They didn't sling it to the WR's that much even with the #1 QB. I think we continue to hit the TE's and the RB's.
That's not even accurate. VT is as geographically diverse as ever. If anything, our problem is that we aren't landing enough VA kids, or at least the right ones.
Funny enough, this was EXACTLY what I said (and pretty much how I said it), when UVA took the lead late in the game last year.
Then Michael Brewer did Michael Brewer things, and now I'm sad again.
Am I the only one concerned about Kendall? He definitely didn't look like himself out there. Just a bad game or something more? Facyson didn't look too hot either.

I'm happy being a regional power and I don't see where we are telling our fans we want to be a national power. Maybe in passing, we may occasionally say we are competing for a national title, but I don't see where we make decisions that demonstrate we really hold that as a core goal. It's like the Red Sox saying they are still in playoff contention, even though they are 7.5 back with 24 to play. You keep saying you can make the playoffs because it sets the right tone for getting work done, but you don't really believe it.
I don't think its harmful. You can have people in your fanbase that think you should have OSU level talent. That's fine. It's not going to happen, but its an appreciation of what elite talent looks like that will get us click our star rating from 3.75 to 3.85. That's just getting better at what you do. That's cool.
Based on what I saw against OSU, I could honestly have seen a Brewer-led VT making the playoffs this year, regardless of the outcome.
I really want to agree with you here, but I'm so torn. On one hand, I think our lack of depth in key defensive positions will hurt us in the Coastal gauntlet. On the other hand, if FSU can go undefeated last year with the holes they had in the depth chart, then we certainly could have rolled the ACC this year if the cards fell correctly.
Hell, I still think we can roll the ACC this year if Lawson steps up huge. I'm not counting on it, though.

I think something that a lot of people are overlooking is the fact that Durkin might be listed ahead of Lawson n the depth chart (Durkin OR Lawson) if they had a package for Lawson for the first game I believe that gives him the advantage.

Our Coaches are spending a lot of time coaching because we get 3-star recruits who we turn into 4-5 star on their way out, but we don't spend nearly as much time or money on recruiting. Hopefully hiring these extra office personnel will help with that. But let's be honest, we don't have the depth in a lot of places and putting guys out there who aren't ready can cause the team to make a lot of mistakes. Its a sad state but it's time we need to change the way we are recruiting. Bottom line, we need to get better.
Also certain Policies such as no transfers from Junior colleges hurt us. Some of the southern schools and Mid-westerners rely on those guys to keep their programs going.
Depth is being addressed, wr has no depth this yr but they bring in 5 receivers next yr, tackle, they have 2 and are in the mix for a few more, lb they have several commits and finally def end, last yrs class will help and hopefully they add atleast 1 more in this class to the 1 commit they have. We are deep at all other spots minus those but we only have a couple 4* guys, somehow, someway they have to do a better job getting more higher rated talent and I'm afraid with not knowing beamers future at tech that will be tough.

VT is almost always higher in the recruiting rankings than Louisville, TCU & Baylor - including the most recent 2015 class. So what exactly is your point?
excellent question! I hope we pound the rock, and mix in a few passes to keep the defense honest. GT does it quite successfully, albeit with a very different offensive formation and scheme.
There would be nothing wrong with Hansen playing. He's a solid RT who is a bit gimpy coming out of fall camp, and who struggles against elite pass rushers. I'm certainly hoping he isn't done for the year by any stretch.
We aren't right now, but that's really only because we are handcuffing ourselves in the process. There's no reason we can't set our sights on being one of those programs, and doing what it takes to get there. Won't be an overnight process, but we are becoming a very large university pumping out a ton of alumni every year who, for the most part, are going into jobs that pay them above what alumni bases of our peers make. Really, the single biggest reason we're not competing on an even playing field of one of the big boys right now is that for the longest time we got complacent with the status quo.
The good news is, we're still on good footing, and we have people in positions throughout our Athletic Dept to take that next step and start acting like the big boy of the Mid-Atlantic that we became over the past 20 years. We have a ton of unrecognized potential, and the second we start attempting to realize it, our program will reach heights we didn't think it could.
I know that they use wristbands at South Carolina. Their North Endzone section has dedicated entrances and when you get in you are given a wristband. If you are caught in that section w/o a wristband you are thrown out of the game. A system like this could work at VT and would eliminate the UVAesque gap at the top of the SEZ.
It will become much harder to pound the rock, even accounting for the improvements along the OL, if opponents are putting nine in the box. The new starter has to prove himself a viable passer, if only off play-action, for the run game to improve this year.

Makes sense. I think you're probably right about the system and risks when you don't get those players. Also, couldn't agree more on UVA wasting talent, so frustrating. I went back through the schools ranked above us in recruiting and they make sense for the most part. So its really about some of the obvious gaps. Probably also the fact that sometimes players don't work out. In a VT case that's a much bigger deal than OSU, where you're just stacked top to bottom. I'm hoping that we're moving in the right direction and just have some holes to fill still.
