Motley came in ice cold against the best team college football has seen in a long time. Let's see if he can move the sticks against Furman/Purdue before we start calling for the 3rd and 4th stringers.

I do not understand how VT can enter a season with such a weak backup QB.

It's easy to pop off when you're winning. They didn't do this at all last year and we had two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties after our last two TD's in Columbus for celebrating. What can you really say?
What are the odds we burn Lawson redshirt now?
I mean I know we are all waiting for another MV7 or TT to come out of the woodwork. But even TT had a freshman outing against LSU in 2007. Burning that redshirt early didn't help.
The guy who had more in-game reps than Motley was Leal and he left our program. Motley did good with the reps he took against anOSU and big credit to Lefty for building something for that late touchdown.
What Lefty has done is respectable and he is working with what he has and he knows that we can't burn Lawson's redshirt this year. I'm interested in seeing how Durkin and Motley look in the Furman game.
It took a miscommunication and clean tackle by A. Washington to break Brewer's collarbone and get him out of the game. That's bad juju crap there for an offense like ours purely purely sucks.
Pass protection was much better. Nijman was good assignment-wise in the run game. Hansen wasn't terrible run blocking but struggled against Hubbard.
I think, barring injury, Nijman-Teller-Gallo-Conte-McLaughlin is the OL for at least the foreseeable future.
I am thrilled for Nijman. I really tried to underscore my worry about him in the spring. Frankly, he was awful in every way you could be awful in game action. For the kid to come in there in that kind of a situation and be solid is a huge achievement. I love to be wrong when a kid steps up like that. Huge kudos to him.
So who else is solid behind Moto? Some of our new guys look ok, but we really haven't any "super studs" at MLB. Oh well, only the first game. We'll see what next week brings.

What a tough circumstance for the guys. We very much had OSU in our grasp but no team in the country can go 3 and out repeatedly and keep pace with that team.
Braxton Miller was much more of a factor tonight that I thought he'd be and man, he was outstanding at times. That spin move will be played over and over and over for the next 1.5 years so....ya know....be mentally prepared to relive this one for a while.
We did what no one thought we could do in the 1st half and that is something to be proud of. We should be right in the mix for the coastal and I am really looking forward to it!

Motley was very indecisive. But dammit, he probably hasn't had meaningful practice reps in a month, and had to go in cold against fucking OSU. Let 's be patience. I believe in the kid. He can scoot, and I've seen him throw a prettier downfield ball than Brewer.
I can't wait to see the "suck it haters" meme back up and running with Motley's face instead of LT's.
That's the worst. The feeling when you see a starting qb go down. It's sick, that feeling. Prayers to the kid and his speedy recovery and hope to the Hokies. You may find a diamond in the rough through all of this.

Its a game of momentum and emotion - and ours was swept away with Brewer - you could feel it.
Gutted for Brewer. We had a fighting chance with him leading the charge. Won me over against UVa last season. Not saying we'd have held on, but I was confident that we'd have a chance to take a 4th quarter lead. Really not fair to judge Motley, but I think it's a three horse (on a treadmill) race.
Think Motley gets the start, but if he can't move the chains against Furman, I think he'll be on a very short leash.

Leaving the bar tonight, an alley cat sensed my despair, so it got a tummy rub in the process of my getting back to where I needed to be. It actually helped the mood quite a bit.

Thank you guys for the respectful way you have conducted yourself here. That is a great win tonight for your team. While I hate the outcome, I was glad to see a good kid like Miller have some great moments after not getting to finish up the way he wanted at QB last year. I am feeling pretty ill right now, but beside my dislike for Meyer, I have nothing bad to say about tOSU and their fan base.
I am proud of this Hokies team. They stood up and put up a good fight even when the captain of the ship went down. It was a dogfight most of the game. Defense was ugly; but to contain this loaded Ohio State team was no small feat either. Hope Brewer gets well soon. Let's go Hokies!!!
Don't really think Loeffler deserves a lot of credit for quarterback recruiting. He's only recruitied one dynamite quarterback prospect since he's been here and that's Lawson. All the rest our mid-tier, 3* guys. Could be good, but not expected.
Andrew Ford has already left and never really looked impressive in open scrimmages. Chris Durkin has been inconsistent, and if you don't like Motely, he's unable to beat him out. The only bonafide star that other programs really wanted is Lawson.
Don't want to be a negative nancy, but just can't give Loeffler a lot of credit for quarterback recruiting because I have yet to see it in his three years here.
From your perspective what was the improvement when nijman came in?
He had a tackle on Elliott straight-up.
Come to think of it, our starting DBs tackled relatively well tonight.
Brewer being out for 4-6 weeks is a huge blow to the Hokies. With him (from the way he played tonight) and our schedule, I was very confident that this could be one hell of a season (10 wins) regardless of the OSU game result. I'm really worried about this. I just dont think Motley is the answer. I have no idea about Durkin, and my best guess is that he's no better than Motley since they didnt even give him a chance tonight. Dwayne Lawson?
