I'm glad VT is on his list, but it's pretty clear he's just collecting offers, so it's difficult to take him seriously.

Offer him a trip out. If he shows up, he's interested enough to make an offer.

They had 312 yds before Brewer's injury, 260 yds after Brewer left the game. They only had 52 yds in the 2nd qtr because of their 2 turnovers.

I'd be inclined to rank us somewhere in the 30s for now. I don't understand the doomsday view many people took after the clock hit zeroes on Monday. Yes, Motley looked uncomfortable. He was in a terrible situation, so I'll give him a pass for that. But he has to improve rapidly, and he has the potential to do it. This team still has a higher than expected ceiling if we can get our quarterback to settle down and run the offense. Yeah, the defense gave up a lot of big plays and seemed to just quit by the fourth quarter. But many of the mistakes came from places we kinda knew they would (Stroman in coverage, Motu reading gaps and tackling, Frye not being Reavis). The one play that really made me mad was Kendall on that stop n go. But I'm not convinced he was at 100% physically at that point in the game. The defense can still be great, and if anyone can light a fire under them, it's Bud. So right now, mid-30s. By November, there's enough potential that mid-teens is not out of the question. It all comes down to how the team moves forward from Monday.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Motley. He has never been in the position to have to be the leader, never started a stretch of games and doesn't take a ton #1 reps in practice. He does have some abilities, now we get to see him hone in his skills over the next three weeks (against opponents we should beat). The schedule is working in our favor right now for having had one of the worst possible scenarios happen.

I also hope that people continue to be patient with Lefty as he is now working with his third starting QB in as many years on the staff. Tough task.

God Hokies!

I like the fact that Coach Loeffler is publicly stating his confidence in Motley. It's a huge relief as a player to know your coach believes in you to get the job done.

It seems that all of the coaches are in agreement with Lawson: great arm, special speed, but needs more reps & time in the film room to correct mental errors. Looking forward to seeing who emerges at the top in the upcoming weeks.

The decision will be if the "clear QB" while Brewer is out is still the "best QB" when Brewer is back. Hard to know. Playing a guy to keep his ego satisfied is wrong. Playing a guy who the coaches believe will give you the best chance to win is right.

I wouldn't have a problem with him coming back in and starting. Although, I also wouldn't have a problem with Motley, Durkin, or Lawson coming in and tearing it up and playing out the rest of the season.

WINNER!

I'm not really all that worried about Furman, but the better teams on the schedule are likely to pick up on the weaknesses French has identified, and exploit them.

Combined with the impact of missing Brewer on offense, I'm not quite as optimistic about VT football this year. Bud will need to shore things up a bit, but I'm sure he can make the right adjustments. Don't know what the answers are, but the defense is only as strong as it's weakest link.
