We are 1-4 I believe this year when we have been within 7 pts of the opponent in the last quarter. We were 2-5 last year. The point is when the game gets close at the end, we can't close out. I think that's what Musky is getting at.

Personally I had a gut feeling we would lose when it went into OT. I had the same feeling in the Duke game. Unlike previous VT squads I don't really feel like the team has what it takes to shut the door at the end. Lack of a killer instinct if you will.

I put that on the coaching though, not the kids. They played their hearts out to claw their way back after being down 14 with 6 minutes to go.

The defense didn't go backwards on UNC's 12 out of field goal range. The defense didn't give 1 (or 2?) fumbles and 2 INTs, one of which happened in field goal range. The defense didn't have a punt blocked and FG missed.

You're correct that you can't put the blame all on one side, but it's clear that it was our offense and special teams that lost us the game. UNC's PPG average was 42 coming into the game. We held them to 30 in overtime. We should have won, and that would have happened if our O or ST had stepped up more than if our defense had improved.

On the one hand, Elliott is being a bit of a punk.

On the other, there some truth in what he says. Playcalling has been an issue all season, and they are really missing Herman.

Clarke is really going to be a special player. It's easy to see his effort is off the charts. He is always flying around diving for loose balls and that's a testament to the type of player he is and the coach he plays for. Gotta love Buzz.

Bucky has ended up with a really unfair situation. Dude that had never played Tight End before that learned how to play really quick with his incredible size and skill set. Figuring out how to be proficient and looking physically imposing is one thing. Learning how to become an elite receiver in college football is a completely different thing. He needs time to learn as well as a coach that is able to tell him that being 10'12" with impressive speed does not make him an elite college football player.

He screams loser, but we all know damn well he would have welcomed Frank to Tar hole nation back with open arms back in 2000.

I think he has an amazing upside, of course, due to his God-given size and athletic ability. He certainly has the potential to be a tremendous NFL TE. But, I agree with you in terms of where he is right now. I know he is still learning the position, so I can understand that. If he gives himself 100% to the pursuit, I don't see a reason he couldn't reach that potential. Maybe we'll see him develop more next season. It's a shame, though, as I think many of us had higher hopes for his play this season.

At UNC they call their participation trophy a degree!

I still don't understand the hype for Bucky. Everyone calls him a match up nightmare but I can't remember the last time he caught a ball above shoulder height. I don't think he is going to be consider a legitimate game changing player until he can reliably learn that. Hopefully he can, he's still young.

Yep. It was a poor choice if tattoo because it is inferred he is talking about himself as Gods Gift where he likely is trying to give thanks to God for his gifts.

Okay that's helpful. If that's what the tattoo is really intended to convey, it does change how I think of him. But, it doesn't change the inconsistent effort I see in him. Nor does it help me understand how he could be out of shape this late in the season.

Yes, I wanted to call him out. Hence, the post. I have watched every game he has played, and I don't see consistent effort from him in particular. It's what I see. Period.

But, as I said in the OP, perhaps there is an explanation that I'm not aware of. I'd like to think he is giving 100% to the team. I just don't see it in his play, so I'm left scratching my head.

I'm disappointed in GA Southern punting on short and medium with ~40 seconds left. Woulda loved to see those guys go for the win instead of playing for OT.

The tattoo is confusing the issue.

He's not stating with that tattoo that he is Gods Gift, he is stating that any talent he has is a gift from God and he should not waste it or take it lightly.

I know that it's easy to misunderstand the meaning but, there it is.

Also tied the single season receiving TD record for Tech with his 9th TD of the year

Got a stern talking to from a VA state trooper today for yelling that very thing.

I get this is a joke but there's a line and IMO this crosses it
