Mullen has been number 1 on my wish list the whole time just didn't think it was possible. Lots of speculation that it might not be the usual suspects though and may be a bit of a surprise and He would fit that scenario. Talk about a home run.....not believing anything until there is a press conference though.

# | Report: Dan Mullen is a Serious Candidate for next Hokies Head Coach And how could this damage their reputation. Their entire business is run on posting things anonymous sources tell them. Their whole business concept is not about getting it right, but about posting rumors out there that end up being correct often enough to give them the appearance of being experts (which, in their case, is already earned). There's an understood agreement in place that not everything they post will happen, because that's not the nature of their business. And if they are seriously questioned on who they got the information from, they will not answer, because the nature of their job prevents it.
It really would be entirely too easy for them to throw a nugget like this out there, and watch it become a major distraction for their opponent during rivalry week.
Having a good offense is certainly important, but the key is balance. Oregon was an all offense, no defense team and they got smacked in the title game when they ran into a balanced team. As far as us v. UNC goes as was the original issue brought up here, i don't buy that they're so much farther ahead of us that we can't compete with them for at least 3 years which is what the original comment stated. Losing Williams and Quinshad Davis next year instantly brings that offense down a notch. Also, i highly doubt Chizik is planning on staying UNC d-coordinator for an extended period of time so their defensive future is uncertain. If we can just get a top 50-60 offense with a new offensive minded coach to pair with a defense around 20, we're a solid top 25 team and will certainly be able to hang with UNC.
Yeah, I didn't catch major, I just kept reading it as "big" or "important" conference victory.

I heard on College Sports Nation the other day that if the playoff stays at four teams, ND will likely be forced to join, especially if they are left out one year. If they move to eight teams, which I think is inevitable, they will never join fully.

Whoever it ends up being, one thing I know for sure is that Whit is going to make the right hire. He is one of the best in the business all around. Buzz Williams hire, #ThisIsHome campaign, sending CFB off in style. He gets it. No disrespect, but imagine who our next head coach could be if Jim Weaver was still around?

Two counterpoints.. 1) that site generally has a reputation of reporting with integrity (as best you can with rumors & anonymous sources anyway). 2) Our own CWbtJ (used to work @ Miss. St.) has posted in this very thread that she's heard from her own connections that Mullen is looking to move on.
I would have suspended him for next year's opener.

As Warthog said, why would a site risk their reputation, one they've done a good job to form over 7 years now, to screw with an opponent? Only Mississippi State fans are playing that card.

Now I'm not saying he will be the coach but maybe this is what their #sauces are telling them. For any coaching news up until it's announced it all speculation. Things can change even the day of an announcement, just look at the whole Texas to the PAC 12, it just came out Texas had set up an entire press conference, even printing out handouts when it was cancelled that day.
Eh, I'm not going to keep quibbling. I think a 1/4 suspension would've been enough, just my 2c

You're not wrong, but these guys run a legit operation and are usually on top of things. While your theory could be correct, it's kind of ridiculous to do given the reputation they have.
