That's what I was telling people around me. UNC is going to score touchdowns in OT and VT's anemic offense wouldn't be able to keep up. May as well go for 2, for the lead with 1 minute in your last home game ever? That's the River Boat Gambler Beams I could get behind.

If a simple explanation so easily changes how you think of someone then perhaps you shouldn't judge an individual by his/her tattoos.

I agree with the Lefty comment. Homie knows too much and in the end it just jams up. To be fair, Lefty's had some flashes of brilliance here and there, but, it's just not enough consistent offense to win the games we should have won. We should have been sitting on a minimum record of 7-4 and not 5-6...

We all know that when the next HC gets here, our offense will finally take pressure off of Bud and the defense. The offensive culture will finally change and match the intensity of our lunch pail D.

To be fair, it's hard to get a stop in overtime, Ideally you'd like to hold to a FG, which we did in more than one instance in the games you mention

While there was a lot of good from this game, such as 73% free throws, double digit rebounding margin, seven blocks, and 50% from outside the arc all of which came in the second half as we went 6/9. Now onto the bad, nine turnovers from our point guards, 17 as a team, while only creating 8.Getting outrebounded on the offensive glass, as VMI had 17 offensive rebounds with a primarily mini man lineup. The one stat I found worst of all though was that Greg Donlon with his ejection had more of a statistical effect on this game than Jalen Hudson, who only managed to play 5 minutes and did nothing with it. I am hoping there is an injury we are not aware of or something that has caused this giant decline from last year. Something to justify where all that explosive talent went. The sad part about how little Hudson contributed was that he essentially was matched by Pierce tonight, who played a total of two minutes and was credited with two turnovers for the night. Some of these stats might have changed if we could have seized possesion earlier than we did, as we waited well into the last eight minutes before putting the game away.

I've already watched that play like 6 times thinking the exact same thing. Kid had a good day, though.

Speaking of that play, did anyone notice the UNC players getting in the face of the Hokie Bird after the TD? I hope I was just seeing things.

Anyway we can watch highlights of SMU and Houston games? Would love to see those offensive highlights without going through ESPN replays on their site.

Man, this is a sobering reality -- look at that list of teams. We lost to them all in OT. I remember when we could pretty much chalk each of those up as an easy win. Maybe not UNC, but certainly the others. Sigh....

All in all I left the game in good spirits. The loss was unfortunate but we had 14 unanswered to end the game which was a pleasant surprise. Something seemed weird about the game though as it was eerily quiet at times but really loud others. I'm sure it was probably just the weird mix of emotions surrounding the last game for Beamer + the players but it was strange.

I wouldn't have missed it though and I'm glad I'll be able to tell my kids that I was there for Beamer's career and saw his last game in person. He seems genuinely happy at this point and that's not something I've seen in him in recent years. I'm just glad I got to be a (very small) part of his legacy.

It was completely on the defense that never seemed to cover a TE or WR on third down for them. It was completely on the defense that allowed Hood to walk in untouched to the end zone, twice. We can both call out things that went bad. My point was that both sides had good and bad. The game is over and it doesn't benefit anybody to blame anybody. The team is not immune to social media. They played their hearts out and now need to get ready for UVA.
