take...

HC + QB - Justin Fuente

OC + QB - Brad Cornelsen (would be surprised if Darrell Dickey leaves Memphis.. he may be next HC)
OL - Vance Vice
TE + ST - James Shibest
WR - Zohn Burden
RB - Holman Wiggins

DC + LB - Bud Foster
DL - Charlie Wiles
LB - Ricky Hunley (would be very surprised if Galen Scott leaves the DC position at Memphis to coach LB under Bud... even if he is he best in the business)
DB - Torrian Gray

Shane unfollowed fuente on twitter, pretty lame.

It was after the Northeastern game back in 2006, a game in which we won 38-0. I was in the 3rd grade at the time. My dad and I won a contest on beamerball.com that allowed us to go to Coach Beamer's house after the game and meet the coaches and his family. After Cheryl Beamer blessing my little heart because I had just woken up from a nap in the car and talking to John Ballein about Eddie Royal's turf toe injury, I talked to Cornell.

While I don't remember it very vividly, my dad says to this day that I just peppered him with questions. I asked him about his playing days in Blacksburg, I asked him about playing against Michael Vick in the NFL, and I asked him several other things. My dad apologized to him because of all these questions, but he was completely okay with it.

Three years later in 2009, my dad and I were in Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Alabama. We arrived to the Georgia Dome about two hours before kickoff and spotted Cornell. My dad called him over and asked if he remembered me. He did. He then talked to us about Alabama and how he thought the game was going to go.

Cornell is a great guy, and I'm going to miss him on the staff. Thanks for your service, Cornell, and most of all, thanks for putting up with my third grade-self with such humility and class. I will always remember that day.

Didn't I hear/read somewhere that Shane Beamer is also being retained in some capacity? Recruiting, perhaps? I could swear I heard that he's staying.

I agree 100% with you. Would LOVE to play the Bucks on a regular basis.

The offer was just over Tubervilles 2.2 mil. and just under Hermans 3 mil. Something like 2.6 if I remember the article in the Commercial Appeal correctly. Also if I'm not mistaken that offer was extended before the Ole Miss win. I'm pretty certain Fuente felt this would be his last year at the UofM. I was asked today at lunch by a disgruntled Memphis fan how in the world a program like Memphis could join the ranks of the big boys if every coach with success jumps ship. I pointed out that this hasn't really been a problem around here since so few coaches have had success! It's awesome walking around in Hokies gear and having dozens of people tell you what a great coach we hired. Also pretty awesome just how much it seems Coach Fuente wanted this particular job.

It doesn't have the official thing beside the name, but Shane follows the @coachfuente twitter account. Like I said, I do not know if that's an official account, but it's something nonetheless.

Edit: Okay, I just looked at Coach Fuente's twitter again since he sent out the tweet thanking everyone for welcoming him, and Shane is not following him now.

You don't think Dickey is following Fuente after the bowl game?

I've got #sauces that Bud will be the DC

Thank you for starting it.

I think you could be right. Burden is somebody I could see being retained for various reasons but mostly he's a good coach. If Fuente has his guy, that's cool too. but hopefully this thread will be the place to find out!

... Yes, and the #sauce in that case was Brown himself.

Wiggins/rb, vance vice/ol, brad cornelson/oc, Mike locksley/te, burden/wr and ricky hunley or galen scott/lb

Sigh, here we go....another endless season with my hopes set stupid high. I already can't wait! !!
