Which totally explains why he said he's coming back to school because he wants to be the first in his family to earn a college degree...when he could've, ya know, gone to the NFL and been picked within the first 3 rounds. Already down in OSU history as a legend. Never have to worry about school ever again since he hates it so much. He's just there to get ready for exactly what he's passing up on right now. Right?

He's never had any academic issues outside of being suspended for a game for Tweeting that. He's maintained a GPA above 3.0 and he was actually named one of the schools scholar athletes weeks after that Tweet. Or whatever you said, I guess.

I think we are a 10 win team. I agree that injuries can derail what can be a good season quickly. However I'm not taking that until said injury happens. If it does happen then I'll reevaluate the rest of the season and see where we can win and lose.

But with all the write-ups in the spring and fall camp and no serious injuries as of yet I can't go ahead and assume that we will lose someone key and lose a couple games because of it. Again, when that injury happens I'll re-adjust my outlook. But with a healthy team that we have right now I'm expecting 10 wins and a trip to the ACCCG.

In all fairness, Jack Tyler was a ninja when it came to fitting through gaps. Not many players could do that as well as he did.

I am a Russian Prince who needs to hide some money during this big downturn, if you give me your checking account I will deposit...

Just a note, but WR screens against press man corners whose main responsibility is the pass is not a recipe for success. I think flare passes to the RB/HB like OSU ran versus Kent State and Maryland is much more likely.

I agree that they will probably score. I mean it's pretty hard for teams to completely deny other teams (exculding garbage time scores). I agree that if we can score slightly more than them that will decide it but obviously that can be said about every single game. If you look at my comment below, if we would have made on of the field goals we kicked into a TD we would have won that game. That was nowhere out of reach for us and I believe we should have won it. Voytik was a surprise to us I believe and he kept them in the game. He had 119 yds rushing.

I worry about Cardale and if those guys bring him down. He's a big dude and can blow up the numbers advantage we're talking about. I did just say I work about JT because he can be a runner. So..I'm just worried.

which is still strange after teller was the OL MVP last year despite starting the fewest games of the group...would think if anything the gap between him and the rest of the starters may be shrinking not the gap between him and the backups.

No they didn't. According to the box score Pitt VT 2014 box score Connor had under 100 yds rushing and 2 tds. Boyd had under 100 yds receiving and a TD.

What killed us was our offensive ability or inability to score. We didn't get into the endzone until the 4th qtr. We were 2 of 14 on third down. We won the turnover battle. If we could have turned one of those field goals into a TD we win. If the TD pass that Boyd scores on isn't botched by the safety we score. Forgot who it was but he took a bad angle on what would have been a pass break up at worst but was looking like an interception and collided with the cover man. Boyd catches it and strolls into the endzone un-touched. If there was one player on that team that won the game for them it was the QB Voytik. He routinely kept drives alive and had 118 yds rushing that game. Contain him, deny Connor and force Boyd to beat the best cover duo in the country. As long as our offense can score points we should win that game.

We could have definaltely won that game. Now, Duke Johnson dismantled us. Connor did not neither did Boyd. If the offense is slightly better than last year and the defense is better no way we should lose that game.

This is evidence that Searels isn't putting Teller with the 2's to build depth, but rather because the gap between Teller and the backups is shrinking. Loeffler confirms Teller is being "pushed" by Osterloh.

As I said in my scrimmage review, it makes absolutely no sense for Searels to be this fluid with his offensive line this late in the offseason unless he has some questions about who his starting five is going to be.

a qb coming off injury may get rattled much easier in his first game back than a qb who just won a natty, JMO.

I agree and I think VT's gameplan should reflect that as well. Braxton is an outstanding ball carrier, but who knows what the adjustment to a new position will bring. It's more of an unknown than what Zeke and the O-line can do. If I'm BF, I'm focusing on the run and taking my chances with Braxton at a new position. No spies, doubles, anything like that.

I don't know if Braxton will be effective in the passing game. If I had to guess they wouldn't throw anything further than 5 yards down the field to him. I imagine he'll be getting most of his use in motion and out of the backfield. Miller's current injury is one of rotation, not of impact. The reason he's moving positions is because his shoulder isn't in throwing shape and he can't effectively compete for the strating job. His injury concerns are somewhat legit, but I think they're also blown out of proportion a bit. In my opinion, he's much more susceptible to injury as QB. We used to run something called the "Braxton Save Us" offense whenever a game would be tight. He'd get 20+ carries per game and he'd be subject to taking big hits in the pocket (which is where his shoulder injury came from, getting drilled as he throws). With this new role, he should be getting fewer touches and less wear and tear. He'll also be getting the ball in positions where he can get downhill and just be a running back and give out some of the punishment instead of being a scrambling QB trying to keep plays alive and just taking punishment. He's a big fella himself at 6'2" 220lbs. Not to mention if you find ways to get him the ball on the edge and screens, you're talking about him squaring up vs corners and safeties with linebackers chasing. Not going head on at linemen and linebackers starting from inside the box every time.

That's why I hope JT doesn't start. I feel like Meyer had something going with QB runs and scrambles (i.e. number equalizing plays) but went away from it for whatever reason. I know you don't want your QB getting nailed, but I remember several big runs being ripped off.

I present for your consideration 2014's Staff Predictions:

Joe Lanza 9–3
Alex Koma 10–2
Mark Trible 8–4
Jonathan French (french60wasp) 8–4
Mason Naumann (3rdand31) 11–1
Brian Marcolini 9–3
Billy Berlin (BilldozerVT) 10–2
Pierson Booher (PhillyHokie007) 10–2
TheFifthFuller 12–0
Joel Smith (joelestra) 9–3

I think everyone deserves a pass on the WF game as nobody expected the Hokies to screw that pooch, so Trible and French were right on the money, but I think we all were hoping FifthFuller would be Nostradamus. Check the article to see who predicted Josh Stanford to be the breakout player...

Like others have said, I'm sure this is all just trying to find out what other combinations of OL work well together. As we've always seen, injuries for everyone are going to happen - not just OL, so he could also be looking to see who run/pass blocks together the best if there are any other injuries (i.e. Brewer or some receivers). I like it especially when they still have 2 weeks to hammer down the rest of what they need to.

Stay with me here, maybe it was to give Teller some time used to working with less talented teammates so he can shoulder more of the load, or maybe to get him more work in against 1st line DL, where he is going against the best we have to offer? Just thoughts.

With an injury or two I could actually see this team being below .500.

Lets not forget this team's last three games involved

1) Losing to Wake Forest
2) Was losing to UVA with just over two minutes to go in the game
3) Pulled away from Cinci only after knocking their starting QB out of the game

In a best case scenario, I see this team easily being a 10 win team. For that to happen though we'd need to see improvements from every position group on the offense. Considering Tech's injury issues over the past couple seasons, I don't expect the team to remain completely healthy. An injury to either Ford, Phillips, or Hodges would be devastating because of the complete lack of depth at the WR position.

Truth be told, I think 8-4 is fairly optimistic.

So, you don't like playing Navy. We play GT every year and feel the same exact thing. The triple option takes a lot of prep and can derail defensive momentum from week to week. However, we deal with it every year so vocalizing your concern will fall on deaf ears here.

I have to agree. I really like the GT poster(s). The yellow jackets remind me of an old Wu-Tang clan video.

Of course, those cutting-edge mid '90s graphics don't look so good now.
