We had some pretty rough games in there for sure. It is watching the defense play which shows how we are different. Just like we are a match up nightmare for certain offenses (OSU last year), some offenses are a match up nightmare for us to go against. They are usually the power running teams who line up the beef and come right at us. ECU was the outlier because of a really poor first quarter.

I mean, we were starting a guy who was playing DIII football a year earlier) is that Bosa knocked Brewer into the 2016 season at the end of the game, and he never really recovered over the remainder of the year.
I agree with you, but I understand the argument that maybe TT could've given us the offensive fire power to get around Clemson twice in 2011.
However, TT contributed a lot in 2007. Without TT, I believe we could have lost to FSU or UVA. TT also had a huge contribution against Clemson that year IIRC. If Settle or Lawson can come help us win games that we may otherwise lose, then they should play.

Tyrod posted almost 300 yards total against FSU, and a bit under 200 against Clemson, and 2 TD's against UVA (in a game we won by 12).
If Lawson/Settle can have THAT kind of an effect on a game, they need to play. I am not ok with benching a talented recruit and potentially taking three losses just to potentially have a shot at getting a shot to possibly appear in the playoffs.

Based on that and the injuries, I feel Barrett maybe the best fit week 1. Though, I still believe Jones can get us to higher levels the rest of the season.
I seem to recall we were already running a mix of Marshawn and Shai in week one.
Edit: Forgot we gave JCC a bunch as well.
Lawson as an OR already shows how special of a player he is. I have a sneaky feeling he will be that 3rd QB and Durkin will be the Wildcat guy.
In other news don't know if it was posted here but Lawson has been Scout team QB for anOSU.. seems fitting.
I agree with you. Most teams College and NFL use 2 RBs, change of pace back, power back, etc. I am just saying we have at least 4 talented backs, that doesnt mean we need to play all 4 in a game just to do it. We have seen that before with this team. The RBs cant get into any type of rhythm with that plan.

I agree with your statement in regards to the END of last years season. On the other hand, from the beginning-middle of the season, Shane and Co shuffled a lot.

Last year he beat Facyson across his face which I am sure Bud will be preaching to these kids that it cannot happen. Not saying that Thomas can't and won't do it, just saying there won't be many opportunities.
Surprised by the lack of Cline and the listing of Lawson.

# | Bud Foster: Virginia Tech defense is " more aggressive and twitchier" than Wisconsin, Bama, Oregon ECU did all their damage in the 1st quarter and attacked (wisely on their part) an injured Facyson (who didn't play the rest of the year). I'd have to look at the numbers on GT but Bud usually holds them to their season low in rushing when we play them. Brewer threw some AWFUL picks, including a pick-6 that set them up for the win. Against Miami we had a new Mike in and they just manhandled us. BC was probably the worst defensive performance of the season. As for Cinci, we gave up yards but not points which I think Bud is perfectly fine with.
The biggest weakness of Bud's system is when we play big OLs (which is typically Pitt, Miami, and BC). If you can get a push on the smaller DL then you can usually have a good day against Bud.
I believe OSU has had non-starting QBs listed as captains before, so it really doesn't. That being said, I still believe Barrett is their guy.

Reading on your guys defense, I guess the good thing for Buckeye fans is that Michael Thomas will be left 1 on 1 in Bud's scheme. While I am not expecting an all world night, I do thing he maybe able to take a slant and go to the house like last season. Just got to make the first guy miss...
I think that this has flown under the radar a bit this offseason... The CB are about to be VERY good with Fuller and Facyson both at full health
Not said with any ego about it, but I have a feeling that Bud knew that Barrett was going to be the starter all along and has been planning for it all along.
Teller is the starting LG, thank you sweet baby Jesus.
The answer is simple: Redshirt. There is no need to rush him into the system when we have 3 QBs that have more experience, all with "good" skill sets of their own able to play if one or more of them get hurt.

I know statistically that you guys had a great year last year defensively. But I don't see too much that set you apart from the other great defenses of 2014.
Specifically the ECU, Georgia Tech, Miami, Boston College and Cincy (included because of 500 yards) games.
Were there a lot of injuries on defense in those games? Or was the offense just putting the d. in bad spots?
While I respect Bud, who is probably the best in the business, I guess I'm trying to understand what makes the Hokies so much better than every body else (is what seems to be the theme from you guys).

It is great to see Brandon Facyson back starting at CB alongside Fuller. Lets hope they both stay 100% healthy.
