A few observations from the live game:

In person, it looked like they couldn't buy a free throw or a 3-pointer. It also looked like the defense altered between being pretty good and non-existent.

If they had made their 3-pointers and their free throws, this would have been a close game.

Iowa State fans represented. They had a good number of fans there, mostly retired folks who likely winter in Destin. There were a lot fewer VT fans. I'd say less than 100. That said, it was good to see some VT fans there. I really hope VT basketball achieves some level of success, and starts to build a real basketball fan base. I have to admit, I took some family members, and didn't really have a lot of gear for them to wear, since most of mine is football jerseys...

Bud gets identified with the current leadership because he's part of the current leadership. It's no different than any other management structure.

You can say Bud isn't happy with the status quo, but then you have to wonder, what is it that he wants to change exactly, and why didn't it get addressed sooner? After all, Beamer doesn't seem like the kind of person who would turn down a good idea.

Anyway, all of this should be a part of the candidate vetting process, so I'm guessing Whit has gone through it thoroughly, and has better answers than we'll find on an internet forum.

I suppose the point of this thread is that the future leadership of the VT football program should be reviewed in a comprehensive way, and that it needs to be bigger than "Let's give Bud a shot because he deserves it." Whit needs to choose the best future leadership possible. Football today is a very, very competitive business, and you need every advantage you can muster.

Last year Brewer beat UVA throwing the ball with a jacked up throwing shoulder. Give me the Brew Crew in this game.

unfortunately, we're looking at a gimped Brewer or Motley at QB. I really don't want a gimped Brewer because a bad ankle means less mobile in the pocket and typically weaker throws (can't plant the same way). Unfortunately, I'm not overly confident in Motley under center, either.

No, as Egbert and I have both pointed out, the title of the thread was written directly to attack Bud Supporters, not Bud. I don't think being "too defensive" is fair, considering our presumed "fixation" and all. Most people here generally want him to stay, and know there's a chance he won't. That's a large percentage of fans diagnosed with "fixation" by a guy who stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

This is certainly a down year for our defense. We might be surprised to realize statistically we're actually 30th in YPG and 49th in ppg (with five periods of overtime skewing that PPG statistic dramatically). If we look at the top 10 teams (BCS ranking), we're still ahead of ND (38), Stanford (41), and Baylor (obviously, 65) in YPG, but only Baylor in PPG. Not a "championship caliber" season, defensively, but it's truly not bad enough to keep us out of it, either.

As Hokie fans, it seems like we're used to the Defense holding us in every game and making every important stop. We forget that the offense has to pull their weight, because frankly by and large they haven't. We don't have a Tyrod Taylor making magic happen to keep our point total higher than our opponents and winning 10 games in these last couple seasons. Our offensive "system" is not and has not been capable of "championship caliber" seasons for some time.

I don't see myself as having a "fixation" with keeping Bud. If I see something working well and somebody tries and convinces me that I'm wrong or silly with no actual rationale, I do get annoyed.

There are plenty of threads speculating on who the next hire might be that don't have Bud fans acting "too defensive" all over them, but he does get a lot of support/ well-wishes should he leave.

Congrats man!! We delivered our 3rd (also a boy, but only 8lb) the day of the Duke 4OT game. Here's hoping for a better (game) outcome for you!
