Lawson isn't RS'd though. The coaching staff have stated that that was never the plan for him.
Lawson because he's a massive frame and has been anointed savior of TKP message boards.
This is gold.
this just made my day
I wasn't going to go back and watch the game to see if I was right or not (because it wouldn't matter anyways) but my ego thanks you for this.
Agree to a certain extent. Loeffler isn't going to come out and say, "Welp, it's Motley's turn so we're basically screwed." As a coach I dont think you have much of a choice but to back the guy whether he truly does or not.
It's always not best to throw a young, inexperienced quarterback into the fire. I'm not gonna pretend like I've seen Lawson or Durkin play live; I've only seen a highlight tape and I could make Uncle Rico look like Andrew Luck with one of them. So, I'm not gonna speculate on to why the depth chart is as it is. It's clear from Brewer's play that he was far and wide the best quarterback we had.
As a coach, not that I have experience (more so common sense), you have to put your players into a situation where they can succeed. That was never gonna happen regardless of the QB we threw out there. Motley obviously know the playbook, and showed he could move the ball a little on the drive that ended in a fumble that really turned the game.
I've never been particularly sold on Motley. I love quarterbacks who can run, but he's more of the Logan Thomas power run, than a Tyrod Taylor elusive run. Let's see if he can move the sticks against Furman. If so, I'll be thrilled for him. I'd also like to see Durkin and Lawson live. I'm intrigued by both of them. Durkin for his Tebow-like frame and wildcat ability. Lawson because he's a massive frame and has been anointed savior of TKP message boards. Awaiting to see if the prophecy has some merit.
Either way, I'm behind whatever QB it is. It ain't a great situation, but it'll be interesting.
I am a big Pittsburgh Pirates fan. We have a young right fielder named Polanco. Early in the season, he was really struggling at the plate. The manager sat him down and asked if he was worried about being sent back to AAA. He said he was and was pressing. The manager told him to quit worrying he was staying with the big club and they would work out his problems in Pittsburgh. With that pressure off, he settled down and starting batting 300 and getting key hits. Loefler is trying to do the same with Motley; Motley needs to be confident he is the QB. Motley needs to be able to concentrate on playing the game and not be looking over his shoulder to see who is gaining on him to start. If Loefler cannot make that commitment to Motley; then he might as well start preparing Durkin or Lawson as QB1.

Agreed. I want to see Lawson and McMillan together; they are our future.
Good teams exploited Motuapuaka LAST year.
The hope was for growth this year.
It may also be that Bud's adjustments just exposed him more (fingers crossed?).
It's a key position and a difficult job.
I understand being upset about the missed call, but those things happen. It was a big missed call given the positioning of the ref. To me it's just an excuse that overshadows what actually happened on the play...a lack of execution. It's a team game, and French exposed multiple breakdowns on that play. You can't be successful when a 1/3 of your players on the field miss assignments or are getting straight manhandled. I expect to see a much improved defense going forward. I've never been in a film room before, but I bet people got served some mammoth slices of humble pie.
Harsh but I don't think he's wrong...

Sean Salisbury is a joke. He once got in a twitter war with me when he made fun of Logan Thomas and I made fun of his boot from ESPN. He is nothing more than click bait with a voice.
Not unless the redskins have the 2nd pick, in which they will trade their 1st round pick in perpetuity to the Browns to be the 1st pick.

Moto is plain not good. He has had a ton of chances to prove himself and has fallen short every time. Use the Furman game to find alternatives otherwise teams like GT and BC can run all over us.
Personally as far as Loeffler goes, I was thoroughly impressed with his play calling against OSU and the progress Brewer showed since last season. Calling for his job or wanting to replace him in any fashion is the furthest thing from my mind and I think he is just what we need as an offensive coordinator.
silver lining: we get a chance to really evaluate Lefty by what he does with the rest of the season. Loeffler apologists could say he lost is QB if things go downhill and that might be a valid excuse, but I, for one, am hopeful that things will go pretty well in Brewer's absence and we can stop the discussions about dumping Lefty (until CFB retires).

once the Browns have/win the #1 pick I fully expect them to screw this one up big time..
I won't be on for the chat but I have a comment related to the whole Lawson redshirting....If he is the best then play him. But remember in 98 Fall season we struggled with Al Clark, Meyer at QB but then reshirting Vick was the best decision because next year we were dominating. I think keep the red shirt on him.
Great writeup. Amazing teams like OSU expose your weak links. I think most of the holes are addressable against ACC, except the mike spot. I hate to be down on a player, but man that was bad....
Still optimistic for this season. Think this team has the right core to be good, just going to need some young guns to step up.

Utah -13.5 (USU beat SoUtah 12-9 last week with a late punt return for TD)
ND -11.5 (easiest pick of the year so far. I'd take ND -20)
OU (Hate this pick, thinking UT is still not there with their defense and that OU RB will get 200)
Sparty -3.5 (don't like that Oregon mini-QB, nor their defense)
MSU +3.5 (don't like this one either, but LSU winning by a FG seems like a likely result, or MSU winning)
BYU +2.5 (Boise is overrated at this point, BYU underrated. Bronco Mendenhall with more galloping)
